Chapter 37 (2/2)
“Have you met his family yet?” Once a relationship grew deep enough, the next step was inevitable if the two people were right for each other.
“My parents are gone too, same as mine,” Mu Wan said, opening a peach-flavored sparkling water.
“You two really are made for each other,” Lin Wei said teasingly, then asked, “So he doesn’t have any other relatives?”
“He does,” Mu Wan said, searching through her memory. “Once, we didn’t have dinner together because he said he was having dinner with family.”
“That’s good.” Lin Wei nodded. Compared to Mu Wan’s own mess of relatives, a few decent connections on his side were better than none.
“Has he introduced you to them?” Lin Wei asked, then clarified, “Does he plan to?”
The topic suddenly became much more serious. Mu Wan, however, took it lightly.
“We’ve only been together a few days. If he wants me to meet them, he’ll take me when the time comes.”
Mu Wan was easygoing by nature. Even her relationship with Liu Qianxiu followed that rhythm. Bit by bit, step by step, they would simply come to know one another.
“Then when you do meet them, you have to tell me,” Lin Wei said. “I really want to know what a Taoist’s relatives are like. Are they all as cold and detached as he is?”
At five in the afternoon, slanting sunlight cut through the office window. Mei Yaozhi sat in front of Liu Qianxiu’s desk, squinting as the sun hit his face.
Even when squinting, his eyes still looked larger than other people’s, leaving him with a trace of youthful brightness.
“So what are you going to do this time? Just let him keep making a mess of things?” Mei Yaozhi had heard about the situation at one of the idle-rich young masters’ gatherings. He had made some inquiries and came to tell Liu Qianxiu about it.
“I’m going back to Austria next week,” Liu Qianxiu replied.
Even after hearing of such trouble, Liu Qianxiu remained as calm as still water. It was obvious he already had a plan, so Mei Yaozhi did not press. Instead, he glanced around the office, remembered something, and asked, “Do you have a girlfriend now?”
The moment the question fell, Liu Qianxiu, who had been reading, lifted his eyes.
Mei Yaozhi had only heard a mention of it from Huai Jing while they were playing basketball. He had not expected it to be true. His eyes widened.
“So it is true?”
“It is.” Liu Qianxiu nodded. With that prompt, he seemed to remember something else. Glancing at the time, Mu Wan would be coming to pick him up soon.
“Then when are you bringing her to meet Grandma?” Mei Yaozhi asked eagerly.
“She doesn’t know who I am yet,” Liu Qianxiu said.
“Oh, I get it.” Mei Yaozhi nodded in understanding. “You want to test her.”
Liu Qianxiu glanced at him. “No. She wants to keep me.”
Mei Yaozhi clearly did not understand. He froze. “…What?”
A faint curve touched Liu Qianxiu’s mouth. He gave Mei Yaozhi a calm look and did not bother explaining.
“It’s nothing,” he said. “Just a small pleasure of my own.”
