Incurable Chapter 62 Part 1

After staying in Finland for a week, the two of them flew to Tasmania, Australia, in the second week. As November arrived, the Southern Hemisphere was gradually entering summer, and the weather was at its most pleasant. Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu stayed in a seaside villa on the island. In such weather, sunbathing felt especially wonderful. Almost every day, Mu Wan would go out and bask in the sun for a while. Her skin tanned just a little, taking on a faint honeyed glow that made her look especially healthy.

And yet, even without sunscreen, Liu Qianxiu sat out in the sun with her every day and still remained cool and pale-skinned, looking like an immortal from some celestial palace, as if sunlight never touched him.

They had such a good time abroad that even after coming home, they still felt restless. After landing, Liu Qianxiu took Mu Wan to Xu Xingkong’s place to pick up the cats. On the drive back, Mu Wan looked at the sparkling sea along the coast and said to Liu Qianxiu,

“Actually, living by the sea would be pretty nice too.”

When the car stopped at a red light, Liu Qianxiu rested one hand on the steering wheel and turned to glance at her. Her complexion was just a little darker than before they went to Australia, as a layer of caramel melted over white chocolate, making her look especially sweet and tempting.

Looking past her toward the sea, he asked, “Do you want to live here?”

The moment he asked that, Mu Wan’s eyes widened slightly. No matter if they were in Finland or Tasmania, the Liu family had branch companies there, and the places they stayed had all been Liu family properties.

“You have a house here, too?” Mu Wan asked.

“No,” Liu Qianxiu replied.

Mu Wan’s widened eyes narrowed a little.

The red light turned green. Liu Qianxiu started the car and added, “We have a house here.”

Since they were husband and wife, their property was naturally shared. If it was his house, then it was also her house.

Mu Wan: “...”

Seeing that she only smiled without answering, Liu Qianxiu asked again, “Do you want to live here?”

Leaning back in her seat, Mu Wan thought for a while before saying, “It’s too far from the hospital. One is in the south district, the other in the north. By the time you get off work and come home, you won’t even have time to cook dinner for me.”

“Then we can come here on weekends,” Liu Qianxiu said. The villa in the south district was always kept clean, so they could move in whenever they wanted. They would just need the staff to buy groceries a day ahead.

Mu Wan listened to him making arrangements, but did not answer right away. At the next red light, Liu Qianxiu stopped again and turned to glance at her. She was looking straight ahead, seeming to be thinking about something.

“Is that not okay?” Liu Qianxiu asked, lifting a hand to touch her cheek.

His palm settled against her face, and Mu Wan made a soft sound of acknowledgment, snapping back to herself. She turned to look at him, her eyes dark and beautiful, then shook her head and smiled. “I like it. Of course, I like it.”

Being able to live anywhere she wanted, without any worries, was really an easy, comfortable life.

“Then what were you thinking about?” Before pulling his hand away, Liu Qianxiu tucked her hair behind her ear and gently pinched her earlobe.

The spot behind Mu Wan’s ear was very sensitive. When he pinched it, she let out a soft cry and pulled her neck back, her cheeks turning red. Her face warmed, and she tilted her head, rubbing against his hand like a small puppy.

“I was just thinking that I used to have no ambition,” Mu Wan said.

Starting the car again, Liu Qianxiu curved his lips faintly. “How so?”

Thinking back over her past, Mu Wan laughed too. Leaning slightly toward him, she said, “Ever since I graduated from high school and entered film school, my life goal has been just to become a minor actress. Take home film pay that was a little more than an ordinary salary, buy a house that felt comfortable to live in, buy a car that felt comfortable to drive, and then live the rest of my life in comfort.”

When she reached this point, she paused. Liu Qianxiu pressed his lips together slightly, eyes forward, and asked in a light voice, “And now? Is it uncomfortable?”

“Of course it’s comfortable!” Mu Wan said with a sigh. “We have a private plane when we travel, so we can go anywhere. Even in Xia City, we have houses in every district—east, west, south, and north—and staff takes care of them all. We can live wherever we want.”

“It’s exactly because it’s too comfortable that I feel like I have no ambition,” she lamented. “Having money is really wonderful. No wonder everyone chases fame and profit.”

After saying that, she quickly corrected herself, as if reminding herself of her values. “But it’s still better to earn money on your own. Like me...”

Liu Qianxiu looked at her.

Mu Wan pointed at herself and smiled, her eyes crinkling. “I also used my own ability to find such a rich husband.”

She burst out laughing before she could finish. Liu Qianxiu just watched her with a faint smile and replied softly, “Mm.”

When they got back to Nanfeng Apartment, everything looked just as it had before—clean and tidy. It was already evening. Liu Qianxiu went to the kitchen to make dinner, while Mu Wan took the cat carrier to the cat room.

She first filled the cat bowls with fresh food and water, then let the three little ones and Zhou Yi out. Since she had been away for quite some time, the three little cats rushed into her arms the moment they were released, meowing as they threw themselves at her.

Mu Wan laughed as the cats’ fur tickled her, petting each one in turn. Zhou Yi stood off to the side, still a bit shy, but Mu Wan picked him up and gave him a big cuddle, too.

Just as she was happily petting them, a phone rang in the living room. Mu Wan got up from the cat room and went to get her phone. The screen flashed with the name Lin Wei.

After coming back, Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu went straight to pick up the cats and hadn’t told Lin Wei yet. Her schedule for the next few months was light, and Liu Qianxiu could also take another two weeks off. They had actually come back early to make it in time for Lin Wei’s wedding.

Lin Wei’s wedding was set for early November—next Monday, in fact. That meant there were only four days left, and it should have been the busiest time.

Although Lin Wei was from Jing City, she had attended high school in Xia City and had been Mu Wan’s classmate there. While Mu Wan was still in Tasmania, Lin Wei had already messaged her about the invitation list for the high school classmates.

Lin Wei had always been popular and still kept in touch with many old classmates. She had even joked that the wedding could be a class reunion.

Thinking of that, Mu Wan smiled and answered the call. “Hello, Lin Wei.”

“Are you back in the country?” Lin Wei’s voice carried almost no rise or fall.

After so many years as friends, Mu Wan could tell right away that something was wrong. Her smile disappeared. She straightened up, frowned, and asked, “What happened to you?”

The moment the words left her mouth, Lin Wei burst into tears on the other end.

“I’m not doing very well, Wanwan. Come stay with me for a while.”

Lin Wei cried so hard that Mu Wan started to panic, too. She did her best to comfort her, and after a while, Lin Wei finally stopped sobbing. Still flustered, Mu Wan had just calmed her down and hung up when Liu Qianxiu came out of the kitchen and asked,

“What happened?”

“I need to go check on Lin Wei,” Mu Wan said, turning to him.

Worry filled her eyes. Liu Qianxiu didn’t ask any more questions. He just said, “I’ll drive you there.”

Incurable Chapter 61 Part 2

The day started off sweetly. Mu Wan hugged his waist from behind as Liu Qianxiu walked ahead. She rubbed her cheek against his back, softly whispering sweet nothings to him. His dark eyes, full of tenderness, caught the snowy light as he walked.

The villa’s kitchen looked a lot like the one in Liu Qianxiu’s Southwind apartment. It had an island in the center and a dining table. Mu Wan sat on a high stool, facing the window with the red heart.

She ate her food and laughed when she saw the heart. Liu Qianxiu handed her freshly warm glass of milk. Mu Wan took it and drank most of it with a smile. When she finished, she turned to him and asked, “Shall we go into town later?”

Since they were traveling, staying inside the villa didn’t sound fun. After seeing the snow, it seemed like a good idea to walk around town and experience the local culture.

“Sure,” Liu Qianxiu agreed.

The manager of Liu Qianxiu’s Finnish branch was quite considerate. While Liu Qianxiu and Mu Wan enjoyed their private time in the villa, he arranged for the driver and housekeeper to stay in the nearby town, just in case they were needed.

After contacting the driver, Liu Qianxiu was informed that the car would arrive in about twenty minutes. Finland’s snow season was long, and the locals had their ways of dealing with it. The car’s tires were fitted with chains to prevent slipping.

Even with the snow falling, it was still safe to drive.

The driver was Chinese but had lived in Finland for a long time and knew the area well. Finland is the home of Santa Claus, and even in small towns like this one, there were plenty of Christmas-themed shops and even a theme park with reindeer.

Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu got out of the car and strolled around the park. Mu Wan even took a photo with a reindeer. She had never celebrated Christmas before and didn’t care much for it initially, but now, immersed in the festive atmosphere, she found it charming.

After their walk in the park, Liu Qianxiu took Mu Wan to a small restaurant nearby.

This was likely the biggest restaurant in town. Although it wasn’t too crowded, it was exceptionally quiet. Finnish people generally didn’t enjoy much conversation, so everyone enjoyed their meals in a peaceful atmosphere.

People in Finland spoke both Finnish and Swedish. A waitress wearing traditional Finnish attire came over, and Mu Wan was about to ask if she spoke English, but Liu Qianxiu had already started conversing with her in Finnish.

“What would you like to eat?” Liu Qianxiu asked. He handed the menu to the waitress after signaling her to wait.

Mu Wan was surprised. “You order for me. I’m not picky.”

She had never eaten Finnish food before, so she didn’t know what to choose. Seeing how familiar Liu Qianxiu was with the situation, she trusted him to make the choice. She watched as he gave the waitress a brief response, and she nodded before leaving.

She had never eaten Finnish food before, so she didn’t know what to choose. Since Liu Qianxiu seemed comfortable with the situation, she let him decide. She watched as he spoke briefly to the waitress, who nodded and left.

Liu Qianxiu folded the menu and placed it aside. He looked up and saw Mu Wan gazing at him, her chin resting on her hands, her eyes blinking as she watched him. He took a sip of lemonade and asked, “What’s on your mind?”

“Can you speak Finnish?” Mu Wan was surprised. When they were in Austria, he spoke German, and now in Finland, he was speaking Finnish as well. Did the Liu family have branches in every country, and did he learned their languages?

“A little,” Liu Qianxiu replied.

His answer, “a little,” reminded her of a movie character who always said he “knew a bit” about everything. Even though he said it was just a little, it made her feel at ease.

Mu Wan’s heart melted again because of Liu Qianxiu.

She looked at him, and their eyes met. She smiled, her eyes shining as if they were sharing a secret.

“I have great taste,” Mu Wan said.

He didn’t understand her words right away, but when he looked at her, he could sense the meaning. He smiled faintly and reached out to pat her head. She let out a small “ah” as she smiled.

As she smiled, she felt a tug on her sleeve. Mu Wan looked down and saw a little boy, about three or four years old.

The little boy was white, with fair skin, round cheeks, long black lashes, and a pair of blue eyes like the starry sky.

It was the first time Mu Wan had seen such a beautiful little boy.

When she looked at him, the boy seemed to realize he had mistaken her for someone else. His parents hurried over and called his name.

Mu Wan didn’t understand Finnish, but the boy’s parents apologized for bothering her. She waved it off, and Liu Qianxiu translated as the parents apologized again before leaving.

“What’s his name?” Mu Wan asked, the boy’s name still echoing in her mind.

Liu Qianxiu repeated it. Mu Wan tried to say it, but couldn’t keep up. She gave up and asked, “What’s it called in Chinese?”

“Star Light,” Liu Qianxiu said. “In the north part of town, you can see auroras, and even when there aren’t any, the starlight is beautiful.”

“Is it because the starlight is so beautiful here that they named him that?” Mu Wan said, looking back at the little boy, the memory of his beautiful blue eyes lingered in her mind.

“Yes,” Liu Qianxiu answered.

“When we name our children, I want the name to have Chinese cultural meaning,” Mu Wan said suddenly, looking at Liu Qianxiu with hope. “You read a lot, so you should name our child.”

After she spoke, Mu Wan frowned. She realized she might be asking too much and hadn’t really thought it through.

“Let’s think about it when we’re home. Or else…”

“‘Lai Zhi,’” Liu Qianxiu said.

He interrupted her. She looked at him, her eyelashes fluttering. “That’s a boy’s name, isn’t it? What if it’s a girl?”

“An Zhi,” Liu Qianxiu said.

Incurable Chapter 61 Part 1

Snow had fallen all night, quiet and gentle. After a long trip and a joyful evening, Mu Wan woke up feeling groggy. She curled up under the soft down blanket and opened her eyes to a world covered in white.

Liu Qianxiu was already awake. The bedroom was spacious, with a fireplace burning brightly. European-style sofas and a coffee table sat nearby, and a patterned carpet covered the floor.

He wasn’t on the sofa. Instead, he sat by the floor-to-ceiling windows, where the carpet stretched out beneath a low table and two cushions. Wearing a green robe, Liu Qianxiu meditated in the morning light.

Outside, thick snow blanketed the mountains and forests, with bits of green showing through. He sat quietly, eyes half-closed and brows relaxed, like a peaceful painting.

Liu Qianxiu sat below her line of sight. Mu Wan shifted under the white down blanket to see him better. As she moved, his long lashes fluttered, and he opened his clear, dark eyes, glancing at the bed. Their eyes met, and he smiled.

“You’re awake?” Liu Qianxiu uncrossed his legs and stood up. He was tall and straight, rising with an easy, graceful posture.

“Mm.” Mu Wan watched him come closer, lying back and looking up at him. “The snow is really coming down.”

Liu Qianxiu got onto the bed and, with the blanket between them, pulled her into his arms and kissed her hair. They pressed close together, watching the snow outside.

The room was filled with the scent of incense, but it was nowhere near as pleasant as Liu Qianxiu’s scent. He carried the fresh fragrance of masculinity, mixed with sandalwood, evoking both desire and coldness.

They had nothing urgent to do. Since they woke up early and weren’t hungry, they stayed in bed watching the snow. Liu Qianxiu enjoyed the quiet, but Mu Wan grew restless. She turned her head, and when he looked at her, she gave him a quick kiss before turning away.

She couldn’t help but giggle for a moment, but when Liu Qianxiu realized what had happened, he held her shoulders, not letting her turn away. Instead, he slightly tilted his head, his breath close to her ear. Mu Wan’s heart skipped a beat when he nipped at her earlobe.

The action was neither too hard nor too soft, his teeth grazing her sensitive skin, sending a tingle through her. She let out a small gasp and quickly tried to escape. But before she could move far, her body was held in place by him, and she laughed out loud. Liu Qianxiu kissed the back of her neck.

His warm lips pressed softly against her, and Mu Wan’s eyes shifted as a soft moan escaped her.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

Liu Qianxiu turned her to face him, their eyes meeting. His clear eyes softened as he spoke softly, “You were the one who provoked me first.”

Mu Wan caught the playful accusation and smiled. She turned to look at him. Liu Qianxiu was so handsome, she couldn’t help wanting to tease him.

“I was just teasing you. Is that not allowed?”

He listened quietly to her unreasonable explanation. Before she could finish speaking, he cupped her face with both hands and kissed her lips gently. The soft kiss made the remaining words of hers turn into whispers.

His dark eyes became unfocused for a moment, and Mu Wan couldn’t resist his sudden approach. Each time he did this, it felt like she was a torch drenched in honey and then set ablaze by him.

She laughed, burying her face in his chest, murmuring, “Liu Qianxiu, I’m hungry.”

They got up. Liu Qianxiu went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, and Mu Wan, feeling a little bored after inspecting the villa, put on a down jacket and scarf and stepped outside.

The snow had stopped, and the sun had even come out. The brilliant white snow reflected the sunlight, illuminating everything.

Mu Wan stepped off the stairs, her snow boots sinking into the thick snow, which covered her heels. The snow was about four or five centimeters deep—just the right amount to step on comfortably.

The front of the villa had no traces of anyone else, so the snow was perfectly smooth. Mu Wan put her hands behind her back and left a trail of footprints as she moved like a little penguin.

She walked all the way around the villa, as if drawing a circle around it. After completing the circle, she felt warm and walked up to the kitchen window, and saw Liu Qianxiu flipping eggs inside.

He wore a dark blue sweater, his tall, long-limbed figure as he calmly turned the eggs over. Mu Wan stood by the window, tapping the glass. He looked up, and as soon as he saw her, his dark eyes were filled with warmth.

Mu Wan smiled at him, seeing her reflection in the glass. She paused, then took off her scarf, showing her red nose and lips.

She put her hands on the glass and blew on the window. When the white mist appeared, she quickly drew a heart with her finger.

It was a game she used to play with her mother as a child. Every time it snowed in winter, before going to school, she would knock on the window and leave her mother a heart.

Dressed in a dark down jacket, her black, fine curls hidden beneath a knit hat, her lips were red, and her nose slightly pink. She leaned against the glass like a little hamster, smiling from the heart.

But soon, the cold cleared the mist from the glass, and the heart faded. Mu Wan frowned and quickly blew on the glass again. After drawing another heart, she looked inside, but Liu Qianxiu was gone.

“Eh?” Mu Wan was surprised and leaned closer, looking for him in the glass. Before she could spot him, she heard the door open behind her. Liu Qianxiu came outside.

He held a small bucket and a paintbrush, and Mu Wan wondered what he was carrying. She tilted her head at him. Before she could say anything, Liu Qianxiu set the items on the table and gently pulled her scarf back over her face.

“Cold?” he asked. Mu Wan’s face was red from the cold after she had blown on the glass.

The scarf wrapped around her cheeks, and Mu Wan’s warm breath soon heated her face. She blinked and noticed the frost on her long lashes. She shook her head, pointing at the glass. “I drew you a heart, but it disappeared.”

Liu Qianxiu looked in the direction she was pointing. On the clean glass, the heart had faded into faint marks. He lowered his gaze and squatted down, opening the small bucket in his hand.

Mu Wan’s gaze was blocked as she crouched down with him. The bucket opened, and inside was red paint. She watched as Liu Qianxiu dipped the brush into the paint, and then he began to trace the faint heart on the glass.

He recreated the heart with red paint, his brush gently sweeping across the surface, and Mu Wan’s reflection was once again enclosed in the red heart on the glass.

She smiled at the red heart and looked back at Liu Qianxiu. He set the brush aside, picked up the bucket, took her hand, and walked toward the room. “It won’t disappear now.”

Incurable Chapter 60 Part 2

Finland was cold, as if they had crossed from autumn straight into winter. Mu Wan wore a thick coat, and Liu Qianxiu wrapped her in a soft, cashmere scarf.

Once they stepped off the plane, staff from the Liu family’s Finnish branch were already there to greet them. They went to a property in northern Finland, a villa nestled in the woods.

The farther north they went, the colder it became. However, as the car drove along the wide roads, the European atmosphere grew denser, yet there was still no sign of snow.

The car’s heating was on, and Mu Wan removed her scarf, revealing her pale face. Since they were in Finland, Liu Qianxiu took the opportunity to review some documents. Noticing her movements, he looked up. Her eyes were shiny with a bit of moisture, and she was looking at him.

“No snow yet?” Mu Wan asked.

The driver, a member of the Liu family, sat in the front passenger seat, while the general manager of the Finnish branch sat beside him. They knew that the head of the Liu family had married recently, and everyone in the family knew that Liu Qianxiu had brought a beautiful woman with him. Without a doubt, she was the Liu family’s new mistress.

The guide, not wanting to seem inattentive, glanced at Liu Qianxiu and, after confirming he could speak, turned to Mu Wan and said with a smile, “There’s a five-month snow season in northern Finland, but it doesn’t snow much in late October. However, I’ve checked, and it should snow in the next couple of days.”

“Oh.” Mu Wan responded, feeling a little disappointed. Although she couldn’t see the snow just yet, she found it beautiful to wait for it. With such cold temperatures, the snow, when it finally came, should be quite heavy.

She looked forward to it eagerly.

The Liu family’s villa in Finland was nestled halfway up a mountain, surrounded by trees. It wasn’t too remote, and a twenty-minute drive would bring them to a small, bustling town. Despite its size, the town felt quiet. The Finnish people weren’t fond of excessive chatter, so the town was large but somewhat subdued.

The villa was a cozy two-story building painted red and white, already cleaned in anticipation of their arrival. Though not large, its fireplace blazed cheerfully. As Mu Wan stepped inside, the warmth flushed her cheeks.

Their room was on the second floor, kept toasty by the heater. Mu Wan sprawled across the bed, rolling about with contentment.

Liu Qianxiu and the general manager of the Finnish branch were downstairs handling some documents. After the handover, the manager left. Liu Qianxiu came upstairs, and Mu Wan, flipping over, knelt on the bed, smiling as she spread her arms wide.

He embraced her, and Mu Wan, already warmed up, had shed her coat and was now in a fitted sweater and long pants. Her soft, slender body pressed against his as he held her close.

Though they couldn’t see the snow yet, she was still happy. This was what a honeymoon was supposed to be—being with the person you loved, enjoying different views, and relaxing together.

“Are you hungry?” Liu Qianxiu kissed her.

Afternoon had faded into evening, and hunger crept in. Mu Wan slipped from his embrace and asked, “Is there food here?”

“No, the ingredients are all here, but we’ll have to cook ourselves,” Liu Qianxiu replied, holding her.

“Let’s cook then!” Mu Wan said excitedly.

He smiled and looked down at her. “We?”

“I’ll help you wash the vegetables,” Mu Wan said confidently.

“The water is cold,” Liu Qianxiu leaned down and kissed her forehead, saying, “You stay here and watch.”

And so, Mu Wan sat there and watched Liu Qianxiu cook their dinner. She didn’t have picky tastes, so he made a simple Western-style meal. After dinner, Liu Qianxiu loaded the dirty dishes into the dishwasher.

Mu Wan stood in front of him, watching his efficient movements, and asked, “The dishwasher is so convenient. Why didn’t we have one in the Southwind apartment?”

Liu Qianxiu glanced at her, remembering the porcelain dishes at Southwind, which could never go into a dishwasher. He thought of the bowl she had broken during their last visit.

His lips curved slightly as he replied, “I forgot, and we never installed one after that.”

Mu Wan took his answer without question and didn’t probe further. The night in Finland was long, with short days. It had already become completely dark. She turned to look outside. The sky was pitch black, but the stars were stunning.

“It feels like a fairytale,” Mu Wan said, turning to Liu Qianxiu with a bright smile.

The firelight danced in her eyes, making them shine. Liu Qianxiu squeezed her hand and suggested, “Let’s go outside and see.”

“Sure!” Mu Wan answered excitedly.

Though the view was beautiful, the temperature was freezing. Mu Wan had already felt the cold when they got out of the car. Before heading outside, she wrapped herself in a down jacket, and Liu Qianxiu added a scarf and gloves.

“I can put my hands in my pockets,” Mu Wan said, holding up her gloved hands, talking to him through her scarf.

With only her eyes visible, glistening like a little puppy, Liu Qianxiu gave her a hat, pressing down her fluffy hair. “This will keep you warmer.”

It was very cold outside, but there was no wind. After Mu Wan finished dressing, she ran outside ahead of him. Liu Qianxiu was still getting ready. She ran a few laps around the front of the villa, breathing in the warm air trapped inside her scarf.

The place felt so free. The whole world seemed open and without restraint. Mu Wan couldn’t resist running a few laps. After a while, Liu Qianxiu still hadn’t come outside. Mu Wan, confused, walked toward the door.

Flushed from running, she tugged down her scarf and let out a warm breath.

“Liu Qianxiu.” Mu Wan called out.

Liu Qianxiu finally emerged, tall and slender in his gray down jacket and scarf. When he saw her, she pointed upward and said, “I was wrong. There aren’t any stars.”

From inside, the stars must have been just firelight reflected on the glass. Mu Wan’s voice carried a hint of regret.

“Mm.” Liu Qianxiu replied softly. He adjusted her scarf to shield her cheeks, then took her hand and led her to the bench outside the villa.

Mu Wan sat down, and Liu Qianxiu pulled something out of his pocket. She looked carefully as he lit a match. The light from the flame illuminated his face, and in Mu Wan’s surprise, he lit a firework.

In the silent woods, with the cold air surrounding them, a firework blazed from Liu Qianxiu’s hand. His features were illuminated by the orange glow, and Mu Wan’s heart stirred.

He handed her the firework, saying, “A star for you.”

Liu Qianxiu was perfect for such an environment. His temperament and looks were incredibly calm. Yet, when it came to her, she could always feel the heat emanating from him.

Mu Wan grinned, took the firework, and kicked her legs in delight. It spun in her hand like a fiery ring, and when she peered through it at the night sky, it truly resembled the stars.

“The flowers you’ve given me are all so special,” Mu Wan said, watching the fireworks crackle. She leaned her head against his shoulder and looked up at him, her eyes curved into a smile.

“The first flowers you gave me were cotton candy, so sweet.”

“The flowers you gave me this time are fireworks, so beautiful.”

“Liu Qianxiu, I love you so much.”

Mu Wan never hesitated to confess her feelings. Her voice was gentle, and when the firework faded, she nestled into his arms. Even bundled in layers, he held her close, answering in a soft murmur.

“I love you too.”

Mu Wan raised her hand, awkwardly pulling off her scarf, and kissed his eyes.

Liu Qianxiu gathered her up and led her back inside. The room’s warmth wrapped around them as their clothes slipped away, and by the time they reached the bed, Mu Wan was nearly bare.

Desire thickened the air, their breaths entwined. Mu Wan melted into the soft bed, answering his gentle yet fervent kisses. Her mind grew hazy, and as his lips brushed her earlobe, her gaze drifted to the window.

“It’s snowing,” Mu Wan whispered, her voice rough with emotion as she clung to his face.

Before Liu Qianxiu could respond, she slipped from the bed, pulled on her slippers, and hurried to the window. Beyond the glass, thick snowflakes drifted down.

Liu Qianxiu lingered, half-kneeling on the bed, emotions swirling in his eyes. After a moment’s pause, he rose and joined her at the window.

“I want to make a wish,” Mu Wan said, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at the falling snow.

“What are you wishing for?” Liu Qianxiu embraced her from behind.

Mu Wan hadn’t planned her wish. She glanced at the swirling snow and said softly, “I wish for us to always be happy.”

She pressed softly against the window, slender fingers tracing patterns on the glass. The delicate lines of her back stood out, graceful as butterfly wings.

Liu Qianxiu kissed the back of her neck, and Mu Wan’s body trembled. She buried her face in his hair, her lips red, her eyes bright.

“I want happiness now,” Mu Wan murmured, turning to the snow, cheeks aglow. “The happiness only you can give me.”

Liu Qianxiu lowered his gaze, his throat moving slightly.

After a while, he pressed his body against hers.

Incurable Chapter 60 Part 1

The wedding had kept them busy all day, and it wasn’t until the evening reception ended that Mu Wan finally took off her dress. She lay on the bed, the wedding room decorated in bright red, and everything before her was bathed in a crimson hue. Mu Wan tilted her head and glanced at Liu Qianxiu beside her.

He lay next to her. After the noise of the day, the room finally felt quiet. His eyes were half-closed, his long lashes curled, the corners of his eyes slightly lifted, his high nose bridge, thin, red lips, and deep, alluring cheekbones made him look even more captivating. His neck was slightly raised, his Adam’s apple pronounced at the center, giving him an alluring air under the light.

Mu Wan shifted slightly, trying to get a better look at him. As soon as she moved, his eyelashes fluttered, and his eyes opened. His dark pupils reflected the light, like a crescent moon in a cold pond. He turned toward her, their gazes meeting, and Mu Wan smiled at him.

Liu Qianxiu raised his hand, and like a little kitten, Mu Wan placed her cheek in his palm. Her face was warm, still tinged with a bit of color even after removing her makeup. Her bright eyes were as clear as two pieces of obsidian.

“Are you tired?” he turned to her, pulling her into his arms. She, in turn, curled up slightly, nestling into his embrace. The vast wedding room, now quiet, was filled with the sweetness of their closeness.

“Mm.” Mu Wan rested her head on his chest, her voice small, almost whiny.

He curled his lips slightly, his hand already gently massaging her body. The pressure and speed were just right, and Mu Wan, whose body had been tense all day, gradually relaxed.

Getting married was exhausting.

They were relatively lucky—Liu Qianxiu didn’t enjoy crowds, and she didn’t like complicated processes, so they had simplified much of the ceremony. Even so, she was still tired.

Her body gradually relaxed, and having just showered, she wore a light sleepwear. Softly, she nestled into Liu Qianxiu’s arms and said, “We should go out and relax.”

“Have you decided where to go?” Mu Wan had mentioned it yesterday, and he had remembered.

She shook her small, furry head. Her mind was exhausted, and she didn’t want to think too much. She simply said, “Let’s go see the snow, or maybe go to the beach. From the coldest place to the hottest place.”

“Mm.” Liu Qianxiu responded, his mind already working. He softly answered, “Okay.”

After speaking, Mu Wan shifted, her gaze drifting before she looked up at him. She licked her lips, then reached out, fingers curling gently around the collar of his shirt.

“Liu Qianxiu,” she called softly, tilting her head so her hair tumbled to one side, half her face veiled in shadow.

Liu Qianxiu pushed her hair to the side, his dark eyes fixed on her, asking, “What’s wrong?”

Instead of answering, she smiled, her cheeks blooming with a deeper blush. Her teeth peeked out beneath her red lips as she whispered, “It’s our wedding night...”

They had only just become husband and wife, the festivities behind them. Now, as night fell, she simply wanted to remind him of this moment. Liu Qianxiu’s smile was gentle, full of understanding.

“Aren’t you tired?” He cupped her cheek, his eyes still holding a lingering smile. After all, when they first entered the room, she hadn’t even wanted to shower. She had just flopped onto the bed, ready to sleep, but he had made sure she washed up.

Mu Wan’s tongue traced the roof of her mouth, her arms wrapping around him, pulling herself closer. The soft scent of her body filled his embrace. She looked at him, blinking her clear, bright eyes.

“I’m tired,” she admitted softly, “but tradition must be honored.”

Since it was a traditional Chinese wedding, this last step had to be completed properly.

Her blush deepened, eyelids lowering as she added, “Besides, you’re the one who has to do all the work. As long as you don’t…”

Before she could finish, Liu Qianxiu leaned in, pinning her gently to the bed. His body hovered over hers, and as she gazed up at his striking features, her heart thundered in her chest.

“I’m not tired,” Liu Qianxiu whispered, pressing a slow, tender kiss to the corner of her lips. Her sleepiness vanished beneath the heat of his touch. His lips traced her jaw, drifting down to her earlobe, his voice rough with longing.

“And I won’t tire out my little bride.”

Her heart raced, her chin quivering as she clung to him, arms wrapped tightly around his neck.

Mu Wan longed to see snow, so Liu Qianxiu made it happen. Their private plane soared from China, and after ten hours in the sky, they touched down in northern Finland.

Incurable Chapter 59 Part 2

After seeing Lin Wei off, Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu went over the wedding procedures again. After dinner, they strolled through the back garden, holding hands. They had only walked a short while when Liu Qianxiu received a call.

The call was from Grandma Mei. He listened, squeezing Mu Wan’s fingers slightly in response. After hanging up, Liu Qianxiu said to Mu Wan, “Grandma wants me to take you there now.”

On the wedding day, Mu Wan was to depart from the Mei residence.

Their stroll was only halfway through, and the sky hadn’t even fully darkened yet. Mu Wan looked up at Liu Qianxiu, pressed her lips together, and said, “Alright.”

When Liu Qianxiu dropped Mu Wan off at the Mei residence, it was already eight o’clock. The car stopped on the parking lot lawn. Both stayed inside, with no intention of leaving.

The October night carried a damp chill. A night breeze blew in through the window, making Mu Wan squint slightly.

The Mei residence was already decorated for the wedding. Broad red traditional Chinese accents made the mansion look festive and solemn. Everything was arranged for the two of them. Inside, lights flickered warmly, and everyone was joyful.

But the two people it was meant for hadn’t joined in that happiness. They sat in the car, its interior softly lit and quiet. Only the sound of their breathing could be heard.

Mu Wan leaned back in her seat. In this quiet moment, her heart grew lighter and at ease, as if a weight had been lifted.

She turned her head, wanting to look at Liu Qianxiu. Liu Qianxiu was also looking at her. Their gazes met, and a moment of silence fell.

Shadows fell across Liu Qianxiu’s face, making his features look sharper. He watched her quietly, his lips pressed in a small frown.

The quiet parking lot held only the occasional chirping of insects in the grass. Mu Wan broke the silence, tilting her head as she asked Liu Qianxiu, “How many days of wedding leave do you have?”

She wore a coat, her hair falling loosely over her shoulders. She tilted her head, her eyes bright as she looked at him. Liu Qianxiu felt a flutter in his heart, and the darkness in his eyes softened.

“Half a month. Where do you want to go?”

Hearing his question, she smiled. Her lips curved upward, the corners of her eyes crinkling. She sat down in the passenger seat.

“How did you know I wanted to go out?” she asked.

After asking, she lowered her gaze and smiled to herself, filled with happiness.

“Well, you do know everything I want to do.”

Her face radiated a bright smile as she rose to leave. Her fingers touched the door handle. She opened it and said, “Let me think about it. I’ll tell you when I decide.”

Mu Wan finished speaking and opened the door to get out. The man pulled her hand back just as she was about to leave the seat. The force wasn’t strong, but enough to make her sit back down. She turned to look at him. Liu Qianxiu stared at her, his eyes holding an emotion she couldn’t fathom.

Liu Qianxiu gazed at her brows and eyes, calling her name.

“Wan Wan.” His voice was low and slightly hoarse. “When we meet again tomorrow, you’ll be my bride.”

His words drifted on the night breeze, reaching her ears. Mu Wan looked at him, her heart like a barren grassland swept by spring winds, suddenly bursting with vitality.

Mu Wan’s eyes shimmered as she smiled, her gaze radiant. She reached back to grasp his hand, leaned forward, and kissed the corner of his lips. The warmth of their breath mingled. Her eyes met his, her voice soft and tender, thick with longing.

“Then come early to take your little bride home~.”

No sooner had the words left her lips than he swept her into his arms. She heard his heartbeat, and she heard his final word: “Yes.”

The Mei residence had already prepared a decorated room for her wedding. It was filled with her belongings, as if she had lived there since childhood. There were formal gowns, wedding dresses, and various red accents for the ceremony. Even the wallpaper had been replaced.

After Liu Qianxiu dropped her off, he stayed and sat with her for a while before leaving. Now the room felt empty, with only her inside. Mu Wan sat, gazing at the furnishings. Her calm heart grew tense under the solemnity of marriage.

Incense burned in the room. Mu Wan took deep breaths, trying to calm her nerves. When that failed, she decided to take a bath first, hoping to force herself to sleep.

Just as she closed her eyes, a knock sounded at the door. Mu Wan looked up and recognized Old Lady Mei’s voice.

“Wan Wan, are you asleep?”

The old lady spoke softly, as if afraid of waking her. Glancing at the clock, it was already ten o’clock, and the old lady was still awake. She hurried up and rushed to open the door.

Grandma Mei stood outside, looking at her with affection. Mu Wan rubbed her hair and called out, “Grandma.”

“Couldn’t sleep, could you?” Granny Mei smiled warmly, gently stroking her cheek.

Mu Wan smiled back, wrapping her arms around Granny Mei’s waist. She helped her into her room, chatting as they walked, “You know everything, Granny.”

“Of course I know. I was married once, too.” Grandma Mei followed her inside, closing the door behind them. Mu Wan went to her bedside, while Grandma Mei sat on the fabric sofa beside it. The light softly illuminated her silver-streaked hair, making her look like a kind grandmother from a fairy tale.

Grandma Mei’s presence settled the unease in her heart. Mu Wan smiled, her spirit calming.

“Lie down. I’ll stay with you. I’ll leave only after you’ve fallen asleep.” As she spoke, she lifted the edge of the quilt and patted the bed gently.

“It’s too late.” Her affection touched Muwan, but she feared the strain on her frail body. Just as she was about to refuse, Old Lady Mei gazed at her and spoke.

“Before Qianxiu’s mother married, I was the one who stayed with her until she fell asleep.”

The words stuck in her throat. Mu Wan gazed at the older woman’s white hair, her heart stirring. She slipped off her shoes, climbed into bed, and lay down. Once settled, she took the old lady’s hand. The hand remained warm and smooth. Mu Wan rested her face against it, gently rubbing it as if to soothe her.

Old Mrs. Mei was visibly moved. She looked at Mu Wan and asked, “Are you looking forward to it?”

“Yes,” Mu Wan answered honestly. “I’m also a little excited and nervous.”

“Qianxiu’s mother was the same before her wedding.” Liu Qianxiu’s mother had been her only daughter. She had sent her off to a grand wedding, yet who could have foreseen the outcome she ultimately faced?

The older woman showed little outward emotion, yet her eyes held a sea of complexity. She lowered her gaze, her fingers gently brushing Mu Wan’s hair as she said, “Wan Wan, your grandmother hopes you find happiness.”

Mu Wan thought of her mother. If she had passed away before her, would she have looked on like this now?

“Grandmother,” Mu Wan called softly.

“Hmm?” Grandma Mei’s voice carried a slight upward inflection.

“We will love each other, remain faithful, and live happily together for the rest of our lives,” Mu Wan declared solemnly. “I swear it.”

Grandma Mei gazed at her, a smile gradually blossoming across her face. She gently stroked her cheek and murmured, “I believe you. Now sleep.”

Mu Wan held her hand and gradually drifted off to sleep.

Mu Wan slept soundly through the night. She didn’t wake up in the morning; Mei’s mother roused her. Seeing her dazed as she sat up in bed, Mei’s mother smiled. “Wan Wan, do you know today is your wedding day?”

Mu Wan snapped back to awareness, glanced around, and called out, “Auntie.”

Aunt Mei smiled in response as the makeup team and wedding staff flooded in from outside. She rose from the bed, surrounded by people who helped her with her makeup and changed her clothes. After her makeup was complete, Mu Wan gazed at her reflection in the mirror before the red veil was finally placed over her head.

Once she was fully dressed and adorned, the relatives and friends had all arrived. Lin Wei gazed at her, her eyes reddening as she continued to praise her beauty. Amidst the surrounding clamor, all Mu Wan saw was the vast expanse of crimson from her veil. She straightened her posture, her heartbeat steady and even. Her consciousness felt slightly adrift, momentarily unable to distinguish whether the present scenario was a dream or reality.

Mu Wan felt as if a pair of hands had seized her heart. She instinctively clasped those hands in return.

His touch was cool and dry. His fingers were long and slender, as always, drawing Mu Wan’s hands together and enveloping them—as if cradling her entire being within his palms.

The world around them fell silent as his hands guided her to her feet. Through the veil, Mu Wan saw his deep crimson robe and caught the faint scent of sandalwood on his skin. His hand slipped beneath the veil, brushing her cheek. Her heart leapt as she heard his voice.

“I’ve come to take you.”

“My little bride.”

Mu Wan’s heart dropped heavily. Her “dream” had ended.

Incurable Chapter 59 Part 1

The two spent the afternoon idly, reeling in just three or five fish by the time they hauled in their nets. The smaller ones were released, while the larger ones were brought back to the Taoist temple. For dinner, Liu Qianxiu prepared fish soup.

In the days that followed, Mu Wan experienced what it was like to live freely, like a drifting cloud or a wild crane. Liu Qianxiu took her hiking through the mountains and forests, where they looked out over distant valleys and rivers and admired the bamboo groves and pine trees up close. When he meditated, she read quietly in her room. In the mornings, she brought a cushion and sat beside him as he practiced. On rainy autumn days, she stood nearby, holding an umbrella for him.

The view before the cliff was the most expansive, revealing mist-shrouded mountain ranges and the faint river winding through the gorge. The air was filled with the chirping of insects and pure, refreshing birdsong.

Time seemed to slow. The red sun rose over the horizon, coloring the dawn sky. As the mist faded, the morning sunlight felt cool.

During her days at the Taoist temple, Mu Wan felt her mind grow calm and clear, as if it had been washed clean. Sometimes she almost believed she had gone back in time and forgotten the world outside.

She started to see why Liu Qianxiu followed the path of Taoist cultivation. It wasn’t for immortality or enlightenment, but to stay away from the pull of fame and fortune. He wanted to keep his integrity, calm, and purity in a busy world. That was what his path truly meant.

Five or six days before the wedding, Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu descended the mountain with Xuan Qingzi and Qing Chan. As the car entered the highway, the dense human presence and the aura of the mundane world enveloped them, and everything came alive.

Life at Qingyuan Temple was not dull, and the world outside was not always ordinary either. How one saw the world depended on one’s own perspective.

Grandma Mei had always held Master Xuan Qingzi in high regard. After descending the mountain, Liu Qianxiu and his group first visited the Mei residence. Xuan Qingzi exchanged greetings and then headed back to the Liu residence because he didn’t like big crowds.

The Mei residence buzzed with cheerful activity. Even before entering, Mu Wan could sense the warmth of its inhabitants. Having not seen Grandma Mei for several days, Mu Wan missed her dearly. The living room radiated warmth. As soon as Xuan Qingzi entered, he exchanged greetings with Old Lady Mei. She nodded and made small talk with him, while Mu Wan was pulled over to sit beside her.

Old Lady Mei and Xuan Qingzi chatted casually. In this environment, Qing Chan became well-behaved. Mu Wan had him sit beside her, while Mei Yaozhi played with him nearby.

Liu Qianxiu hadn’t changed out of his Taoist robe. Mei Yaozhi glanced at him and asked Mu Wan, “You sure picked a clever spot for your pre-wedding trip. Aren’t you worried Qianxiu might not come back after visiting the Taoist temple?”

Liu Qianxiu looked up at him. Mu Wan replied, “Then I won’t come back either. Husband and wife should follow each other’s lead, right?”

Everyone laughed. Mei Yaozhi smiled brightly and said, “He hasn’t even changed out of his Taoist robe. I thought you’d dragged him back here by force.”

Mentioning the robe, Mei Yaozhi turned to Liu Qianxiu and said, “Your wedding attire has already arrived. When we head back later, bring it along to try on. If it doesn’t fit, we’ll need alterations.”

There were three sets of wedding attire in total, including one for Mu Wan. Hers was more intricate and had been finalized earlier. Liu Qianxiu’s had been completed and delivered to the Mei residence, but he only found time to try it on today.

After spending some time at the Mei residence, Liu Qianxiu and the others returned to the Liu mansion. After dinner, Xuan Qingzi and Qing Chan were shown to their quarters. Qing Chan, with his childlike spirit, wanted to play as soon as they reached the bottom of the mountain. He had planned to follow Mu Wan to the back garden to see the pond full of koi, but Xuan Qingzi called him back, and they returned for evening practice.

With the master present, Liu Qianxiu joined them for evening practice as well. Mu Wan, exhausted from a day of errands, returned to her room, took a bath, and went to sleep. When she awoke, the sky was already pitch black.

She hadn’t drawn the curtains before sleeping. The inky night sky was adorned with a crescent moon, its pure, cool light spilling across the windowsill. Mu Wan turned around. The wardrobe door was slightly ajar, a warm glow spilling out.

She rose from the bed and walked toward the closet. Before she could open the door, she heard rustling sounds inside. She pulled the door open and stepped in. Under the light, Liu Qianxiu stood there, holding a long, black, and crimson robe.

He still wore his blue Taoist robe, accentuating his tall, slender figure. His features softened in the light. He set the robe aside, came over, and gently touched her cheek.

“Did I wake you?”

“No.” Mu Wan rested her forehead against his chest. It wasn’t that she hadn’t woken up; she just wanted to be affectionate the moment she saw him. After leaning against him for a moment, she lifted her face and looked behind him. “Haven’t you started trying them on yet?”

Liu Qianxiu was trying on wedding attire here. He had three sets in total. Their wedding was Chinese-style, with robes meant to match her bright red bridal gown. The other two sets were Western-style suits.

Before he could answer, Mu Wan straightened up and reached to tug at his waistband.

She moved with just the right touch, not too strong or too soft. Liu Qianxiu leaned forward a little, and their bodies met. Liu Qianxiu glanced down at her, his eyes shifting. She looked up at him with a small, playful smile and spoke teasingly.

“Let me help you change.”

He stood upright as she undid his collar, her head slightly bowed in earnest study. Fine strands of hair framed his temples, concealing her delicate, pink ears and earlobes, which gradually flushed crimson.

Mu Wan wasn’t sure how to undo his Taoist robe and thought loosening the sash would do the trick. Her hands moved around his waist, feeling the shape of his body through the thin fabric. At last, she hugged him tightly, her fingers pressing into his lower back as she leaned into him. She smiled brightly, her voice gentle and sweet.

“How do I undo it?”

She pressed gently against his chest, moving with a quiet grace. Her fingers traced his waist as she tilted her head back, her smile bright and a little playful.

Being alone together in the quiet room made the air feel charged with emotion.

He looked down at her, his dark eyes calm but full of hidden feeling. Though his emotions ran deep, he appeared steady and quiet.

He captured her restless hand. Her frame was small and delicate, her slender fingers clenched into a fist, completely covered by his palm. Fresh from sleep, her body radiated warmth, still carrying the scent of sandalwood from the bed.

Liu Qianxiu gently released her arms wrapped around him. Mu Wan’s hands fell empty, and her body rose. She nestled against his chest, and he leaned down to kiss her, his voice low and husky.

“Come to bed. I’ll teach you.”

Mu Wan felt warmth in her chest, and a smile grew on her lips. Resting in his arms, she was gentle but playful. She wrapped her arms around his neck, tilted her head back, and softly bit his jaw.

He moved and gently laid her down on the bed. Moonlight shone on the sheets, lighting up his pale features. Mu Wan was caught up in his beauty and in the moment.

Before the wedding, Mu Wan had plenty of free time. Other than practicing the ceremony with Liu Qianxiu, she had little to do. Still, she was never bored. Being with him made her truly happy. The wedding itself felt like just a formality, since they already had their marriage certificate.

The day before the wedding, Lin Wei invited her over. They sat on the second floor of the attic, sipping plum tea while gazing at the scenery outside. The Liu residence was designed like a garden, with lush greenery outside the windows, flowers vying for attention, and a pond filled with koi.

Xuan Qingzi eventually called Qing Chan away from the fish he had been playing with. The two Taoist priests, one tall and one short, further enhanced the residence’s antique ambiance.

Lin Wei sat next to her, quietly admiring the attic’s design and decor. As an interior designer, she was used to studying every space she entered.

“This classical style really needs real antiques to feel grand,” Lin Wei said. As a high-end interior designer, she usually worked with wealthy or influential clients, but most of their decor was affordable modern replicas. Real antiques were hard to find and valuable.

“Why don’t you take a break?” Mu Wan withdrew her gaze from the window and poured Lin Wei a cup of plum tea with a smile.

Lin Wei hummed in response, turning her gaze toward Mu Wan.

“You’re getting married tomorrow? How does it feel?” Lin Wei asked.

Taking a sip of the plum tea, its tartness made Mu Wan’s brow furrow slightly. She picked out a piece of sugar, dropped it in, and held the teacup. “Nothing special.”

“You sure are cool about it,” Lin Wei teased.

Both women were pregnant and at about the same stage, their faces healthy and full. Pregnancy brought cravings, and Lin Wei, who usually avoided sour foods, had eaten dried fruits and plum tea that day—things she normally couldn’t handle.

Mu Wan smiled and countered, “What about you? How did your parents and Lu Feng’s parents get along when they met?”

“Them?” Lin Wei’s eyebrows shot up at the mention of the parents’ meeting. “They hit it off instantly. Both businesspeople share temperaments that mesh perfectly. Lu Feng is the only child, and his parents are eager for him to marry as soon as possible.

After taking a sip of her plum tea, Lin Wei added, “By the way, where are you planning to go for your honeymoon? Give me some ideas.”

The mention of honeymoons drew Mu Wan’s gaze away from the koi outside the window. She hadn’t really thought about it. Though she had more free time lately, she still didn’t know what to do with herself day after day.

After they got married, they could go out and enjoy themselves. Mu Wan still had some freedom while pregnant, but once the baby was born, she would have to care for the child and herself. She knew she wouldn’t be able to leave so easily then.

“I’ll ask Liu Qianxiu about it later,” Mu Wan said.

“Don’t you have anywhere you’d like to go?” Lin Wei asked.

Mu Wan shook her head. Resting her chin on her hand as she gazed out the window, she replied, “Anywhere is fine, as long as I’m with Liu Qianxiu.”

Lin Wei: “......”

She was about to get married herself, but still had to listen to Mu Wan’s sweet words.

Incurable Chapter 58 Part 2

The rain fell for half the day, dispersing the lingering mist. Mu Wan stayed in her room reading and napping, while Liu Qianxiu engaged in his spiritual practice. Around one o’clock in the afternoon, after she awoke from her nap, Liu Qianxiu pushed open the door and entered.

Liu Qianxiu had changed into a new set of Taoist robes. His posture was straight and tall, his aura pure and cool, giving him an ethereal, otherworldly air. Seeing him, she set down the book in her hands, opened her arms, and smiled.

Understanding her gesture, he walked over, lifted her off the bed, and kissed her lips.

“Get ready. We’re going fishing.”

The fishing spot was at the Qingyuan River behind the mountain. Mu Wan propped herself up, looked down at him, and asked, “Aren’t you going to meditate?”

“Mhm.” Liu Qianxiu placed her back on the bed and fetched her shoes.

“This doesn’t seem right,” Mu Wan murmured, gazing out the window at the silent main hall. “Weren’t you here for seclusion? What if Master disapproves when you leave?”

He sat on the bedside, listening to her chatter. Only after she finished did he ask, “Who said I came for seclusion?”

Mu Wan froze.

While she was lost in thought, Liu Qianxiu slipped her other shoe on. He leaned down, gently hooked her nose with his finger—an intimate, doting gesture.

“I came to play with you.”

His face was inches away, clear and handsome. A little flower bloomed in Mu Wan’s heart, its petals sweet and fragrant. She stood up, her excitement bubbling over. “Then let’s go.”

They grabbed their fishing gear and followed the back mountain path toward the Qingyuan River. The grass on either side of the trail was rain-soaked, leaving their legs damp with each step.

Mu Wan adored the back mountain for its vast bamboo groves—the leaves were a vibrant green, and the air carried the faint, refreshing scent of bamboo. She followed Liu Qianxiu, admiring his Taoist robe as it fluttered with each step. He exuded an aura of both chivalry and Taoist grace, utterly captivating.

Though they came to catch fish, it was really just an excuse to play. Mu Wan slipped off her shoes and let Liu Qianxiu lead her onto the boat. Once they reached the river’s center, Liu Qianxiu cast the net, and the two of them lay back on the boat.

After a half-day of rain, the sky had cleared. Beneath the blue heavens, large, fluffy white clouds drifted like tangled masses of cotton candy.

The fishing net descended into the river. The boat drifted motionless in the center of the calm, crystal-clear waters, like a painting.

Mu Wan felt completely at ease. Lying against Liu Qianxiu, she gazed at the blue sky and white clouds, breathing in the fresh air after the autumn rain. The river murmured, the small boat rocked gently. Time and the world seemed to stand still.

Resting her head on Liu Qianxiu’s chest, she watched him read a book. The pages carried the scent of incense from the main hall, fresh and natural. Mu Wan rolled over, and Liu Qianxiu looked up at her. Her eyes were fixed on the book cover—another ancient text, written in classical Chinese, with sparse lines of text. Within its pages lay profound, inexplicable wisdom.

“Did you bring your homework here?” Mu Wan asked with a smile.

He set the book aside, smiling as he gently pinched her earlobe. “It’s a habit.”

It truly was a habit. He was quiet most of the time, and when he was quiet, he read. The book lay to one side, pages fluttering in the breeze. Mu Wan scanned a few lines.

The characters were traditional Chinese. She could recognize about eighty to ninety percent of them, but the meaning within? She didn’t understand. In front of Liu Qianxiu and the others, she was practically illiterate.

“If you keep reading like this, how many books will it take?” Mu Wan mused. “Master Xuan Qingzi must have finished reading them all by now, right?”

“No,” Liu Qianxiu denied, his eyes veiled in mist. He tucked her jet-black hair behind her ear and said, “Each book offers different insights when read at different times. Daoist cultivation emphasizes enlightenment, not quantity. Master has pursued enlightenment for nearly eighty years, yet the books remain the same.”

Muwan didn’t fully grasp his explanation, but she caught the key point. Her eyes widened as she asked, “Master has pursued enlightenment for nearly eighty years... How old is he this year?”

“Eighty-two,” Liu Qianxiu replied.

In the entertainment industry, celebrities place utmost importance on maintaining their appearance, yet no one can defy the passage of time. Even those who seem to age slowly over decades cannot hide their signs of aging once they reach eighty.

Xuan Qingzi appeared only sixty, yet was actually eighty-two. What kind of immortal was this?

Mu Wan studied Liu Qianxiu’s features closely. He was six or seven years older than her, yet in reality, he looked much like men her own age.

Mu Wan raised her hand and brushed his cheek. “Will you stay this young forever?”

A soft sigh escaped his throat as Liu Qianxiu clasped her hand.

“My future is spent entirely with you.” He kissed her fingertips, a faint smile touching his lips. “See for yourself.”

His kisses made her fingers tingle, and his words stirred something deep within her. Mu Wan laughed, meeting his dark eyes. She shifted, wanting to climb up to his level. The moment she moved, he caught her waist and pulled her close.

His future was spent with her. How long would that future last?

Mu Wan cupped his cheeks with both hands, leaning down to kiss him. Their soft lips entwined, a gentle breeze unable to dispel their tenderness. She kissed him lightly, a soft laugh escaping her lips.

“Liu Qianxiu,” she murmured, her beautiful eyes narrowing slightly. “Do you have pre-wedding jitters? Is that why you brought me to this Taoist temple to meditate and clear my mind?”

His fingers tangled in her hair as he gazed directly into her eyes, his expression heavy with tenderness and adoration.

“Afraid of what?”

Afraid... She didn’t know what she was afraid of, either.

She licked her lips and asked, “Aren’t you afraid?”

Her voice was soft and sweet. Her hair fell over her ears, a slant of sunlight filtering through the dark strands beside her ear, illuminating her cheek with a soft, delicate glow.

“Mhm.” Liu Qianxiu nodded, his smile breaking through like sunlight piercing a valley.

“I fear you won’t marry me.”

Mu Wan rested her head against his chest. His words vibrated against her skin as she listened to his heartbeat, and she smiled.

Incurable Chapter 58 Part 1

Mu Wan returned to her room, where the light from the main hall shone through the window. The flickering lamplight cast elongated shadows on the square tiles outside the hall—three shadows, though she couldn’t tell which one belonged to Liu Qianxiu. She sat on the bed watching for a while, barely turning two pages of her book before drowsiness overtook her. She fell asleep clutching the book.

After an unknown period, Liu Qianxiu returned. The night air was chilly, and he carried a hint of that coolness with him, along with the rich scent of sandalwood incense from the main hall. Mu Wan inhaled the fragrance, and her body, warmed by sleep, rolled into his embrace.

The contact between their contrasting temperatures sent a shiver through both of them. Half-asleep, Mu Wan clung to him and murmured, “You’re back.”

“Mhm.” Liu Qianxiu raised his hand to touch her cheek, but hesitated, aware his fingers were too cold. He pulled the thin blanket over her instead. Lying on his side, he held her close in his arms.

Sandalwood had a calming effect. Mu Wan wanted to say more to Liu Qianxiu, but drowsiness overwhelmed her, and she eventually drifted off. They had all the time in the world; why rush to speak tonight?

Breathing in the faint, lingering scent of sandalwood, Mu Wan slept exceptionally soundly and comfortably. She went to bed early and woke early. Upon waking, she shifted slightly beneath the thin blanket. The bed retained some warmth, but he was no longer there.

Opening her eyes, Mu Wan surveyed her surroundings. Coming to her senses, she rose from the bed.

It was only 6:30 a.m. The sun rose early in the mountains, bringing light quickly, yet the air held a dampness that gathered into thick fog. Mist swirled and rose as Mu Wan stood outside the hall, gazing at the divine statue within the main sanctuary. She heard the sound of sweeping outside.

Mu Wan stepped outside. The fog was thick there, too. Looking up, she could only make out the peaks of the opposite mountain range. The air felt damp, as if rain were imminent.

“Sister, you’re awake?” The weather had turned cooler, and leaves were beginning to fall. Qing Chan wore a Taoist robe, her hair tied in a bun. At her feet, a small broom had already gathered a pile of fallen leaves. His small frame stood straight and tall as he held the broom and smiled at Mu Wan.

“You’re up so early?” Mu Wan approached and pinched his cheek. They were much closer now than before; Qingchan let her pinch him, his little face flushed rosy.

“We must rise at six for morning practice,” Qingchan replied. “Master has gone to the bamboo grove for his morning practice. Junior Brother is by the cliffside—I took you to see him last time.”

Muwan heard this and felt a strong urge to find Liu Qianxiu. But she remembered how warm his sleeping spot still felt when she rose—he must have left only recently.

“Are you going to find Junior Brother?” Qingchan asked, tilting his head when she fell silent.

“No,” Mu Wan smiled, tugging at his topknot. “Do you still have the broom? I’ll help you sweep the fallen leaves.”

Having company naturally pleased Qingchan. Though he’d been a Taoist novice at the temple since childhood, he still retained a childlike nature, unlike Liu Qianxiu and Xuan Qingzi, who were reserved and aloof.

But they’d only swept together for a short while when a light rain began to fall. Qingchan picked up the broom, frowned, and took Mu Wan’s hand. “Sister, I’ll go bring Master an umbrella. You go bring Junior Brother one.”

Having a reason to visit Liu Qianxiu, Mu Wan readily agreed. After she nodded, Qing Chan handed her an oil-paper umbrella. Holding it open, Mu Wan hurried along the path toward the cliff edge.

The rain fell neither too hard nor too soft, pattering rhythmically on the oil-paper umbrella. Drops pooled together, trickling down onto the wild grasses by the path. Mu Wan quickened her pace and soon reached the cliff’s edge.

Liu Qianxiu sat cross-legged in meditation at the cliff’s edge, his tall, lean silhouette facing away. His blue Taoist robe was already half-soaked.

“Liu Qianxiu,” Mu Wan called out.

Liu Qianxiu snapped back to awareness, turning his head. His eyes, once hazy like distant mountain mists, gradually sharpened as he looked at her. He rose from the cushion. Mu Wan stepped forward, extending her arm to steady him.

He was too tall, and Mu Wan struggled slightly to support him. Liu Qianxiu gripped her waist with one hand while the other grasped the umbrella handle, taking it from her.

Raindrops slid down the man’s face. His cold, pale skin made the droplets look icy. Mu Wan frowned deeply, wiping his face as she said, “Didn’t you know it was raining?”

Liu Qianxiu took her hand. Their palms met—his was dry and cool.

Liu Qianxiu looked up at the falling rain and said, “It’s getting heavier.”

“You didn’t know it was raining?” Mu Wan laughed incredulously, her hand still held in his. She tilted her head back to look at him. “Nothing in the outside world can shake your pure heart, right?”

A fine misty rain fell, shrouding the cliff walls and the pine and cypress trees on the mountain in a haze, like a fairyland—a gentle breeze swept by. Liu Qianxiu lowered his gaze slightly, meeting her eyes.

“Yes.” He lowered his head to kiss her lips softly, murmuring, “The only thing that can shake my heart is you.”

The fine rain seemed laced with honey, even the cool breeze carrying a sweetness. Mu Wan tilted her head back to look at him, her eyes crinkling with laughter. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him.

Even clad in his Taoist robes, he remained utterly captivating.

Incurable Chapter 57 Part 2

Incense burned throughout the Taoist temple, its sandalwood scent more potent than at home. Mu Wan’s breathing grew heavier. Liu Qianxiu glanced down at her. Once she seemed nearly asleep, he rose to leave.

The instant he stood up, Mu Wan’s fingers tightened around his hand.

The room was quiet, bathed in gentle sunlight. Mu Wan’s palm was warm, and though her fingers clutched his, she showed no sign of opening her eyes. He sat back down, propping his other arm beside her, and leaned down to kiss her forehead.

“Still awake?” his voice was soft.

Her eyes remained closed, offering no reply. “Where are you going?”

His lips touched her cheek, a fleeting, soothing kiss. Liu Qianxiu said, “I’m going to prepare dinner. You sleep first. I’ll wake you later.”

Mu Wan didn’t answer. She had already drifted off.

Mu Wan lay on her side, her thick, jet-black hair spilling around the pillow. Her small, palm-sized face was exceptionally fair, delicate brows still slightly furrowed as if she’d left words unsaid.

His eyes held an unwavering tenderness. Liu Qianxiu pressed a light kiss to her lips, released her hand, and rose to leave.

Mu Wan slept soundly and deeply. When she awoke, shadows had already settled over the room. She vaguely recalled that Liu Qianxiu had mentioned he would prepare dinner before she fell asleep. Judging by the time, it must be nearly dinner hour.

She rose from the bed, slipped on her shoes, and opened the door to step outside.

As the door opened, the calming, invigorating scent of sandalwood filled her nostrils. The sky was ablaze with crimson clouds, a beauty so pure and clear it lifted her spirits effortlessly.

The moment Mu Wan stepped outside, Qing Chan spotted her. He was still holding the toy she’d bought for him, trotting over with a cheerful call, “Sister~ You’re awake?”

The little Taoist disciple wore a Taoist robe and a topknot, looking exceptionally adorable as a miniature Taoist priest. Mu Wan reached out to pinch the topknot on his head and asked with a smile, “Where are your Junior Brother and Master?”

“Junior Brother is preparing dinner, and Master is in seclusion...” Qing Chan replied.

No sooner had he finished speaking than a voice called out, “Qing Chan.”

The voice carried a hint of age and ethereality. Mu Wan paused slightly, lifting her eyes to see Xuan Qingzi standing at the main hall’s entrance, clad in Taoist robes.

Xuan Qingzi appeared to be in his sixties. He wore his hair long, the black-and-white strands tied into a Taoist topknot. His dark-colored robe clung to his lean frame, his features sharp and austere.

Mu Wan regarded him, bowing politely and greeting, “Greetings, Master.”

Xuan Qingzi knew Liu Qianxiu and Mu Wan would come. Qingyuan Monastery was merely a place for him and Qing Chan to practice seclusion. He held no qualms about a woman visiting. He gave a slight nod in response.

Taoist priests often carried an aura of cool detachment, but Mu Wan didn’t feel coldly dismissed. Standing there, however, she found herself at a loss for words. Just as awkwardness threatened to settle in, Liu Qianxiu’s voice reached her.

“Master.”

Xuan Qingzi turned, meeting Liu Qianxiu’s gaze. His stern eyes softened with a hint of affection. Xuan Qingzi was an old friend of Liu Qianxiu’s grandfather, having known him since childhood and essentially watching him grow up. To Liu Qianxiu, Xuan Qingzi was also an elder.

After exchanging greetings, Liu Qianxiu introduced Mu Wan to Xuan Qingzi. Xuan Qingzi nodded in acknowledgment, and the group proceeded to the back courtyard for dinner.

After dinner, Xuan Qingzi and his disciple prepared for evening study. Normally, when the master was absent, Mu Wan could go and flirt with Liu Qianxiu. With Xuan Qingzi present, she dared not overstep her bounds.

“Go to your room and read,” Liu Qianxiu said, having brought her some books earlier to keep her occupied. “I’ll return as soon as possible.”

“Just focus on your evening practice,” Mu Wan replied with a smile. Ever since they’d met, she’d been constantly clinging to him, and he hadn’t been able to practice properly.

Now, with Xuan Qingzi present, she couldn’t very well let him return early.

Liu Qianxiu didn’t reply, merely ruffling her hair. Mu Wan, like a kitten being stroked, gazed at him with a smile and whispered, “I’ll head back first.”

“Wait.”

As Mu Wan rose to leave, Xuan Qingzi, seated beside the low table, suddenly called her back. Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu turned to look. Xuan Qingzi stood up from beside the table.

He walked to the bookcase beside the main hall and retrieved an object. It was a small square box, looking somewhat aged yet clean and tidy, exuding a simple, ancient charm.

He handed the box to Mu Wan.

“This is for you,” Xuan Qingzi stated.

Xuan Qingzi’s expression was always serene and stern. Seeing him offer the box, Mu Wan felt a flicker of surprise. However, since Liu Qianxiu regarded him as an elder, this gift could be considered a present from an elder to her.

Mu Wan accepted it without refusal.

Inside the box lay a jade pendant, its material smooth and lustrous, its age evident.

Mu Wan retired for the night, leaving only three people in the main hall. Xuan Qingzi, eyes closed in meditation, addressed Liu Qianxiu.

“When is the wedding?”

Liu Qianxiu gave a slight nod. “The eighth day of next month.”

“Mm.” Xuan Qingzi responded softly, acknowledging the information.

Qing Chan sat on Xuan Qingzi’s other side, his small hand propping his cheek. He glanced at his master, then at his junior disciple. After a moment, he asked, “Junior Brother, now that you have Sister in your heart, is there still room for the Practice?”

A child’s thoughts are always simple, believing the heart is unwavering—that having one thing leaves no space for another.

Xuan Qingzi slowly opened his eyes, gazing at his young disciple. His voice was deep and steady as he replied, “Qing Chan, the human heart is vast. It can hold both the Practice and people.”

Incurable Chapter 57 Part 1

On weekends, Liu Qianxiu doesn’t work. The Liu residence has been without its owner for a long time. After Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu stayed overnight, the house bustled with activity this morning.

When Liu Qianxiu isn’t working, Mu Wan also gives herself a weekend off. That morning, Liu Qianxiu went to his morning meditation. Only after he finished and returned to their room did Mu Wan finally roll over and wake up.

Morning thoughts were particularly delicate and sensitive. Entwined in each other’s arms, their affection and sweetness doubled compared to other times. Finally, Liu Qianxiu picked up Mu Wan. After putting on shoes and changing clothes, he led her by the hand to the dining room for breakfast.

The Liu residence was built in the style of an ancient garden estate. Aside from their own three-story detached pavilion, most structures were two- or single-story. Long corridors connected the buildings, lined with greenery or dotted with pavilions.

After last night’s engagement banquet, an autumn rain had fallen. The greenery within the estate glistened with freshness. Walking along the corridors, the scene carried a distinct air of classical elegance.

Areas with abundant greenery also had fresher air. After breakfast, Mu Wan let Liu Qianxiu lead her on a few laps around the grounds. The Liu residence was vast. It took over an hour to explore it all.

After their stroll, the designer delivered the wedding gowns, arriving just in time. Back at the pavilion, Mu Wan slipped inside to try them on, anticipation growing with every step.

There were multiple gowns—both Chinese and Western styles. Mu Wan tried them all before settling on a simple red bridal robe. Her striking, alluring beauty suited the vibrant crimson perfectly. The floor-length red gown draped elegantly, evoking the aura of Hong Kong stars from 1980s TV dramas—both dignified and enchanting.

Mu Wan hadn’t fussed over the gown—she only wanted to look good. Yet, slipping it on and glimpsing her reflection, she was unexpectedly moved, a quiet awe blooming as seriousness and anticipation rose unbidden in her chest.

Staff members were about to open the door, but Liu Qianxiu was still waiting outside. Mu Wan’s heart skipped a beat. She raised her hand and gestured, “Just a moment.” Brides often feel shy during fittings, and the staff understood, smiling at her request.

Mu Wan glanced at herself twice more, then smiled at the attendant. “That’s fine.”

The door opened. Mu Wan stepped out, heart fluttering. Liu Qianxiu stood there, eyes dark and shimmering with emotion, a faint red hue lighting his gaze. As she looked up, nerves and anticipation mingled, her smile a ripple of hope on still water.

Mu Wan’s pulse quickened. She couldn’t say if it was nerves or excitement. Flicking her sleeves, she straightened up, her smile lively yet tentative. ‘What do you think?’ she asked, voice tinged with vulnerability.

“Hmm.” Liu Qianxiu’s expression softened slightly. He quietly smoothed the collar at her neck, lifted the corners of his lips, and said in a deep voice, “Beautiful.”

Mu Wan laughed, flinging herself into his arms. Her laughter was light but edged with nervous elation. Liu Qianxiu held her, steady and warm as ever. Standing flat-footed, Mu Wan fit beneath his chin, and her heartbeat drummed with anticipation as she leaned in. Noticing her hesitation, he steadied her waist gently, inviting trust.

A deep red sash circled her waist. Her pregnancy was still early. Her belly was not yet showing. Her waist remained slender and light.

Liu Qianxiu braced her as she rose on tiptoe, her lips near his ear. The warmth of her breath, scented with rouge, teased his skin. emotion flickered in his eyes as he took in her nearness.

“Was it better than last night?” she murmured. Her voice was barely audible, yet utterly bewitching. The moment the words left her lips, the man’s hand resting on her waist visibly stiffened.

Lowering herself, heat buzzed under Mu Wan’s skin, as if fire spread from her soles, igniting her whole body. Her heart thudded, cheeks flushed, smile trembling with expectation. She tilted her head, the pale line of her neck bared, waiting breathlessly for his answer.

He lowered his gaze to meet hers, his eyes seeming to glow with a cinnabar-like hue. Sliding his hand into her hair, he gave her earlobe a subtle pinch.

Her cheeks flushed deeper. He murmured softly, “Naturally, you looked more beautiful last night.”

The more ascetic and detached a man appeared, the more alluring he was. Heart-stirring, truly. Especially when subtle, suggestive words came from his lips—he possessed such an ethereal, otherworldly bearing.

Mu Wan chuckled softly, poking him gently. “Master Liu truly has an eye for beauty.”

After trying on the wedding gown, the designer discussed and finalized the last few minor details with Mu Wan. Liu Qianxiu sat nearby, occasionally offering simple yet useful suggestions.

Master Liu’s aesthetic sense far surpassed hers.

With the gown finalized, they moved to set the wedding date and plan the ceremony. Naturally, this required input from the elders, especially Grandma Mei.

The wedding date was ultimately set for mid-October, with the ceremony planning entrusted to Mei Yaozhi. Having spent years mingling in wealthy social circles, she’d attended countless weddings and was well-connected in such matters.

This left the couple themselves with some free time. Before the wedding, Liu Qianxiu took two days off and brought Mu Wan to Qingyuan Temple.

Even in Xiacheng, October brought a hint of autumn chill, and Qingyuan Mountain felt especially crisp and clear. Standing before the temple gates, Mu Wan gazed back at the towering mountains and deep valleys, her spirit feeling remarkably expansive.

They arrived in the afternoon. Liu Qianxiu knocked on the door, and Xiao Qingchan came running to open it, her face beaming with delight.

“Junior Brother, Sister~”

Before their visit, Liu Qianxiu had called Master Xuan Qingzi, so Xiao Qingchan had known they were coming and had been excited all day. Since becoming pregnant, Mu Wan had grown even more affectionate toward children than before. Last time, she hadn’t known that Liu Qianxiu’s “senior disciple” was a seven or eight-year-old young monk. This time, she came prepared, even bringing a gift for Qingchan.

“Thank you, Sister, ~” Qingchan took the gift, naturally delighted. His cheeks flushed with joy as he led them inside, saying, “Master is in seclusion. He said you should rest first.”

Liu Qianxiu took the luggage, and the two headed to the room Mu Wan had stayed in last time.

The room was tidy and almost unchanged since Mu Wan’s departure. After telling them to rest, Qingchan left, remembering to close the door behind him.

Climbing the mountain had tired Mu Wan. The afternoon sun slanted into the room at three o’clock, and she rubbed her eyes. Since becoming pregnant, Mu Wan had been prone to drowsiness. Seeing her rub her eyes, Liu Qianxiu walked over to her side.

Seeing him approach, Mu Wan simply leaned against him, her breath warming the space between his chest. He gently stroked her hair and said, “Why don’t you take a nap first, hm?”

The last syllable was particularly indulgent. Mu Wan felt a sweetness in her heart. She hugged him and pouted, “Stay with me.”

“Alright.” Liu Qianxiu pinched her earlobe. She giggled and dodged away, scampering to the bedside and lying down.

Liu Qianxiu picked up a book, sat on the bedside, and took her hand. His palm was dry and cool. Mu Wan interlaced her fingers with his, drowsily closing her eyes.

Incurable Chapter 56 Part 2

This afternoon, the rain began. The drizzling autumn rain continued steadily until nightfall. After dinner, Mu Wan opened all the windows in the house. She sat on the carpet beside the low table as the autumn breeze swept in, carrying a hint of coolness and the scent of rain.

Liu Qianxiu sat upright beside the low table. Under the dim lamp, the man in his linen shirt exuded an otherworldly detachment, like a hermit meditating atop a mountain peak. He seemed steeped in the misty rain, tinged with an ethereal aura.

Mu Wan found herself captivated by his aura and striking features at any moment. Unconsciously, she leaned on the low table, her gaze drifting off into a daze. When Liu Qianxiu met her eyes, they sparkled brightly, and her lips turned up in a small, contented smile.

He set down the book in his hands, looking at her and asking, “What is it?”

Mu Wan smiled, straightened up, and propped her chin on her hands. “I think whether I have a boy or a girl, as long as they look like you, they'll be absolutely gorgeous.”

The corners of his lips lifted slightly as his gaze lingered on her brow and eyes. “Looking like you would be gorgeous too.”

“That's true,” Mu Wan admitted with a giggle.

The night breeze still lingered in the living room, carrying a hint of damp, rainy air—cool and sweet. Liu Qianxiu raised his hand to brush her hair, then lowered his gaze to continue reading. Mu Wan reached out and captured his hand, pressing her cheek against his palm.

“Liu Qianxiu.” Her cheek rested against his dry, cool palm as she called his name.

“Mhm.” Liu Qianxiu responded softly.

“Do you prefer a boy or a girl?” Mu Wan asked him.

Though both genders were their own children, parents often had certain preferences—some favored daughters for their docility and understanding, others preferred sons for their mischievous charm. When Lin Wei had asked her, she realized she hadn’t discussed this with Liu Qianxiu yet.

The fingers resting on her cheek shifted slightly, pinching her cheek twice. Liu Qianxiu said softly, “Either is fine. Whether it's a boy or a girl, I can protect them and ensure they grow up safe and healthy.”

Safe and healthy—ultimately, that was all parents hoped for their children, and Liu Qianxiu absolutely could deliver.

Mu Wan’s cheek brushed against his palm twice as she asked with a smile, “What about me?”

The man lifted his gaze, his dark eyes meeting hers with warmth.

“You belong solely to me,” he said. “I will protect you for a lifetime, ensuring your happiness and safety.”

The engagement banquet was set at the Liu residence, a garden-style estate as large as a small park. Though the architecture leaned toward Chinese, the event itself followed Western traditions. Tables and champagne towers were arranged in the rear garden. The night air was cool, the pitch-black sky sprinkled with starlight, and the lawn bathed in warm illumination.

The guest list was intimate, consisting of close acquaintances, so Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu didn’t need to greet everyone individually. The atmosphere remained lively nonetheless. Mu Wan relished this comfortable yet bustling setting. As well-wishers offered congratulations, she immersed herself in the moment, graciously accepting each gesture.

The back garden is connected to a pavilion with a raised platform. After toasting everyone outside, Mu Wan ascended to the second floor. The upper level wasn’t empty. Xu Xingkong sat there, accompanied by a tall, slender woman. The two seemed acquainted and were conversing.

“Mu Wan.” Xu Xingkong appeared somewhat weary, having been brought over by Huai Jing.

Seeing Mu Wan arrive, she smiled and called out.

“Xingkong.” Mu Wan smiled and gave a slight nod to the woman beside her.

Mu Wan could roughly guess that the woman beside Xu Xingkong was likely one of the Four Young Masters, He Yu’s wife, Su Qiuzhi. She was familiar with Liu Qianxiu and He Yu, but this was her first time meeting Su Qiuzhi. It seemed Su Qiuzhi rarely accompanied He Yu to such occasions.

Xu Xingkong was elegant and gentle, while Su Qiuzhi possessed a pure, jade-like grace. Her grace, however, didn’t feel cold. Rather, it carried a subtle, ethereal detachment.

“Hello, I'm Su Qiuzhi.” She smiled, her eyes and brows captivating, her voice sweet and clear.

“I'm Mu Wan.” Mu Wan greeted her with a smile as well. “Your voice is truly lovely.”

“Qiuzi is a news anchor,” Xu Xingkong, familiar with both women, offered a brief introduction. “Wanwan is an actress.”

After exchanging nods, they settled into conversation.

The three chatted casually, rarely touching on men. Each had her own career, so their talk centered on work and life—independent and thoughtful.

Later, the conversation drifted to pregnancy. Xu Xingkong shared her experiences, and Mu Wan listened attentively. Su Qiuzi, sitting nearby, wasn’t left out either. She occasionally asked a question or two.

Among the three, she and He Yu had married the earliest, yet they seemed to have no plans for children. The questions she asked were quite specific, suggesting she might not intend to have children with He Yu.

But whether to have children was a personal choice, and there was nothing to criticize about that.

As the three were talking, footsteps sounded from the staircase. Liu Qianxiu came up first, followed by Huai Jing and He Yu.

“Finished?” Mu Wan asked.

As the air grew cooler, Liu Qianxiu draped a handkerchief over her shoulders and replied, “Yes, Yao Zhi is seeing them off.”

“Then I should go downstairs,” Mu Wan said.

“No need.” Liu Qianxiu steadied her shoulders, gazing down at her softly. “Yao Zhi is attending to the guests. I'll take you to rest.”

Since she didn’t need to worry, she wouldn’t. She bid farewell to Xu Xingkong and the others. Xu Xingkong, being far along in her pregnancy, was inconvenienced by her large belly. Huai Jing supported her as they descended the stairs first.

Behind them, He Yu and Su Qiuzhi also made their way down.

The Four Young Masters of Xia City shared many similarities: all born into prestigious families as heirs, bearing noble status, and boasting physiques and features truly one in a million.

Yet their auras differed distinctly. Liu Qianxiu exuded an ethereal, detached coolness. Huai Jing radiated an aristocratic, aloof elegance with a strong air of elite sophistication. while He Yu was refined and gentle, like a polished jade stone—smooth, lustrous, and warm.

He walked ahead, cautioning Su Qiuzǐ, “Be careful.”

Despite his warning, Su Qiuzǐ missed a step. Her body lurched forward, only to be caught securely by the man.

Their bodies touched. Su Qiuzǐ flushed slightly, scrambling to her feet. She murmured, “I'm sorry.”

As they separated, Su Qiuzǐ lowered her head, carefully watching her step down the stairs. He Yu watched her, a hint of resignation flickering in his gentle eyes. Tall and long-legged, he caught up to her in two or three strides and took her hand. Su Qiuzǐ instinctively tried to pull away, but his palm was warm and firm. He guided her, reminding her, “Hold my hand.”

Her hand paused slightly before softly replying, “Okay.”

As the two walked ahead, Mu Wan caught glimpses of them from behind but quickly averted her gaze. She sensed something off—He Yu and Su Qiuzi didn’t quite seem like a married couple.

He Yu was the proactive one, while Su Qiuzi seemed somewhat withdrawn. Yet He Yu was gentle yet commanding, and Su Qiuzi quietly complied.

She didn’t probe further. Other couples had their own ways of handling matters. Outsiders shouldn’t interfere, much less gawk.

Liu Qianxiu and Mu Wan stayed at the Liu residence. The mansion’s decor carried a distinct antique flair. Judging by the antique artifacts and cultural relics scattered throughout Liu Qianxiu’s home, the mansion likely followed a similar theme.

After bathing, Mu Wan climbed into bed. With the engagement banquet over, she finally felt relief. As she drifted off to sleep, Liu Qianxiu, freshly bathed, climbed into bed behind her.

The moment he lay down, he naturally pulled her close.

Though the surroundings were unfamiliar, with Liu Qianxiu by her side, Mu Wan found the place strangely comforting. She turned, nestling into his embrace, and murmured,

“Finally done with all the work.”

She wasn’t actually tired. She just felt certain things needed to be completed before she could fully relax.

Liu Qianxiu held her close, gently brushing her hair aside to reveal a small, adorable ear. The ear was pale and delicate. He pinched it lightly, causing it to flush a faint pink.

“Not yet,” Liu Qianxiu replied.

“Hmm.” Her ear tickled from his touch. Mu Wan raised her hand to brush her earlobe, looking up at him and asking, “What else?”

He leaned down and kissed the corner of her lips. “Tomorrow, I'll take you to look at wedding dresses.”

With the engagement settled, it was time to focus on wedding preparations.

The wedding dress had been designed last week by a tailor based on Mu Wan’s preferences, as requested by Liu Qianxiu. The intricate design required extensive handcrafting, making the customization time-consuming. However, the Liu family had arranged for expedited completion. Liu Qianxiu planned to take Mu Wan to see it tomorrow. If she didn’t like it, they could have it remade.

Mu Wan returned his kiss, smiling as she asked, “Is the dress beautiful?”

“Yes,” Liu Qianxiu replied. “You'll look beautiful in it, of course.”

Mu Wan laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck. Tilting her head back, her dark eyes fixed on him, her voice sweet and husky.

“I'm prettier without it.”

The room lights remained on. Every movement of hers was reflected in the man’s eyes. After speaking, her tongue instinctively licked her lower lip, the corners of her eyes crinkling downward like a kitten wagging its tail.

Liu Qianxiu captured her lips with a kiss that was anything but refined, betraying no trace of his supposed self-restraint. Mu Wan returned the kiss with a smile, her breath gradually becoming ragged.

He kissed her, slowly unlocking her defenses, his dark eyes swirling with desire.

“Let me see you without it first.”

“Inch by inch, I won't let a single part of you escape.”

Mu Wan drew a deep breath, her fingers digging into his back.
