Incurable Chapter 57 Part 1

On weekends, Liu Qianxiu doesn’t work. The Liu residence has been without its owner for a long time. After Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu stayed overnight, the house bustled with activity this morning.

When Liu Qianxiu isn’t working, Mu Wan also gives herself a weekend off. That morning, Liu Qianxiu went to his morning meditation. Only after he finished and returned to their room did Mu Wan finally roll over and wake up.

Morning thoughts were particularly delicate and sensitive. Entwined in each other’s arms, their affection and sweetness doubled compared to other times. Finally, Liu Qianxiu picked up Mu Wan. After putting on shoes and changing clothes, he led her by the hand to the dining room for breakfast.

The Liu residence was built in the style of an ancient garden estate. Aside from their own three-story detached pavilion, most structures were two- or single-story. Long corridors connected the buildings, lined with greenery or dotted with pavilions.

After last night’s engagement banquet, an autumn rain had fallen. The greenery within the estate glistened with freshness. Walking along the corridors, the scene carried a distinct air of classical elegance.

Areas with abundant greenery also had fresher air. After breakfast, Mu Wan let Liu Qianxiu lead her on a few laps around the grounds. The Liu residence was vast. It took over an hour to explore it all.

After their stroll, the designer delivered the wedding gowns, arriving just in time. Back at the pavilion, Mu Wan slipped inside to try them on, anticipation growing with every step.

There were multiple gowns—both Chinese and Western styles. Mu Wan tried them all before settling on a simple red bridal robe. Her striking, alluring beauty suited the vibrant crimson perfectly. The floor-length red gown draped elegantly, evoking the aura of Hong Kong stars from 1980s TV dramas—both dignified and enchanting.

Mu Wan hadn’t fussed over the gown—she only wanted to look good. Yet, slipping it on and glimpsing her reflection, she was unexpectedly moved, a quiet awe blooming as seriousness and anticipation rose unbidden in her chest.

Staff members were about to open the door, but Liu Qianxiu was still waiting outside. Mu Wan’s heart skipped a beat. She raised her hand and gestured, “Just a moment.” Brides often feel shy during fittings, and the staff understood, smiling at her request.

Mu Wan glanced at herself twice more, then smiled at the attendant. “That’s fine.”

The door opened. Mu Wan stepped out, heart fluttering. Liu Qianxiu stood there, eyes dark and shimmering with emotion, a faint red hue lighting his gaze. As she looked up, nerves and anticipation mingled, her smile a ripple of hope on still water.

Mu Wan’s pulse quickened. She couldn’t say if it was nerves or excitement. Flicking her sleeves, she straightened up, her smile lively yet tentative. ‘What do you think?’ she asked, voice tinged with vulnerability.

“Hmm.” Liu Qianxiu’s expression softened slightly. He quietly smoothed the collar at her neck, lifted the corners of his lips, and said in a deep voice, “Beautiful.”

Mu Wan laughed, flinging herself into his arms. Her laughter was light but edged with nervous elation. Liu Qianxiu held her, steady and warm as ever. Standing flat-footed, Mu Wan fit beneath his chin, and her heartbeat drummed with anticipation as she leaned in. Noticing her hesitation, he steadied her waist gently, inviting trust.

A deep red sash circled her waist. Her pregnancy was still early. Her belly was not yet showing. Her waist remained slender and light.

Liu Qianxiu braced her as she rose on tiptoe, her lips near his ear. The warmth of her breath, scented with rouge, teased his skin. emotion flickered in his eyes as he took in her nearness.

“Was it better than last night?” she murmured. Her voice was barely audible, yet utterly bewitching. The moment the words left her lips, the man’s hand resting on her waist visibly stiffened.

Lowering herself, heat buzzed under Mu Wan’s skin, as if fire spread from her soles, igniting her whole body. Her heart thudded, cheeks flushed, smile trembling with expectation. She tilted her head, the pale line of her neck bared, waiting breathlessly for his answer.

He lowered his gaze to meet hers, his eyes seeming to glow with a cinnabar-like hue. Sliding his hand into her hair, he gave her earlobe a subtle pinch.

Her cheeks flushed deeper. He murmured softly, “Naturally, you looked more beautiful last night.”

The more ascetic and detached a man appeared, the more alluring he was. Heart-stirring, truly. Especially when subtle, suggestive words came from his lips—he possessed such an ethereal, otherworldly bearing.

Mu Wan chuckled softly, poking him gently. “Master Liu truly has an eye for beauty.”

After trying on the wedding gown, the designer discussed and finalized the last few minor details with Mu Wan. Liu Qianxiu sat nearby, occasionally offering simple yet useful suggestions.

Master Liu’s aesthetic sense far surpassed hers.

With the gown finalized, they moved to set the wedding date and plan the ceremony. Naturally, this required input from the elders, especially Grandma Mei.

The wedding date was ultimately set for mid-October, with the ceremony planning entrusted to Mei Yaozhi. Having spent years mingling in wealthy social circles, she’d attended countless weddings and was well-connected in such matters.

This left the couple themselves with some free time. Before the wedding, Liu Qianxiu took two days off and brought Mu Wan to Qingyuan Temple.

Even in Xiacheng, October brought a hint of autumn chill, and Qingyuan Mountain felt especially crisp and clear. Standing before the temple gates, Mu Wan gazed back at the towering mountains and deep valleys, her spirit feeling remarkably expansive.

They arrived in the afternoon. Liu Qianxiu knocked on the door, and Xiao Qingchan came running to open it, her face beaming with delight.

“Junior Brother, Sister~”

Before their visit, Liu Qianxiu had called Master Xuan Qingzi, so Xiao Qingchan had known they were coming and had been excited all day. Since becoming pregnant, Mu Wan had grown even more affectionate toward children than before. Last time, she hadn’t known that Liu Qianxiu’s “senior disciple” was a seven or eight-year-old young monk. This time, she came prepared, even bringing a gift for Qingchan.

“Thank you, Sister, ~” Qingchan took the gift, naturally delighted. His cheeks flushed with joy as he led them inside, saying, “Master is in seclusion. He said you should rest first.”

Liu Qianxiu took the luggage, and the two headed to the room Mu Wan had stayed in last time.

The room was tidy and almost unchanged since Mu Wan’s departure. After telling them to rest, Qingchan left, remembering to close the door behind him.

Climbing the mountain had tired Mu Wan. The afternoon sun slanted into the room at three o’clock, and she rubbed her eyes. Since becoming pregnant, Mu Wan had been prone to drowsiness. Seeing her rub her eyes, Liu Qianxiu walked over to her side.

Seeing him approach, Mu Wan simply leaned against him, her breath warming the space between his chest. He gently stroked her hair and said, “Why don’t you take a nap first, hm?”

The last syllable was particularly indulgent. Mu Wan felt a sweetness in her heart. She hugged him and pouted, “Stay with me.”

“Alright.” Liu Qianxiu pinched her earlobe. She giggled and dodged away, scampering to the bedside and lying down.

Liu Qianxiu picked up a book, sat on the bedside, and took her hand. His palm was dry and cool. Mu Wan interlaced her fingers with his, drowsily closing her eyes.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 610

~ WINTER IS HERE. TIME TO START LOOKING FOR A WIFE ~

Mu Yunyao carefully split each embroidery thread, meticulously stitching the phoenix’s eyes onto the wedding dress.

Yue Wang watched from the side, his eyes shining brightly. “Yao’er, did you always put this much effort into embroidery?” He had never realized that a single small eye could demand so much time.

Mu Yunyao lifted her eyes at his words and smiled softly. “The phoenix pattern on the wedding dress isn’t particularly special, so it doesn’t require much effort. The embroidered screen with the magnificent landscape pattern that I sent to the Palace through the Su family was the real dedication. To finish it in time, my wrists and neck ached so badly I dared not move a muscle. The fingers holding the needle swelled beyond recognition, and it took ages for them to recover.”

Yue Wang couldn’t help but recall those events, feeling that he and Yunyao were truly destined for each other: “When the Su family angered His Majesty over that screen, I had its origins investigated. The trail led straight to Xiayan Village, and the first person that came to mind was you. Little did I know I’d guessed correctly. Later, I even had people conceal the truth, deliberately misleading the Su family so they wouldn’t trace it back to you. My Yao’er is so clever—she gradually exposed the Su family’s true colors step by step.”

Mu Yunyao finished the last stitch, carefully tucking the thread end beneath the embroidery floss. After checking for any flaws, she set down the embroidery frame and sat beside Yue Wang.

Yue Wang slid a teacup toward her. “Rest a while. There’s no rush with this wedding dress.”

Mu Yunyao sipped her tea. Hearing children playing in the snow below, she pushed open the window to gaze at the hazy white outside. “Who would’ve thought the first snowfall of the year would come so early?”

“Indeed. Autumn was rather dry, though fortunately, summer brought ample rain, sparing the harvest. Still, with winter’s chill arriving so early, it promises to be harsh.” Areas with good harvests might fare well, but those with poor yields would likely see many freeze or starve to death.

“Fourth Master, any news from Heilongjiang City?”

“With snow already falling in the capital, Heilongjiang City must be completely cut off by heavy snow. Communication is difficult, so we can only wait patiently. As for Tianshui City, I sent men to investigate and discovered that the Li family is secretly consolidating power. Their crackdown on merchant caravans likely alerted them. I had several merchants who transported iron for the Lis interrogated in secret, but most were paid to do their jobs and knew little. Now, all eyes are on Jin Wang.”

“Regarding Jin Wang, my men have already been privately admitted into his residence. The Emperor, mindful of their father-son bond, has issued an edict forbidding Jin Wang from leaving his residence or receiving visitors. Yet, he remains vigilant, ensuring Jin Wang is not mistreated. Servants come and go with remarkable ease, which has allowed our agents to infiltrate with surprising smoothness.”

Yue Wang nodded. “Will Jin Wang suspect anything?”

“His recent ordeal has nearly driven him mad. Now, even the slightest glimmer of hope would be clutched like a lifeline. Besides, I arranged everything with extreme caution, ensuring he remains completely unaware.”

“That’s good. The Second Imperial Brother has already coordinated with the Marquis Wei. Though the Marquis Wei has always been fair and impartial, Second Imperial Brother is his grandson, and he adores his daughter, Imperial Concubine Qi. He has agreed to help Second Imperial Brother reach out to the neutral ministers in court, striving to secure the Crown Prince’s position before the year’s end.”

“The Marquis Wei’s character and conduct have always commanded respect, especially among upright ministers who hold him in high esteem. Coupled with this marriage alliance to the Min family, the influence of Grand Secretary Min will also lean toward him. He should not lose to Ling Wang.”

“Mhm.”

Mu Yunyao gazed at the snowy scene for a long while before suddenly lifting her head and rubbing her temples.

Prince Yue took her fingers in his, concern in his eyes. “Yao’er, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing. It’s just that with all the turmoil and constant issues lately, I feel a bit weary.”

Yue Wang drew her close, letting her rest her head on his shoulder. “Rest a while. I’ll be with you.”

Mu Yunyao relaxed into Yue Wang’s embrace and soon drifted into a drowsy haze. Yet her mind lingered on the embroidery of her wedding dress, prompting her to murmur, “I’ll just close my eyes for a moment. Don’t forget to wake me later, Fourth Master.”

“Alright.” Yue Wang murmured, turning to look at Mu Yunyao. He saw her long lashes had already closed, and she was fast asleep, looking sweet. Seeing her like this, Yue Wang felt a pang of pain in his heart. Because of his affairs, she had truly worried herself to pieces these past days.

When Mu Yunyao awoke again, the sound of wheels rolling over stone pavements reached her ears. Opening her eyes and focusing, she realized she was inside a moving carriage. Yue Wang held her in his arms, his movements exceptionally gentle, as if he feared disturbing her. “Your Royal Highness, what time is it now? Are we preparing to return to the Palace?”

Yue Wang gently helped her sit upright, carefully tucking a blanket around her legs. “The weather has turned cold. Those who’ve just awakened are most susceptible to catching a chill. You must take extra care in the future. You’ve slept for nearly an hour and a half. It’s already late, and we should be approaching the Palace gates shortly.”

Mu Yunyao felt a touch of embarrassment. “I didn’t realize I’d slept so long. When we boarded the carriage, did Your Royal Highness carry me up?”

Yue Wang looked at her with a hint of amusement, feigning puzzlement. “Indeed, I carried you into the carriage. Yao’er, does that make you happy... or unhappy?”

Mu Yunyao opened her mouth, about to answer, then abruptly stopped herself. If she said she was unhappy, it would mean she didn’t want more contact with Yue Wang. Once spoken, he would surely be heartbroken and cling to her, demanding compensation. If she said she was happy, it would mean she welcomed such intimate contact, and Yue Wang would undoubtedly become overconfident, pushing his boundaries even further.

In the past few days, Yue Wang had become a different person, constantly clinging to her. He showed no restraint, even in front of her maternal grandmother, which led her grandmother to tease her several times.

Thinking this, Mu Yunyao snorted inwardly and tossed the question back lightly: “Does Your Royal Highness prefer me to say I was happy, or unhappy?”

Yue wang pulled her into his embrace along with the blanket, gently nuzzling her cheek with his chin. “I want Yao’er to say she’s happy, and I want you to be truly happy. Because if you’re unhappy, there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Mu Yunyao couldn’t help but curve her lips. His nuzzling tickled her, and she quickly dodged with a laugh. For a moment, the two of them were tangled in playful bickering.

Outside, Yu Heng instinctively slowed the carriage’s pace. He lifted his head to gaze at the vast expanse of white snow blanketing the landscape, exhaling a faint puff of breath.

Having spent so long by his Master’s side, he couldn’t help but feel life was as lonely as the snow. Perhaps it was time to start looking for a wife. With Master in such a good mood lately, he might even manage to secure a larger reward.

Speaking of which, Miss Ji Lan would be perfect. Gentle and virtuous, beautiful with a lovely figure, her voice soft and sweet. The only question was whether she’d ever notice a rough fellow like him. Perhaps he should learn from the Master’s ways and pursue her. Recalling how Master had won Miss Mu’s favor with flowers and ice lanterns, he glanced at the snow swirling outside. Hmm... Winter had arrived, and the season for gifting ice lanterns had come again.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 609

~ ONCE YOU’VE GOT A WIFE, YOU FORGET YOUR FATHER. ~

Mu Yunyao snapped back to her senses, silently suppressing her wandering thoughts. “Grandmother, Imperial Concubine Qi and Imperial Concubine Li entered the Palace in the same year, conceived in the same year, and were both elevated to the rank of Consort in the same year. Yet Imperial Concubine Qi seems far less conspicuous in the harem than Imperial Concubine Li.”

Grand Princess Yi De smiled. “Imperial Concubine Qi is the youngest daughter of the Marquis Wei, and also his only daughter. She was cherished from childhood, yet her character is remarkably clear-sighted, free from the common flaws of other young ladies. Though born a woman, she is fond of military strategy and excels in martial arts. Don’t be fooled by her delicate appearance. She can dispatch four or five men in mere moments. Once, she even used her martial skills to help the Emperor fend off an assassin. Though the Emperor never speaks of it, he remembers this debt of gratitude clearly.”

“Such a legendary woman should have lived a very successful life, so why is the situation quite the opposite?”

“It’s a cruel twist of fate. Back then, the powerful families in the court held considerable influence. The Marquis Wei commanded vast military forces, and his support was crucial to maintaining the Emperor’s stability. To solidify this alliance, the Emperor took Imperial Concubine Qi into the Palace. However, she had already been betrothed and had her sweetheart. To prove his loyalty, the Marquis Wei forcibly separated them and sent Imperial Concubine Qi to the Emperor. Though Imperial Concubine Qi never voiced her grievances, a deep-seated resentment has lingered in her heart all these years. Even within the Imperial Harem, she remains detached, as if she has renounced worldly attachments. The Emperor, aware of her emotional burden, has always indulged her.”

Mu Yunyao froze, then realized: “I see. Has Imperial Concubine Qi come to terms with it now?”

Grand Princess Yi De smiled: “Even if she hasn’t, she must consider Yu Wang. As a mother, she would do anything for her child.”

Mu Yunyao sighed inwardly and stepped forward to massage Grand Princess Yi De’s shoulders: “Grandmother, there’s something I must trouble you with.”

“There’s no need for formalities between us. What is it?”

“The Emperor intends to move against the Li family. Yue Wang and I wish to assist him, but during our investigation, we discovered the Li family appears to have ties to the royal house of the Northern Frontier.”

At these words, Grand Princess Yi De abruptly seized Mu Yunyao’s hand, her gaze sharpening to a piercing intensity. “Is this information confirmed?”

“My man is embedded within the Li family and close to Ling Wang. He handles matters with utmost discretion. The intelligence he risked his life to relay should be reliable.”

Grand Princess Yi De narrowed her eyes slightly. “The Li family... they must be eliminated. Yao’er, how do you wish Grandmother to proceed?”

“Matters within the imperial harem are beyond my reach and His Highness Yue Wang’s influence. Therefore, I wish for you to help me thoroughly suppress Imperial Concubine Li. Furthermore, none of Chancellor Li’s sons has produced heirs, and among her daughters, aside from Imperial Concubine Li, none has borne children either. I find this situation highly unusual. The Li family keeps it tightly under wraps, making investigation impossible. I want to ask Grandmother to see if a breakthrough can be found through Imperial Concubine Li.”

Grand Princess Yi De’s phoenix-like eyes darkened: “Rest assured, Yao’er. Leave this matter to me.”

“Thank you, Grandmother.”

“This Li Qingzhou... Yao’er, keep this matter quiet for now. We mustn’t alert the Li family prematurely. They might grow defensive or, cornered, resort to desperate measures. Their cover is too well-laid, and no one knows what hidden schemes lurk behind it. Until we’re certain we can uproot the Li family entirely, we must not raise their suspicions.”

“Rest assured, Grandmother. Yue Wang and I will be vigilant.”

Over the next few days, turmoil swept through the imperial harem.

Imperial Concubine Li’s face was covered in medicinal ointments, yet showed no signs of improvement. The continuous visits from other concubines only heightened her agitation, driving her to report the matter directly to the Emperor.

Upon learning of this, the Concubines fell quiet for a time. But when the Emperor showed no reaction, they grew elated and began visiting the Liuli Palace even more frequently.

After all, the Emperor had only confined Imperial Concubine Li to her quarters, and he hadn’t forbidden anyone from showing concern. In the past, Consort Li had been most fond of putting on airs, demanding that lower-ranking Concubines pay their respects daily. Though she had now fallen from grace and lost her beauty, the rules couldn’t be abandoned, could they?

However, after each of these visits, a large quantity of porcelain would be shattered in Imperial Concubine Li’s Liuli Palace. When Imperial Concubine Qi audited the harem’s expenditures, she discovered this and immediately reported it to the Emperor. The Emperor ordered that more durable porcelain and ornaments be sent to Liuli Palace. Imperial Concubine Qi promptly instructed the Department of Internal Affairs to exchange them for a batch of copper and wooden items to be delivered.

Ling Wang sought an audience with the Emperor on this matter multiple times, but the Emperor consistently avoided him. Even many court officials began distancing themselves from him.

Returning to his residence, Ling Wang, consumed by rage, smashed his study in a dark-faced fury.

Li Qingzhou arrived and, seeing his state, spoke up to console him: “Your Royal Highness, you must remain calm now. Do not let yourself be thrown into disarray.”

“Grandfather, Imperial Father, previously stated that by the New Year, he would begin rejecting candidates for Crown Prince. But look at the situation now, Imperial Mother is in grave danger, and the ministers in the court have largely distanced themselves from me. How can I possibly succeed under these circumstances?”

“I was negligent. I never imagined merely testing Grand Princess Yi De would lead to such severe consequences. Still, Your Royal Highness, do not be overly anxious. Grand Princess Yi De’s influence is vast. Does the Emperor not harbor some displeasure? As for the court ministers, they are mere fence-sitters. They fear the Grand Princess’s power now and keep their distance from us, but once she falls, they will immediately flock to us.”

Ling Wang frowned. “But time is running out. Without evidence of the Grand Princess’s crimes, how can we bring her down?”

“Time is indeed pressing, but the Emperor’s deadline for rejecting the Crown Prince isn’t set in stone.”

“Grandfather, you have a plan?”

“We’re getting closer. You’ll know in a couple of days. Your Royal Highness, please be patient.”

After winter began, the weather turned cold quickly. Within days, a heavy snowfall blanketed the land.

Mu Yunyao and Yue Wang left the Palace for Ni Yun Fang. The wedding dress had been cut and many intricate patterns embroidered. Mu Yunyao wished to stitch the dragon-phoenix motifs herself, hence her frequent daytime excursions outside the Palace.

Yue Wang had been staying in the Palace these past days. After investigating Empress Wei’s death, he felt considerably less burdened by his grievances toward the Emperor. With their father-son relationship mended, the Emperor finally tasted a rare paternal affection from Yue Wang. He summoned him daily for companionship. Learning that Yue Wang would accompany Mu Yunyao outside the Palace, the Emperor grew displeased, venting his grievances to Grand Princess Yi De: “Now that Yue Wang has a wife, he’s forgotten his father.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 608

~ THE MOST CRUCIAL THING ABOUT PLAYING THE INNOCENT ACT IS YOUR FACE ~

The two glared at each other for a long moment before their gazes gradually softened. In unison, they said, “Don’t tell Yunyao what I just said.”

They studied each other once more, now finally beginning to accept one another.

Mu Yunyao watched this scene unfold from afar, a faint smile curving her lips.

Jin Lan exhaled in relief. “I truly feared Miss Su and the Poisonous Lady might come to blows. Are you not worried, Miss?”

“Su You appears simple-minded, but after enduring the agony of being betrayed by her own kin, she rarely trusts others. As for Poisonous Lady, it goes without saying that if she could trust someone so easily, she wouldn’t still be wandering the martial world alone. Neither is the type to accept someone as a friend readily. Yet, for my sake, they both chose to put on a facade. It’s quite a bittersweet situation, really.“

”Then why did you feel comfortable letting them be alone together?“

”The heavier the heart, the greater the loneliness. Both are friends I cherished, and naturally, I hoped they could become confidantes. Judging by the results, it seems to be working out rather well, doesn’t it?”

When Mu Yunyao returned, Su You and Poisonous Lady were once again acting like the closest of sisters. Mu Yunyao didn’t expose them. Instead, she played along as if she knew nothing. Though their backgrounds were unusual, both possessed remarkably pure hearts. With time spent together, they would surely find common ground.

After the Palace Banquet concluded, Mu Yunyao had some pastries prepared and sent them to Su You to take away. This caused Poisonous Lady to sulk all day, until Mu Yunyao specially made her a batch of Qiaomo buns to appease her.

The sudden reversal of the Grand Princess, who had never before hosted a banquet, immediately caught the attention of the other Imperial Concubines in the harem as a tacit sign of the Grand Princess’s intent to target the Li family, and one by one, they grew restless, launching attacks against Imperial Concubine Li.

However, the palace maids serving Imperial Concubine Li proved exceptionally loyal, shielding her from many troubles. Yet, five days later, rumours spread throughout the Palace that Imperial Concubine Li had eaten something spoiled. Now her body was covered in red rashes. She had accidentally scratched them, causing the rashes to break open. Even if they eventually healed, they would leave unsightly scars.

It was said that the rash on her face had broken open. Upon learning the scars would remain, she flew into a rage, furiously ordering her maids to summon the Imperial Physicians. By some strange coincidence, Imperial Concubine Qi suddenly fainted. The Emperor grew deeply anxious, summoning every physician from the Imperial Hospital. After much effort, one physician was finally spared, though he lacked expertise in treating Imperial Concubine Li’s ailment. He could only prescribe some heat-clearing and toxin-eliminating herbs for temporary relief. The Emperor reasoned that even if they didn’t cure her, they wouldn’t cause harm and should be harmless. Unexpectedly, after taking the medicine, Imperial Concubine Li’s rash grew even more severe.

This time, Imperial Concubine Li threw a full-blown tantrum, and it didn’t take long before the Emperor was alerted.

Imperial Concubine Qi had injured her body years earlier while giving birth to Yu Wang. Now, the strain of managing Palace affairs, coupled with Imperial Concubine Li’s constant harassment, had triggered her old ailment, leading to her fainting spell. The Emperor, upon learning of this, felt deeply distressed and grew even more displeased with Imperial Concubine Li. Now, hearing of her disturbance, he stormed angrily to Liuli Palace.

Imperial Concubine Li’s face was both painful and itchy, yet she dared not touch it with her hands. She was extremely agitated. Hearing the Emperor had arrived, she hurried out to greet him.

In the past, her maids would have reminded her to wear a veil. After all, her face, now covered in a terrifying rash, was truly frightening. If she startled the Emperor, it would be considered disturbing his presence, and she might face punishment. Moreover, to win the Emperor’s affection, her face needed to be at least presentable. Her current ghastly, half-human, half-ghost appearance might scare him away.

The Emperor was indeed startled. Upon entering the Liuli Palace, he saw a figure with a flushed face and bloodshot eyes rushing toward him. He nearly instinctively called for guards to apprehend her. Only upon recognising her attire did he realise it was Imperial Concubine Li.

“Imperial Concubine Li, how did you become this way?”

Imperial Concubine Li immediately knelt on the ground, her eyes brimming with tears of grievance. “Your Majesty, someone has deliberately framed this humble servant. I beg you to vindicate me.”

“Deliberately framed? Did you consult the Imperial Physicians?”

“Your servant sent for physicians, but the palace maids spent ages finding only one. After taking the decoction he prescribed, the rash grew worse. I’ve never suffered such a strange ailment before. Someone must have poisoned me.”

“So you’re blaming me for dismissing all the Imperial Physicians?”

“Your humble servant dares not, but I simply feel that Imperial Concubine Qi’s side likely doesn’t require so many physicians...”

Mentioning Imperial Concubine Qi only further fueled the Emperor’s anger: “Imperial Concubine Qi fainted from exhaustion managing palace affairs, yet here you are making snide remarks. You call her ‘sisters’ with such warmth, yet your heart harbours venomous resentment. Li, I am truly disappointed in you. I shall find several skilled physicians to treat you. However, with your face covered in rashes, you are not suitable for exposure to the wind. Remain in Liuli Palace to recuperate. You may come out only when fully recovered.”

When Mu Yunyao heard this news, she was playing chess with Grand Princess Yi De. Startled, she dropped a piece in the wrong spot. Just as she considered retracting the move, she realised the placement was actually quite advantageous.

Grand Princess Yi De, noticing her expression, couldn’t help but smile. “Sometimes, meticulous planning and calculated moves pale in comparison to an accidental slip. even a mistake could hold its own unique charm.” Her capabilities could certainly crush Imperial Concubine Li completely, but personally intervening to deal with Imperial Concubine Li would be too troublesome. It would be far simpler to give her a nudge from behind the scenes; plenty of others would be happy to help her achieve her goals.

Mu Yunyao paused, then smiled: “Yao’er thanks Grandmother for her guidance.”

“You are exceptionally intelligent and don’t need much instruction from me. It’s just that sometimes you’re too cautious. But like a chessboard, opportunities often vanish in an instant. If you don’t take a risk to seize them in that moment, you might end up in utter defeat. Yao’er, you should learn to be more carefree and unrestrained.“

Mu Yunyao understood her own habits. They were shaped by her previous life. She didn’t want to lose another cherished person because of her own mistakes. But now, things were entirely different. Perhaps it was time to try a little change.

”Qu Mama, what is the current situation with Imperial Concubine Qi?” After explaining the reasoning to Mu Yunyao, Grand Princess Yi De left her to ponder alone before shifting the topic to Imperial Concubine Qi’s condition.

“Reporting to Your Highness, I hear Imperial Concubine Qi is quite pleased now that Imperial Concubine Li has been confined to her quarters. She has resumed handling palace affairs, though her complexion remains poor. The Emperor has repeatedly urged her to rest for a few more days.”

Grand Princess Yi De chuckled. “The Marquis Wei’s lineage has produced generations of loyal and valiant generals, yet this Imperial Concubine Qi has a very shrewd and calculating mind.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 607

~ AWKWARDNESS AND ARROGANCE ~

Upon hearing Mu Yunyao still address her as sister, Su You finally couldn’t hold back: “You said you’d visit often. I waited for you for so long, but you never came back to my house. Later, I couldn’t stand it anymore and sent an invitation to meet you at Qinfang Garden, only to be told you’d moved into the Palace. Hmph.”

Mu Yunyao motioned for Jin Lan to bring over the pastries she had prepared earlier. She picked one up and offered it to Su You’s lips. “I knew you were coming, so I made these myself. Try one. Do they still suit your taste?”

Su You’s eyes lit up. “You made these just for me?”

Mu Yunyao nodded. “Yes. I know your health isn’t the best, and you can’t have overly sweet things, so I deliberately used less sugar.”

Su You promptly picked up an exquisitely crafted rose-shaped pastry and popped it into her mouth. The delicacy was the perfect size for a single bite. She ate three in succession before pausing, nodding with satisfaction. ”Your skills are improving by leaps and bounds.“

”There are some leftovers. If you’d like, I’ll have Jin Lan pack them for you to take when the banquet ends.”

“Alright.”

Su You lifted her teacup for a sip, discovering that it contained the current popular fruit-and-flower tea in the Capital. A deeper warmth filled her heart. “Yunyao, I have something important to tell you this time.”

Su You wore a smile, appearing unchanged from usual, showing no hint of unusualness, yet she lowered her voice slightly.

Mu Yunyao’s eyes flickered: “What is it?”

“Su Yuyi said there’s a letter hidden in the Su family residence, a letter written in the Old Madam’s own hand. It details Yue Wang’s background and uses it as evidence to accuse Grand Princess Yi De of harbouring ill intentions. After Mother and I learned of this, we secretly ordered a thorough search of the entire estate. We finally found the letter in a hidden compartment beside the bed in the Old Madam’s quarters. We intended to destroy it immediately, but Father said it would be better for you to handle it.”

Su You spoke, reaching out to take Mu Yunyao’s hand. Today, Mu Yunyao wore a plain brocade dress embroidered with orchid patterns, its sleeves layered with exquisite craftsmanship. Using the sleeve as a cover, Mu Yunyao easily felt the letter hidden within Su You’s sleeve and discreetly tucked it into her own sleeve pocket.

“Sister Su You, thank you.” After the heavenly banquet, she had secretly sent people to search the Su residence for that letter, but unfortunately, they couldn’t find it. She even secretly guessed that Su Yuyi might have taken the letter. Unexpectedly, Su You actually found it for her.

Su You’s eyes sparkled. Helping Mu Yunyao brought her more joy than anything else, though her tone still sounded a bit awkward: “When I leave later, you have to give me extra pastries. Pack up all your leftovers for me to take.”

”Sure, you can take them all.” Mu Yunyao’s eyes sparkled with amusement. Su You’s pure-hearted nature always made her feel exceptionally at ease. ”By the way, I recently met a new friend. She’s really wonderful. How about I introduce you two?”

“A new friend... Would she .... like me?”

“Of course...”

Before Mu Yunyao could finish, Su You felt a pinch on her cheek. She whirled around to find a pair of eyes crinkled in amusement.

“You’re Su You?” The Poisonous Lady wore a purple silk blouse embroidered with emerald patterns, paired with a delicate silk skirt adorned with subtle floral designs. Her hair was held up by a jade hairpin engraved with autumn butterflies, giving her an exceptionally dignified and graceful appearance. Yet now, with one hand tucked behind her back and the other pinching Su You’s cheek, her beaming expression felt strangely incongruous.

Su You was startled into silence, her moist eyes widening as she nodded helplessly, her face a picture of grief.

The Poisonous Lady’s eyes lit up. She gently tapped Su You’s eyelashes with her fingertip. Seeing Su You’s fluffed-up, startled expression, her smile grew even brighter. “How amusing! Yunyao, you must introduce us to each other.”

Mu Yunyao quickly pulled Su You close to her side, shooting the Poisonous Lady a sharp, silent glare. “Su You is young. She’s been confined to the Su residence due to poor health, so she hasn’t met many people. She’s innocent and timid. Don’t frighten her. Su You, this is the friend I mentioned earlier. Her real name is Xian Ling’er, but you can call her the Poisonous Lady. Her medical and poison skills are extraordinary. She’s a bit eccentric, but she means no harm.”

Su You examined the Poisonous Lady with wide-eyed curiosity, her gaze brimming with admiration. “Greetings, Sister Poisonous Lady. I... I think you have a wonderful nature. I envy you. I’m not afraid at all.”

The Poisonous Lady’s eyes brightened. She took Su You’s hand, placed two fingers near her pulse point, and carefully checked her pulse. “No need for formalities, Little Su You. Though the poison in your body has been purged, you must still take special care with your recuperation. Later, I’ll give you some of my treasured medicinal pills. Take one every so often, and within a year, I guarantee you’ll be healthy and free from illness.”

“Yunyao already gave me a prescription. I’m much better now than before.”

“Her medical skills are just quack level. I’m the reliable one here. Trust me, you won’t regret it.” The Poisonous Lady couldn’t help but poke Su You’s cheeks when she smiled, revealing two dimples. This girl was so pure and utterly adorable.

Su You’s cheeks flushed slightly. She wanted to lift her head and cover the dimples, but felt that would be overreacting: “I trust both the Poisonous Lady and Yunyao. Both of your medical skills are amazing.”

The Poisonous Lady couldn’t help but ruffle her bangs: “Such a good girl.”

Mu Yunyao spoke up: “This is Grandmother’s banquet, with many guests present. Stay put for a while so people won’t gossip.“

”Alright, alright, I know, Mother Hen.” After responding to Mu Yunyao, the Poisonous Lady turned her full attention back to Su You. The two chattered away, their lively exchange leaving Mu Yunyao standing awkwardly to the side.

“You two chat for a bit. I’ll go see how Grandmother’s flower viewing is going.”

The Poisonous Lady waved her hand. “Go, go. I’ll take good care of Su You.”

Once Mu Yunyao left, the previously animated pair abruptly fell silent, eyeing each other warily.

Being the younger and more impatient of the two, Su You spoke first: “Yunyao is the only friend I truly consider mine. Don’t misunderstand. Earlier, I was trying not to put Yun Yao in a difficult position.”

The Poisonous Lady snorted derisively. “Same goes for you. I hear your Su family treated Yunyao terribly. While it’s unfair to judge an entire clan, your family’s past deeds were disgraceful. Who knows if your second branch isn’t just putting on a good show?”

Su You snorted coldly. She could sense that the Poisonous Woman was targeting her without much malice, but she couldn’t stand the fact that Mu Yun Yao seemed closer to her. Unable to restrain herself, she sneered, “Aren’t you skilled in both medicine and poison? Just keep tending to Yunyao as usual. But don’t even think about playing dirty tricks. If you do, even if the Su family is on its last legs, we’ll still find a way to make you pay.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 606

~ THE PUNISHMENT WAS TOO LENIENT ~

Upon hearing that the Emperor had yet to deal with Imperial Concubine Li, Mu Yunyao nodded. “Right. I’ll go pay my respects to my grandmother first, then come back to see you later.”

“I want to eat those Qiaomo, the kind you steamed for Yue Wang last time.” Seeing her about to leave, the Poisonous Lady hurriedly spoke up.

Mu Yunyao turned and glared at her. “I gave you a small steamer basket last time. It’s only been a few days. Haven’t you had enough yet?”

“Not enough! The one I ate was shaped like a puppy, and I didn’t like it. I want one shaped like a fox.”

“Oh, very well. Ta Xue likes them too. I’ll send her over to you later. You two can eat together, she’ll be absolutely delighted.”

The Poisonous Lady choked, glaring resentfully at Mu Yunyao. “Hurry up and leave!” This woman knew exactly how to hit her weak spot. Hmph, once she built up her courage, she might not be afraid anymore .... Hmm, maybe ....

Mu Yunyao smiled as she exited the side hall. After taking a few steps, she sighed softly. The Poisonous Lady’s interruption had gradually lightened the weight on her heart. “Jin Lan, inform the kitchen that tomorrow’s midday pastries need not be prepared. I shall make them myself.”

“Yes.”

Mu Yunyao drew a breath, her smile gradually returning to normal. The game of wits with the Li family had officially begun. The more perilous the situation, the steadier she must remain. Panic easily leads to mistakes. The Li family controlled Qiming, leaving her temporarily at a disadvantage. However, with her grandmother and Yue Wang by her side, this was far from over. She had ample opportunity to strike back.

By evening, news finally arrived from Imperial Concubine Li’s quarters.

Jin Qiao reported softly, “Miss, His Majesty has learned of Imperial Concubine Li’s use of the fake pregnancy herb on Su Yuyi. However, the maids and nannies in Imperial Concubine Li’s service are exceptionally loyal. Many were beaten to death without betraying her. Ultimately, though suspicion fell squarely on Imperial Concubine Li, no definitive charges were laid. His Majesty merely punished her by ordering her to copy ten volumes of sutras. That was all...”

Mu Yunyao didn’t seem particularly surprised. “Imperial Concubine Li has been in the Palace for years and knows its intrigues well. The Li family thoroughly vets the maids and nannies around her, controlling their families too. To save their loved ones’ lives, they’d never betray Imperial ConcubineLi.”

“That may be true, but this involves a life. Even if Su Yuyi had committed many wrongs before, a mere ten volumes of scripture copying seems far too lenient.”

Mu Yunyao smiled and shook her head. “Do you know what women in the Palace fear most?”

Jin Lan tentatively answered, “Losing the Emperor’s favor?”

“Exactly. The Emperor’s favor is the foundation upon which every woman in the harem stands. Imperial Concubine Li has occupied a high position since entering the Palace. All these years, she’s sailed through smoothly. Though she never achieved supreme favor, she’s lived far more comfortably than the other women. She’s always used her status to punish others, never once tasting the bitterness of punishment herself.”

“This servant happened to overhear Qu Mama mention this once. Imperial Concubine Li was granted the title of Imperial Concubine upon entering the Palace. Later, despite bearing no heir, she was elevated to Imperial Concubine. After conceiving and giving birth, when the Empress encountered misfortune and the harem lacked leadership, the Emperor promoted her to the rank of Imperial Concubine. Though Imperial Concubine Qi, who entered the Palace alongside her, held the same rank, the Marquis Wei was a man of low profile. Imperial Concubine Qi herself disliked vying for attention, so Imperial Concubine Li overshadowed her without even trying. Truly, Imperial Concubine Li’s path has been smooth sailing to the extreme.”

“Indeed. Though the harem’s rivalries are brutal, they vary by individual. At least Imperial Concubine Li never experienced such cruelty before. But now? A tiger fallen from its perch is bullied by dogs. The slightest stir in the harem gets blown out of proportion. Merely being punished to copy sutras has already drawn the harem’s relentless attacks. With schemes multiplying daily, how many days do you think Imperial Concubine Li can endure?”

Jin Lan sighed in agreement, “Even if the maidservants by Imperial Concubine Li’s side are utterly loyal and protective, there will inevitably be moments when they can’t guard her completely...”

Mu Yunyao nodded. “Once you’ve been hit, it’s like a snowball rolling downhill. It only gets bigger. The harem excels at striking while you’re down. Imperial Concubine Li has made no shortage of enemies here, and the fake pregnancy herb certainly isn’t being used for the first time. Just watch, we won’t even need to lift a finger. Imperial Concubine Li will bring utter ruin upon herself.”

Over the next few days, Jin Lan and Jin Qiao kept a close watch on the harem. As expected, after Imperial Concubine Li’s punishment, many came under the guise of visiting to probe her condition. Some even ventured to test the waters with Grand Princess Yi De. After all, at the Palace banquet that day, the Li family and Imperial Concubine Zhen had attacked the Grand Princess Yi De. If the Grand Princess wished to punish Imperial Concubine Li, they could step in to do the job. It was revenge they sought anyway, and if they could curry favor with the Grand Princess in the process, wouldn’t that be killing two birds with one stone?

Contrary to her usual practice of avoiding them, Grand Princess Yi De instead took advantage of the pleasant autumn weather to host a flower-viewing banquet.

To enhance the occasion, Mu Yunyao specially arranged for numerous autumn chrysanthemums in full bloom to be brought from Qinfang Garden. The vibrant chrysanthemums of every hue vied for attention, creating a truly magnificent spectacle.

In a rare display of good cheer, Grand Princess Yi Dde even invited the Emperor to attend. The women of the harem, dressed in their finest attire, stood amidst the blooms, each radiating unique grace and beauty that rivaled the flowers themselves.

After a brief conversation with the Grand Yi De, Mu Yunyao went to meet Lady Jin.

Lady Jin’s eyes lit up with joy upon seeing Mu Yunyao. She rose to pay her respects, but Mu Yunyao gently stopped her with a hand: “Godmother, you flatter me.”

Seeing Mu Yunyao’s unchanged demeanor toward her, Lady Jin’s anxiety melted away. “Yao’er grows more beautiful by the day. When I last saw you, I felt your aura was pure and graceful. Now, not only has that aura become more vibrant, but your mature beauty has reached a level that could captivate a city. It truly takes one’s breath away.”

“Please stop praising me, Godmother. You’re making me blush.” Mu Yunyao curtsied. “Are Godfather and Brother Zhiwen both well?”

“They’re both well, both well. They miss you often.”

“It’s my fault. I’ll come apologize to Godfather another day.”

Lady Jin smiled warmly. After Mu Yunyao’s true identity was revealed, she and Cao Yunnian felt uneasy. They had even sought an audience with Grand Princess Yi De, hoping to dissolve their previous foster relationship. After all, Yunyao was now a princess. How could they possibly be worthy?

But Mu Yunyao refused. Grand Princess Yi De herself remarked that their care in Jingling City had been invaluable, cementing the godparent relationship permanently. Now, countless people envied their good fortune. Even the Jin family dared not cause trouble casually anymore. These days brought an unprecedented peace.

After speaking with Lady Jin, Mu Yunyao went to see the Su family’s second mistress, Madam Qi. To her delight, Su You was also present. She immediately led them to a quiet corner to sit and talk.

Su You looked somewhat awkward, twisting the handkerchief in his hand while glancing at Mu Yunyao out of the corner of his eye, his expression seemingly displeased.

Mu Yunyao couldn’t help but smile. “Sister Su You, are you angry with me?”

Incurable Chapter 56 Part 2

This afternoon, the rain began. The drizzling autumn rain continued steadily until nightfall. After dinner, Mu Wan opened all the windows in the house. She sat on the carpet beside the low table as the autumn breeze swept in, carrying a hint of coolness and the scent of rain.

Liu Qianxiu sat upright beside the low table. Under the dim lamp, the man in his linen shirt exuded an otherworldly detachment, like a hermit meditating atop a mountain peak. He seemed steeped in the misty rain, tinged with an ethereal aura.

Mu Wan found herself captivated by his aura and striking features at any moment. Unconsciously, she leaned on the low table, her gaze drifting off into a daze. When Liu Qianxiu met her eyes, they sparkled brightly, and her lips turned up in a small, contented smile.

He set down the book in his hands, looking at her and asking, “What is it?”

Mu Wan smiled, straightened up, and propped her chin on her hands. “I think whether I have a boy or a girl, as long as they look like you, they'll be absolutely gorgeous.”

The corners of his lips lifted slightly as his gaze lingered on her brow and eyes. “Looking like you would be gorgeous too.”

“That's true,” Mu Wan admitted with a giggle.

The night breeze still lingered in the living room, carrying a hint of damp, rainy air—cool and sweet. Liu Qianxiu raised his hand to brush her hair, then lowered his gaze to continue reading. Mu Wan reached out and captured his hand, pressing her cheek against his palm.

“Liu Qianxiu.” Her cheek rested against his dry, cool palm as she called his name.

“Mhm.” Liu Qianxiu responded softly.

“Do you prefer a boy or a girl?” Mu Wan asked him.

Though both genders were their own children, parents often had certain preferences—some favored daughters for their docility and understanding, others preferred sons for their mischievous charm. When Lin Wei had asked her, she realized she hadn’t discussed this with Liu Qianxiu yet.

The fingers resting on her cheek shifted slightly, pinching her cheek twice. Liu Qianxiu said softly, “Either is fine. Whether it's a boy or a girl, I can protect them and ensure they grow up safe and healthy.”

Safe and healthy—ultimately, that was all parents hoped for their children, and Liu Qianxiu absolutely could deliver.

Mu Wan’s cheek brushed against his palm twice as she asked with a smile, “What about me?”

The man lifted his gaze, his dark eyes meeting hers with warmth.

“You belong solely to me,” he said. “I will protect you for a lifetime, ensuring your happiness and safety.”

The engagement banquet was set at the Liu residence, a garden-style estate as large as a small park. Though the architecture leaned toward Chinese, the event itself followed Western traditions. Tables and champagne towers were arranged in the rear garden. The night air was cool, the pitch-black sky sprinkled with starlight, and the lawn bathed in warm illumination.

The guest list was intimate, consisting of close acquaintances, so Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu didn’t need to greet everyone individually. The atmosphere remained lively nonetheless. Mu Wan relished this comfortable yet bustling setting. As well-wishers offered congratulations, she immersed herself in the moment, graciously accepting each gesture.

The back garden is connected to a pavilion with a raised platform. After toasting everyone outside, Mu Wan ascended to the second floor. The upper level wasn’t empty. Xu Xingkong sat there, accompanied by a tall, slender woman. The two seemed acquainted and were conversing.

“Mu Wan.” Xu Xingkong appeared somewhat weary, having been brought over by Huai Jing.

Seeing Mu Wan arrive, she smiled and called out.

“Xingkong.” Mu Wan smiled and gave a slight nod to the woman beside her.

Mu Wan could roughly guess that the woman beside Xu Xingkong was likely one of the Four Young Masters, He Yu’s wife, Su Qiuzhi. She was familiar with Liu Qianxiu and He Yu, but this was her first time meeting Su Qiuzhi. It seemed Su Qiuzhi rarely accompanied He Yu to such occasions.

Xu Xingkong was elegant and gentle, while Su Qiuzhi possessed a pure, jade-like grace. Her grace, however, didn’t feel cold. Rather, it carried a subtle, ethereal detachment.

“Hello, I'm Su Qiuzhi.” She smiled, her eyes and brows captivating, her voice sweet and clear.

“I'm Mu Wan.” Mu Wan greeted her with a smile as well. “Your voice is truly lovely.”

“Qiuzi is a news anchor,” Xu Xingkong, familiar with both women, offered a brief introduction. “Wanwan is an actress.”

After exchanging nods, they settled into conversation.

The three chatted casually, rarely touching on men. Each had her own career, so their talk centered on work and life—independent and thoughtful.

Later, the conversation drifted to pregnancy. Xu Xingkong shared her experiences, and Mu Wan listened attentively. Su Qiuzi, sitting nearby, wasn’t left out either. She occasionally asked a question or two.

Among the three, she and He Yu had married the earliest, yet they seemed to have no plans for children. The questions she asked were quite specific, suggesting she might not intend to have children with He Yu.

But whether to have children was a personal choice, and there was nothing to criticize about that.

As the three were talking, footsteps sounded from the staircase. Liu Qianxiu came up first, followed by Huai Jing and He Yu.

“Finished?” Mu Wan asked.

As the air grew cooler, Liu Qianxiu draped a handkerchief over her shoulders and replied, “Yes, Yao Zhi is seeing them off.”

“Then I should go downstairs,” Mu Wan said.

“No need.” Liu Qianxiu steadied her shoulders, gazing down at her softly. “Yao Zhi is attending to the guests. I'll take you to rest.”

Since she didn’t need to worry, she wouldn’t. She bid farewell to Xu Xingkong and the others. Xu Xingkong, being far along in her pregnancy, was inconvenienced by her large belly. Huai Jing supported her as they descended the stairs first.

Behind them, He Yu and Su Qiuzhi also made their way down.

The Four Young Masters of Xia City shared many similarities: all born into prestigious families as heirs, bearing noble status, and boasting physiques and features truly one in a million.

Yet their auras differed distinctly. Liu Qianxiu exuded an ethereal, detached coolness. Huai Jing radiated an aristocratic, aloof elegance with a strong air of elite sophistication. while He Yu was refined and gentle, like a polished jade stone—smooth, lustrous, and warm.

He walked ahead, cautioning Su Qiuzǐ, “Be careful.”

Despite his warning, Su Qiuzǐ missed a step. Her body lurched forward, only to be caught securely by the man.

Their bodies touched. Su Qiuzǐ flushed slightly, scrambling to her feet. She murmured, “I'm sorry.”

As they separated, Su Qiuzǐ lowered her head, carefully watching her step down the stairs. He Yu watched her, a hint of resignation flickering in his gentle eyes. Tall and long-legged, he caught up to her in two or three strides and took her hand. Su Qiuzǐ instinctively tried to pull away, but his palm was warm and firm. He guided her, reminding her, “Hold my hand.”

Her hand paused slightly before softly replying, “Okay.”

As the two walked ahead, Mu Wan caught glimpses of them from behind but quickly averted her gaze. She sensed something off—He Yu and Su Qiuzi didn’t quite seem like a married couple.

He Yu was the proactive one, while Su Qiuzi seemed somewhat withdrawn. Yet He Yu was gentle yet commanding, and Su Qiuzi quietly complied.

She didn’t probe further. Other couples had their own ways of handling matters. Outsiders shouldn’t interfere, much less gawk.

Liu Qianxiu and Mu Wan stayed at the Liu residence. The mansion’s decor carried a distinct antique flair. Judging by the antique artifacts and cultural relics scattered throughout Liu Qianxiu’s home, the mansion likely followed a similar theme.

After bathing, Mu Wan climbed into bed. With the engagement banquet over, she finally felt relief. As she drifted off to sleep, Liu Qianxiu, freshly bathed, climbed into bed behind her.

The moment he lay down, he naturally pulled her close.

Though the surroundings were unfamiliar, with Liu Qianxiu by her side, Mu Wan found the place strangely comforting. She turned, nestling into his embrace, and murmured,

“Finally done with all the work.”

She wasn’t actually tired. She just felt certain things needed to be completed before she could fully relax.

Liu Qianxiu held her close, gently brushing her hair aside to reveal a small, adorable ear. The ear was pale and delicate. He pinched it lightly, causing it to flush a faint pink.

“Not yet,” Liu Qianxiu replied.

“Hmm.” Her ear tickled from his touch. Mu Wan raised her hand to brush her earlobe, looking up at him and asking, “What else?”

He leaned down and kissed the corner of her lips. “Tomorrow, I'll take you to look at wedding dresses.”

With the engagement settled, it was time to focus on wedding preparations.

The wedding dress had been designed last week by a tailor based on Mu Wan’s preferences, as requested by Liu Qianxiu. The intricate design required extensive handcrafting, making the customization time-consuming. However, the Liu family had arranged for expedited completion. Liu Qianxiu planned to take Mu Wan to see it tomorrow. If she didn’t like it, they could have it remade.

Mu Wan returned his kiss, smiling as she asked, “Is the dress beautiful?”

“Yes,” Liu Qianxiu replied. “You'll look beautiful in it, of course.”

Mu Wan laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck. Tilting her head back, her dark eyes fixed on him, her voice sweet and husky.

“I'm prettier without it.”

The room lights remained on. Every movement of hers was reflected in the man’s eyes. After speaking, her tongue instinctively licked her lower lip, the corners of her eyes crinkling downward like a kitten wagging its tail.

Liu Qianxiu captured her lips with a kiss that was anything but refined, betraying no trace of his supposed self-restraint. Mu Wan returned the kiss with a smile, her breath gradually becoming ragged.

He kissed her, slowly unlocking her defenses, his dark eyes swirling with desire.

“Let me see you without it first.”

“Inch by inch, I won't let a single part of you escape.”

Mu Wan drew a deep breath, her fingers digging into his back.

Incurable Chapter 56 Part 1

After spending a day at the Mei residence, Mrs. Mei’s classmate departed for another city. Mu Wan wrapped up filming early and went to the hospital to find Liu Qianxiu. After his shift ended, they drove together to the Mei residence.

The Mei residence still radiated a warm and harmonious atmosphere. As soon as Mu Wan entered, Mrs. Mei called her over, and she was happy to keep the elderly woman company. Once everyone was gathered, the housekeeper announced dinner, and the family moved to the dining table.

The table was laden with a variety of light dishes, and Mu Wan’s plate was filled with her favorites. As she sat down, Mrs. Mei smiled and said to Mu Wan, “Your grandmother instructed the kitchen early on to prepare something delicious and nutritious for Wanwan.”

This genuine care touched Mu Wan deeply. She smiled at Old Lady Mei and said, “Thank you, Grandma.”

“Don't mention it,” Old Lady Mei replied nonchalantly, her face beaming with kindness. “You're carrying a child now, so naturally you come first. Did you hear that, Qianxiu?”

Liu Qianxiu sat beside Mu Wan, carefully removing fish bones from her plate. When the conversation turned to him, he lifted his gaze with a faint smile and replied, “I heard you.”

Laughter rippled across the table once more.

The atmosphere in the Mei household was always this warm and harmonious, free from rigid formalities. Mu Wan cherished the Mei family and relished the feeling of belonging here.

The meal unfolded in perfect harmony. After dinner, the family headed to the card and mahjong room as usual. Mei Yaozhi brought over red wine again. The family sipped their wine while Mu Wan drank grape juice. She wasn’t particularly fond of red wine, but the grape juice—tart and sweet—was quite delicious.

As they shuffled mahjong tiles, they discussed the engagement arrangements.

“Will the engagement banquet be at the Liu residence?” Grandma Mei asked, fingering a mahjong tile.

Liu Qianxiu, seated behind Mu Wan, helped arrange the tiles in her hand before looking up to reply, “Yes, the butler is already preparing it.”

Mei Yaozhi, seated beside Grandma Mei, glanced at the tiles on the table and said, “We're planning a small gathering. Just friends and relatives. You know Qianxiu, Grandma. He definitely won't make it too grand.”

As soon as he finished, Mu Wan giggled softly. Her laughter was quiet, her lips curving upward, her eyes crinkling at the corners. Only Liu Qianxiu beside her could hear and see it.

He reached over and pinched her ear, signaling for an explanation of her sudden laughter. Mu Wan tilted her head up to look at him, smiling mischievously but refusing to say a word. After a moment, she turned back to continue shuffling the cards.

Truthfully, she’d just recalled seeing the proceedings of an engagement banquet during filming. The couple has to give speeches and make toasts. Imagining Liu Qianxiu doing that felt utterly out of character for him.

In Mu Wan’s mind, he had always been the type of master who remained hidden from the world. He didn’t need to be in the spotlight. He could orchestrate everything from behind the scenes, controlling the entire process.

To outsiders, the couple’s little gestures looked like pure sweetness. Grandma Mei grew happier the more she watched, especially pleased that Liu Qianxiu had found his own love. After all, his parents’ love had been so flawed, she’d feared it might affect him.

In truth, it hadn’t affected him at all. His character and integrity were unmatched. Not just compared to Liu Fengmian, but surpassing most men. And Mu Wan was genuinely adorable. They were a perfect match.

The rest of the time was spent playing mahjong, finalizing the guest list, and arranging the engagement banquet details. The two hours passed in relaxed, pleasant ease.

After the mahjong game ended, Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu naturally stayed at the Mei residence. Returning to their room, they showered, and afterward, Mu Wan instinctively burrowed into his embrace.

“I'll notify my friends tomorrow, right? It's next week, correct?” Mu Wan murmured sleepily, clinging to Liu Qianxiu.

She hadn’t slept at noon and had filmed in the afternoon, so she was genuinely tired now. Liu Qianxiu gently soothed her, kissed her lips, and nodded in agreement.

Mu Wan nuzzled against him like a puppy a couple of times before quickly drifting off into peaceful sleep.

Liu Qianxiu had to work that morning, so he’d already left by the time Mu Wan woke up. After climbing out of bed, she first went to greet Old Lady Mei and the others.

The Mei family split their breakfast into two groups: those heading to work and those who didn’t need to. Mu Wan ate breakfast with the non-working group, chatted with Old Lady Mei and the others for a while, then had Uncle Li drive her to the southern district.

It was only ten in the morning, nearing October. The coastal air had grown crisp and clear, and the sea breeze felt especially refreshing. Mu Wan pressed the doorbell at the entrance. Lin Wei came to open it, and upon seeing her, she eagerly ran over to unlock the door.

“Why didn't you let me know you were coming?” Lin Wei asked as she ushered Mu Wan inside.

“I figured you'd be home anyway,” Mu Wan replied with a smile.

True enough. Lin Wei used to visit building material markets and newly renovated homes to check progress, but she no longer did those trips. After all, those environments posed a risk of fetal pollution. She’d delegated those tasks to her staff and now focused solely on design work at the studio.

After greeting the studio team downstairs, Mu Wan and Lin Wei headed upstairs.

Before Mu Wan arrived, Lin Wei hadn’t come downstairs either, instead having breakfast upstairs. The table held small wontons, steamed buns, and millet porridge, along with several homemade-looking side dishes.

The two sat down at the table. Lin Wei asked, “Want some? Lu Feng made it.”

Who knew Lu Feng could cook, and quite well at that. Mu Wan shook her head. “I already ate.”

Her gaze never left the table as she remarked, “Your taste has mellowed, hasn't it?”

“I have to,” Lin Wei replied with a hint of exasperation. “He nags me all day long, like a broken record. It's driving me crazy. To stop him from nagging, I just have to obey.”

Though her words carried complaint, Lin Wei’s eyes sparkled with affection and amusement.

Muwan couldn’t help but smile at the sight. “You seem to be enjoying it. Imagine if your mom found out that the eating habits she nagged you about changing for years were finally altered by a fiancé you've known less than a month. What would she think?”

“Hmph.” Lin Wei chuckled twice and said, “She should calm down about me getting pregnant before marriage first.”

“Are your parents upset?” Mu Wan asked seriously.

“Of course they are. They said I never think about the consequences.” Lin Wei ate her wontons, propping her hands on the chair and mimicking her mother’s scolding tone with Mu Wan. After imitating it, she couldn’t help but laugh. Turning back to her meal, she cheerfully added, “But my parents are coming in a few days. They want to meet Lu Feng, and his parents are coming too.”

Lin Wei had truly walked a tightrope this time, but thankfully, the outcome was favorable. Lu Feng was an actor with a decent income. His family ran a business, so their financial situation was solid—a good match for Lin Wei. Though Lu Feng had been raised as a second-generation rich kid, he wasn’t spoiled. He had a gentle temperament and sometimes even displayed a charmingly naive sweetness. He could cook, give massages, and while his taste in aesthetics sometimes bordered on straight-guy sensibilities, Lin Wei adored him in every other way.

Her parents had been upset at first, but after seeing Lu Feng on video and researching his family background, they were actually quite pleased with this potential son-in-law. Besides, Lin Wei had partied hard for so many years. Now that she’d finally met someone and they were planning to marry, it felt like a match made in heaven.

Thinking of this, Lin Wei looked up at Mu Wan and asked, “What about you? Where are you two at?”

Mu Wan had no relatives or family except for Wu Ma, so she probably didn’t need to meet her parents either. She’d been proposed to a few days ago, so the next steps would likely be to slowly prepare for the engagement and wedding.

“Engagement next week.” Mu Wan said. “I came to tell you that. Bring Lu Feng along when you come.”

Lin Wei spat out a bite of hot dumpling in shock, staring at Mu Wan. “Next week? That's way too fast!”

“Liu Qianxiu and I already got our marriage certificate.” Mu Wan smiled and added, “Yesterday.”

Lin Wei: “......”

Seeing Lin Wei’s expression, Mu Wan’s smile grew wider. “You were even faster than me,” she remarked.

“Our speed was due to unexpected circumstances,” Lin Wei explained. “But you two—getting to know each other, falling in love, becoming close, proposing, and getting engaged—you skipped none of the steps couples take. You completed it all in less than three months.”

Truthfully, Mu Wan hadn’t really counted the days. Her relationship with Liu Qianxiu had been a slow, steady flow—natural and effortless. Even now, she felt as if she’d been living with him for an eternity. They seemed inseparable, their bodies and souls perfectly attuned. Aside from the time Liu Qianxiu faked his death, nothing else had ever happened between them—only sweetness and tenderness.

After hearing this, Lin Wei sighed with emotion. “You two just found the right person, didn't you? Many couples need time to get to know each other and adjust, but with you, the longer you're together, the more perfectly suited you feel for each other.”

“Not entirely,” Mu Wan replied. “We're compatible most of the time, but when it comes to the parts where we don't...” She paused. “He's always been the one adapting to me.”

Liu Qianxiu was usually quiet and reserved, but when it came to accommodating others, he was incredibly considerate. Lin Wei still remembered the words Liu Qianxiu had once shared with her.

In the end, as long as they were happy, that was what mattered. Whether it was Lin Wei or herself, Mu Wan felt it was all quite beautiful.

After dinner, Mu Wan joined Lin Wei on the sofa. The laptop on the table was still open. They sat down on the carpet, leaning their backs against the sofa, and Mu Wan spotted the design blueprint.

“A nursery?” Mu Wan smiled. The blueprint showed Lin Wei’s design for a baby’s room.

“Yep,” Lin Wei nodded. “Designing it now means by the time it's finished, the baby will be here.”

She finished with a laugh, “We don't know the gender yet, so I'm preparing for both. Lu Feng likes girls, I like boys—I'm determined to have both.”

Mentioning this, she turned to ask Mu Wan, “What about you? Do you and Master Liu prefer a boy or a girl?”

The question of the child’s gender was something the two of them had never discussed. For Mu Wan, a boy or a girl was all the same—she liked both equally.

“I'm fine with either,” Mu Wan replied. “I wonder if Liu Qianxiu prefers a boy or a girl.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 605

~ TO WHAT EXTENT CAN IT BE CURED? ~

Yue Wang closed the book in his hands. “Yao’er, in my opinion, the Li family must have discovered issues with Qiming’s identity. But he shouldn’t be in immediate danger—they likely intend to use Yi Bao Xuan to divert suspicion and even criminal charges away from their iron trade.”

“Such grave charges would crush Yi Bao Xuan.” No matter how renowned, it was ultimately just a merchant establishment.

“But what about Ni Yun Fang and Bu Xian Lou? What about you and me? What about the Grand Princess Yi Dde herself?”

Mu Yunyao shuddered violently, waves of regret washing over her in an instant: “It’s all my fault. Things have gone too smoothly all along. I only thought of Qi Ming as the most suitable candidate to infiltrate Ling Wang’s inner circle for intelligence, forgetting entirely to consider the Li family’s presence. Li Qingzhou has stood unshaken in the court for years. He’s no ordinary man. Others might not uncover it, but he could see through the connection between Yi Bao Xuan and Ni Yun Fang. If this matter truly implicates my maternal grandmother, I...”
“Yao’er,” Yue Wang grasped her hand, his voice soothing. “ I’m merely speculating. It may not be accurate. Besides, even if my guess proves correct, shifting the blame won’t be simple. Iron trafficking involves too many layers. Neither the Imperial Aunt nor we are easily manipulated. The Li family fears being exposed outright, so they’ll need ample time to prepare. Now, it’s a race to see who can act first.”

Mu Yunyao drew a deep breath, repeatedly reminding herself that this was not her past life. Even if she made a mistake, she now had the chance to correct it. After a long moment, her wildly beating heart gradually calmed. A steely resolve then surged in her eyes: “Fourth Master is right. This is a game of strategy. Whoever survives to the end depends on how each move is played.”
“Yao’er, inform Imperial Aunt of this matter first. Let her prepare herself mentally. The Li family has already challenged Imperial Aunt’s authority. Fearing our retaliation, they will undoubtedly keep a close watch on the Palace’s movements from now on. Since your movements are restricted, inform me of any developments. My actions will draw less attention. As for Yi Bao Xuan, cease all contact for now. Should the Li family succeed at a critical juncture, abandon Yi Bao Xuan decisively. It’s merely a financial loss. Nothing that will cripple us.”

“Understood.”

Mu Yunyao returned to Yuhua Palace with a heavy heart. As soon as she entered, Poisonous Lady led her to a side hall. “Why did you leave the Palace today? It’s been quite the commotion outside. Imperial Concubine Li has fallen from grace.”

“Imperial Concubine Li? What happened to her?”

“Haven’t you noticed Imperial Concubine Li has been constantly making life difficult for Imperial Concubine Qi lately? Today, some Imperial Concubine Wu went to Imperial Concubine Li to complain. She claimed the fabrics delivered to her were defective and accused the attending maids of being negligent, even suggesting they had stolen something. Thinking she’d found evidence against Imperial Concubine Qi, Imperial Concubine Li confronted her. When interrogated, the girl stubbornly denied everything. Imperial Concubine Wu insisted something was missing, so they searched the Palace. They didn’t find the lost item, but they did discover powdered false pregnancy herb.”

“False pregnancy herb? Isn’t that Imperial Concubine Li’s method?”

“Yes. The powder was found in a roll of fabric. Imperial Concubine Wu claimed the fabric was a gift from Imperial Concubine Li, who naturally denied it. The matter escalated to the Emperor, leading to a full-scale search of the harem. That’s when Imperial Concubine Li was brought down.” The Poisonous Lady summarized the events with a particularly bright smile.

Mu Yunyao felt puzzled. “Why do I sense you’re unusually pleased?”

“Hehe, I’ll let you in on a secret—this whole affair was orchestrated by the Grand Princess. The false pregnancy herb powder found with Imperial Concubine Wu was provided by me. The Grand Princess even praised me for it!”

Mu Yunyao chuckled softly: “That truly is remarkable!”

“Of course it is. By the way, weren’t you supposed to leave the Palace to inspect your wedding dress? How’s the preparation going?”

“Many embroiderers are assisting, so it’s progressing smoothly. Oh, and could you do me a favor?”

The Poisonous Lady walked to the desk, poured a cup of tea, and handed it over. “Go on, tell me.”

“I want to find someone to treat Jin Wang?”

“Sure thing. How close to death should we get him?” The Poisonous Lady nodded readily.

Mu Yunyao nearly choked on her tea: “Not to kill him. It just temporarily cured him. I want to use him for something.”

“He’s crippled like that? What use is he?” The Poisonous Lady curled her lip, holding no sympathy for the man who’d blown up the riverbank without a thought for the people’s lives.

“Used right, he might surprise us.”

“Fine then. Treat him well for now. Once you’re done using him, I’ll have them finish him off.”

Mu Yunyao couldn’t help but smile slightly. “Agreed.” After speaking, she glanced at the medicine bottle she’d placed nearby. “What are you researching now?”

“Oh, that’s leftover False Pregnancy Herb. Do you need it? Take it if you want. It’s quite effective for punishing a person or two. If you don’t need it, it can still make you more beautiful.”

False pregnancy herb can indeed make a woman more beautiful, but the process is too long and comes with pregnancy-like symptoms. Just thinking about it made her stomach turn. “I’ll pass.” The idea of accumulating impurities and stagnant blood within her body like pregnancy, only to expel it all after nine months, was simply too much to bear.

“I’ve heard many noblewomen in the Northern Frontier use False Pregnancy Herb. It’s extremely rare. Most people can’t even get their hands on it. And here you are, wasting it.”

“Wait,” Mu Yunyao’s heart seized as a chill ran down her spine. She snatched the vial containing the false pregnancy herb powder and clutched it tightly. “This herb is scarce even in the Northern Frontier, usually hoarded by noblewomen, right?”

“Yes, why do you suddenly ask?”

“I’ve been puzzled why Imperial Concubine Li possesses false pregnancy grass.” When the imperial physician diagnosed Su Yuyi earlier, he mentioned that this herb came from the Northern Frontier. She hadn’t paid much attention then. After all, the Li family wielded considerable influence, making it easy for them to obtain such herbs. But now, learning of the Li family’s extraordinary ties to the Northern Frontier royal clan, this herb took on a whole new meaning.

“False pregnancy herb is rare, but it can be obtained through certain channels. Nothing unusual about that.” The Poisonous Lady refilled Mu Yunyao’s teacup. “What’s the matter? Planning to use this against the Li family?”

“No, that’s too far-fetched based on this alone. We’ll investigate thoroughly first.”

“Right. I’ve already sent people to investigate Li Qingzhou’s sons, but it’ll take time to uncover everything. Matters like this are usually kept extremely secret. To probe thoroughly without alerting the Li family requires extraordinary caution.”

Mu Yunyao nodded. “Understood. No rush for now. By the way, now that the false pregnancy herb has been identified, how does His Majesty intend to deal with The Imperial Concubine Li?”

“That’s still unclear. They’re still interrogating some palace maids. But with Her Highness Grand Princess involved, the Li family won’t have it easy.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 604

~ EXPOSED ~

Yue Wang pondered deeply: “That is indeed a solution, but would Ling Wang and the Li family believe that Jin Wang still harbors ambitions? After all, his current state...”

Mu Yunyao blinked: “Jin Wang’s legs and eyes aren’t beyond cure. I’ll have the Poisonous Lady find a trustworthy person to infiltrate his inner circle and assist with his leg and eye treatments. As long as there’s hope for recovery, given Jin Wang’s temperament and character, he won’t accept defeat so easily. Even if he doesn’t compete for the throne, he’ll find ways to exact revenge.”

Yue Wang pondered for a long moment before nodding in agreement. “Very well, so be it. But Yao’er, this task may seem simple, yet its execution is exceedingly tricky. Neither Jin Wang, the Li family, nor Ling Wang is an ordinary man. The slightest misstep could alert them to something amiss, and it might well backfire. Therefore, utmost caution is required. The selection of personnel must be calculated. Anyone with even a shred of doubt must be excluded.
Additionally, we need constant monitoring of our arrangements. Any changes must be made immediately. We absolutely cannot force things.”

Mu Yunyao nodded.

“Rest assured, Fourth Master. I’ll think it through carefully and consult with you whenever necessary.”

“Hmm. Yao’er, do not fret too much. If all else fails, we can still employ the method I mentioned earlier. I will discuss it with Second Imperial Brother and instruct him to keep a watchful eye on the Li family. Should anything go awry, or should there be any upheaval in the Northern Frontier, our Dali Dynasty may prioritize stability, but we are not afraid of a fight.”

Mu Yunyao nodded, a reassuring smile touching her lips. “Very well.”

By the time they finished speaking, the carriage had pulled up before the gates of Ni Yun Fang.

Yue Wang helped Mu Yunyao down from the carriage, where Liu Liang was already waiting at the entrance.

“My lady.”

“Liu Liang, let’s discuss this inside.” Mu Yunyao hurried into Ni Yun Fang. “What’s the latest on Qiming?”

Liu Liang shook his head. “After the message was sent, we lost all contact with Qiming.”

Mu Yunyao’s brows furrowed. “Before he went to Ling Wang’s side, we agreed that if anything went wrong, he should prioritize his own safety above all else. The intelligence he delivered this time is crucial. There’s no need for him to continue risking himself. Send him the signal—tell him to withdraw immediately. I won’t tolerate him facing any danger.”

“I’ve already sent the signal, but Qiming hasn’t responded. I suspect he’s been exposed,” Liu Liang’s tone grew somber.

Mu Yunyao’s heart sank. After a moment’s thought, she spoke coldly, “Wei Jiu, has the Li family deployed any personnel?”

Wei Jiu materialized abruptly, kneeling to report: “Miss, we have personnel, but their understanding of the Li family’s internal affairs is limited. Further investigation is required.”

“Dispatch additional agents to monitor the Li family closely. Liu Liang, hand Qi Ming’s portrait to Wei Jiu. I will have him arrange for Qi Ming’s rescue.”

“Miss, when entering Ling Wang’s residence, Qiming understood the stakes. Even if captured, he would never betray you. Now that you intend to confront the Li family, if necessary, consider sacrificing him.” Liu Liang’s expression remained impassive, as if discussing a trivial matter.

Mu Yunyao paused, then shook her head. “Liu Liang, strictly speaking, Qi Ming is your subordinate. I didn’t know your true identity, nor why he followed you, but all this time, he’s been utterly loyal and accomplished remarkable feats. Both professionally and personally, I cannot abandon him like this.”

Liu Liang bowed his head, his eyes hollow and desolate. “No. I am Miss’s servant, and so is Qiming. Miss has the right to decide our fate. Not only him—this servant is also willing to sacrifice his life for Miss at any moment.”

Yue Wang lifted his gaze, his eyes sweeping intently over Liu Liang. An inexplicable emotion flashed rapidly in his eyes, but he remained silent.

Mu Yunyao opened her mouth, knowing she couldn’t change Liu Liang’s resolve. She could only say no more: “Very well. I’ve decided to rescue Qiming. Neither his life nor yours will be easily forsaken. Liu Liang, make discreet arrangements. Exercise utmost caution. If the Li family truly captured Qi Ming, they would spare his life for interrogation, then watch for any rescue attempts to uncover his true identity. Therefore, we absolutely must not arouse their suspicion or draw attention to ourselves.”

“Understood, Miss. Rest assured, I’ll coordinate with Wei Jiu’s operations.”

“Good.”

Just as Liu Liang was about to withdraw, Mu Yunyao suddenly recalled something: “What’s the current status of Yi Bao Xuan?”

“Yi Bao Xuan is operating normally. Word is they’ve even expanded several branches.”

“Compile a recent status report on Yi Bao Xuan. If Qi Ming truly met with misfortune, Yi Bao Xuan shouldn’t be this calm.” If Qi Ming is unharmed but currently unable to relay messages, her hasty dispatch of personnel might indeed alert the enemy.

“All records concerning Yi Bao Xuanare are archived. I’ll retrieve them immediately.”

After Liu Liang went to fetch the records, Yue Wang spoke up: “Yao’er, you certainly got your money’s worth with this subordinate. Such talent acquired for merely six taels of silver.”

“Acquiring him was pure coincidence, and the name Liu Liang was chosen on a whim. I never imagined his nature would be so unyielding. Such steadfastness is exceedingly rare—truly invaluable.” In this world of restless ambition, where everyone scrambles to climb higher, someone who stays loyal by her side for just six taels of silver—such steadfast commitment is truly admirable.

“Indeed. Possessing profound martial arts skills, commanding trustworthy subordinates, and carrying himself with unique grace—such a man should be extraordinary wherever he goes.”

“Fourth Master, why this sudden interest in Liu Liang?” Yue Wang had seen Liu Liang before, but had never delved deeper.

“Nothing much, just a passing thought. Yao’er, you needn’t concern yourself.”

Mu Yunyao wanted to say something, but Liu Liang, who had gone to fetch the ledger, had already returned. She swallowed her words, took the ledger, and began to scrutinize it. The more she looked, the deeper the frown between her brows grew. “Fourth Master, take a look.”

“Yi Bao Xuan has opened a branch in Heilongjiang.”

“Yes. I’ve been too busy lately to pay attention to Yi Bao Xuan. I had no idea they’d even established a storefront in Heilongjiang.”

A cold gleam flashed in Yue Wang’s eyes. “I recall you mentioning that Yi Bao Xuan’s founding purpose was to undermine Ni Yun Fang?”

“Correct. Every Yi Bao Xuan branch was established near Ni Yun Fang, precisely to leverage its reputation and rapidly expand our business.”

“I recall there is no Ni Yun Fang in Heilongjiang.”

Mu Yunyao nodded. Ni Yun Fang prioritized steady growth, as training embroiderers required time. Their expansion was deliberate and deliberate. It was unlikely they had even taught embroidery techniques in Heilongjiang, let alone opened a shop there. The sudden appearance of a Yi Bao Xuan branch was highly unusual.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 603

~ BETTER TO TAKE THE RISK AND GO FOR IT ~

The Emperor sighed and shook his head upon hearing this: “It is Imperial Father’s fault. I have always been unable to face you, so over the years I have shown you little concern. Later, I even exiled you to Western Guangdong. Junyue, it is only natural that you harbor resentment toward Imperial Father.” He owed this child too much, and now that he wished to make amends, time was running out. The very thought filled him with unbearable anguish.

“Imperial Father, when I was young, I couldn’t understand many things. But now that I’ve come of age, I see matters more clearly. To outsiders, Imperial Mother’s death was disgraceful. From the moment I was born, I bore the weight of that sin. Had you raised me by your side, the families of the princes who were murdered would never have spared me. Though life in the Cold Palace was lonely, it preserved my life. When I fell gravely ill at twelve, you intended to bring me out of the Cold Palace. Yet at that time, Yunrou invaded our borders, and the court was in turmoil. Your attention was elsewhere, and pressure from certain ministers forced you to grant me a fief in Western Guangdong. I understand your painstaking efforts and the difficulties you faced. I only regret my youthful ignorance for not realizing this sooner.”

Ning Junyue had always been reserved and quiet, preferring action over words. This sudden outpouring of heartfelt sentiment made his sincerity all the more precious and moving.

The Emperor's eyes welled up with tears. “Junyue, your understanding brings me great comfort. Now that you’ve grown up and gained the strength to protect yourself, you may live the life you choose.”

“Imperial Father, I was foolish before and seldom returned to keep you company. Now that I’ve come to understand, I wish to stay in the Palace longer, to properly accompany you and fulfill my filial duty as your Son.”

“Very well. The Palace is your home. Stay as long as you wish. I shall instruct Xu Li to have your residence, Qinhui Hall, thoroughly cleaned and refurbished. See if there are any familiar belongings outside the Palace you wish to bring in.”

“This Son thanks Your Majesty. Imperial Father, please rest well. If the memorials become too overwhelming, let Second Imperial Brother assist you. He is wiser than I and handles matters with thoroughness.“

The Emperor couldn’t help but chuckle. ”Were I not familiar with your nature, I might have thought you came to help Your Second Imperial Brother seize power.“

”Imperial Father, I only worry for your health, burdened as you are with so many memorials. I mean nothing else.”

“Imperial Father knows you’re too straightforward —a flaw in your character, yet also a rare and valuable quality. Well, what has passed cannot be undone. Dwelling on it serves no purpose. Return and eat well. Have Yunyao care for you diligently. I have already instructed the Imperial Astronomical Bureau to select an auspicious date. After the New Year, on the eighteenth day of the first lunar month following your birthday—when all matters are favorable—you shall wed.”

Yue Wang’s eyes brimmed with deeper delight. “Yes, Your Majesty. This Son thanks you.”

After Yue Wang withdrew from the hall, the Emperor couldn’t help but sigh. He drew a scroll from a jade box in his desk drawer and slowly unrolled it. With cautious movements, he gently touched the painting of the woman smiling radiantly, his eyes softening infinitely. “Ruo’er, Junyue has grown up. He is about to marry. Are you pleased?”

At Ni Yun Fang, preparations for Mu Yunyao’s wedding dress were in full swing. Meanwhile, fresh news arrived from Jiangnan.

Wei Jiu handed Mu Yunyao the secret letter delivered by Liu Liang: “Miss, Liu Liang says this was smuggled out by Qi Ming. Please make a decision quickly.”

After reading the contents, Mu Yunyao’s brows furrowed sharply. “Jin Lan, help me change my clothes. I must leave the Palace. Jin Qiao, inform His Royal Highness Yue Wang to accompany me. Tell him we’re going to Ni Yun Fang to check on the wedding preparations.”

“Yes, Ma'am.”

At the Palace gates, the two boarded the carriage together.

Noticing her gloomy mood, Yue Wang inquired, “Yao’er, you look troubled. Has something happened with the Li family?”

“Your Highness, please look,” Mu Yunyao handed the letter Liu Liang had delivered to Prince Yue. “Qi Ming Adventure reports that the Li family has connections with the royal family of the Northern Frontier.”

“The Northern Frontier royal family?”

“I never imagined it. I’d always thought the Li family merely traded iron goods to amass wealth and expand their influence. But if they’re connected to royalty, this is far from an ordinary matter.”

“We must proceed with utmost caution. The Li family’s power is already formidable. If they’ve allied with the Northern Frontier royal family, there could be even greater schemes brewing behind the scenes. For years, the Northern Frontier has been eyeing us greedily. If the Li family has truly aligned with them, we must secure control over everyone connected to the Li family. Who knows how deeply these individuals have been infiltrated?“

Seeing the grim expression on Yue Wang’s face, Mu Yunyao couldn’t help but offer comfort: “Fourth Master, perhaps we’re overthinking this. It might just be financial dealings without deeper involvement.”

But the Yue Wang’s heart held no such optimism: “I’ll have them investigate further. Western Guangdong is very close to the Northern Frontier, and any movement there can be detected immediately. What we must do now is sever the Li family’s ties with the Northern Frontier. Every sword or blade the Li family sells to the Northern Frontier means one more soldier of our Great Li Kingdom might die on the battlefield. Such actions absolutely cannot be tolerated.”

“What course of action does Your Royal Highness propose?”

“Open confrontation is too slow. The Li family is cautious and vigilant, so evidence is hard to come by. Better to strike in the shadows. I’ll have men track down their merchant caravans, mineral operations, and ironworking craftsmen—then uproot them completely!”

Mu Yunyao pondered for a moment. “Your Royal Highness, while this is a sound approach, I can’t help feeling it’s too lenient on the Li family. Why not set them up instead?”

“Hmm, what do you propose?” The Yue Wang’s eyes lit up. Back when they had trapped the salt merchants, Yunyao had nearly bankrupted the Qiang family. If they could repeat that feat and make the Li family suffer a significant loss, it would be perfect.

“The Li family may deal in ironware, but at their core, they’re merchants. Since that’s the case, let’s strike a deal with them.”

“A business deal?”

“Exactly. Didn’t Steward Qin report news of a mineral vein discovered in Black Dragon City? We’ll sell that vein to them first.”

“The Li family is currently under intense scrutiny. Besides, their existing mines are already sufficient. They likely won’t be interested in purchasing more.”

“What if someone suddenly approached the Li family with a major deal?”

“Yao’er, are you suggesting we have someone pose as a merchant to negotiate with the Li family?”

“Not me. Li Qingzhou is exceptionally cautious. He’s secretly traded iron for years without ever revealing a single flaw—his composure is beyond ordinary men. If we send someone posing as a merchant, no matter how convincing they are, they’d likely spot the inconsistencies and grow suspicious. Better to use existing personnel.”

Yue Wang’s brow furrowed. After pondering for a moment, he suddenly lifted his eyes. “Jin Wang?”

“Precisely. Compared to Ling Wang, Jin Wang likely harbors the deepest hatred toward you, me, and Yu Wang. Moreover, we wouldn't have Jin Wang approach the Li family directly to discuss business. Instead, we'd have him find a way to contact the Northern Frontier people. If the Northern Frontier and the Li family are truly deeply involved, he will surely uncover information.”
