Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 328

~ UNDERSTAND THE CAUSE AND EFFECT ~

Su Qingwu had already made up his mind to send Su Yuyi back to the residence first, but seeing Mu Yunyao like this, he didn’t dare to take the risk. He was afraid that Mu Yunyao would get angry and make a move on the road in anger.

Su Yuyi felt that Yunyao’s words were pressing down on her internally and externally. She felt panicked in her heart for no reason, “If I’m not going back, then I won’t trouble little sister Yunyao to take care of me. You should take care of Aunt first.”

“Judging from Eldest Brother’s expression, he probably doesn’t plan to bring Eldest Sister back to the residence first. So, I can go back and take care of mother without worry.” After Mu Yunyao finished speaking, she turned around and went forward to support Su Qing. She then followed the Monk of Baohua Temple to the newly arranged room.

When they arrived at the newly arranged room, Mu Yunyao helped Su Qing to sit down. She then turned her head and instructed Si Shu at the side, “Go take a look where did Eldest Brother arrange Su Yuyi to rest?”

Su Qing hurriedly held onto Mu Yunyao’s hand. “Yao’er?”

Mu Yunyao raised her head with a smile on her face, but it didn’t have the usual pure warmth. Instead, it emitted an indescribable baleful aura. “Mother, you don’t need to worry. I know what I’m doing.”

Si Shu hurriedly nodded her head, got up, and walked outside.

Su Qing’s ankle was only slightly sprained, and it wasn’t that severe. It would be better to recuperate slowly for a while. What was more troublesome was her throat, which was burned by the smoke. She would probably have to suffer a little bit before she recovered.

Jin Wang sent a doctor to come over and sent someone to comfort her. Mu Yunyao didn’t refuse the doctor’s offer to help Su Qing treat her injuries. She waited until he had finished prescribing the medicine before she added a few more herbs. Then, she let Si Qin boil the medicine. Mu Yunyao purposely added some sleeping aid to the medicine, so Su Qing fell asleep not long after. Seeing that Su Qing was sleeping soundly, Mu Yunyao stood up and went to the outer room to sit down. Si Qin and Si Qin hurriedly went forward to kneel on the ground. Their faces were full of shame as they quietly waited for their punishment.

After a long time, Mu Yunyao finally spoke. “Tell me everything what happened tonight in full detail.”

“Yes, Miss.” Si Qin opened her mouth first. “After Miss went to help Grand Princess Yi copy the Buddhist scriptures, I accompanied Madam to drink some tea and snacks in the room. Afterward, she went to the prayer hall to chant the Buddhist scriptures and pray according to yesterday’s time. After a while, Miss Su said that her leg hurt, so Young Master asked her to go back. After about an hour later, while Si Cha and I were guarding outside, a monk suddenly appeared. He said that Miss was accidentally hurt by a bookcase in the Scripture Pavilion and asked me to help him. When the servant thought of Si Qi guarding Madam, I immediately rushed to the Scripture Pavilion. Afterward, Miss knew all about it.”

Mu Yunyao’s eyes seemed to be filled with ice crystals, the light in her eyes rippling yet filled with chilliness. “What about Liuliang? Isn’t he protecting you from the shadows?”

“This servant doesn’t know.”

Mu Yunyao remained silent, and the room immediately quietened down. After about a cup of tea, footsteps could be heard at the door. Si Hua went up to open the door and saw Liu Liang standing at the door.

Mu Yunyao raised her eyes, her gaze her eyes deep and unwavering. “Liu Liang, where have you been?”

Liu Liang walked into the room and knelt down, “Reporting to Mistress, I have been lured away and have fallen into an ambush. Cough cough....” As he said this, he couldn’t help but cough twice, and a small trickle of blood seeped out from the corner of his lips.

“With your skill, how many people’s ambush could injure you to such an extent?”

“A dozen or so lackeys, plus three inner sect experts.”

“What about those people?”

“Dead.”

Mu Yunyao’s eyes moved, “Have you cleaned up the corpses? Did you find any clues?”

“I’ve interrogated them to find out who they were. They told me that they were bribed, but they didn’t know who it was. They only said that the person had a mole on his brow. After being injured by me, those two experts from the inner sect experts saw that they had no way to escape, so they directly killed themselves without giving an explanation, and there was no obvious mark on their bodies....” As he said this, he couldn’t help but cough twice, and his face turned even paler. “Please punish me, Mistress.”

“Two inner sect experts....” Mu Yunyao slightly frowned. Those ten or so hooligans might have been ordered to be found by the Eldest Madam. But what about those two inner sect experts? Was he driven by the Eldest Madam, or was there someone else secretly interfering?

Si Shu also rushed back, “Reporting to Miss, this servant has found out where Eldest Miss Su is.”

Mu Yunyao nodded as she looked at the three people kneeling on the ground. “You three can stand up.”

Si Qin and Si Qi looked at each other, bit their lips, and kneeled on the ground without making a sound. Liu Liang did not have the slightest reaction and continued kneeling with his head down. Mu Yunyao looked at the three of them and spoke once again, “I believe that the three of you are loyal to Mother and me. I also know that this matter happened so suddenly and that you all did not intentionally cause this situation. Fortunately, Mother was fine and was only slightly injured. It’s just that a deliberate calculation of unintentional consequences. I just blame those enemies for being too mean.”

“Miss, please punish this servant. If you don’t punish this servant, then this servant’s heart will never be at peace.”

Mu Yunyao’s eyebrows moved as she lowered her eyes slightly, “Since that’s the case, then I’ll punish you with three months of wages. With this lesson, I believe that you won’t make the same mistake the next time. Liu Liang, your injuries are quite severe, go and take care of yourself, don’t leave any root of illness.”

Liu Liang raised his head and said with an uneasy look, “Mistress, Liu Liang should be punished...”

“What, all of you are starting to feel uneasy even though I’m not punishing you all?” Mu Yunyao let out a faint sigh as she faced him and said, “This is Baohua Temple. After listening to the Buddhist scriptures for the past few days, my heart is unavoidably a little bit more lenient. Your punishment is three months’ worth of wages, and also, if you don’t chase after them and kill them, those people may have tried to kill Mothe. You haven’t really done anything wrong. I can still tell the difference between right and wrong.”

“... Liu Liang thanks Mistress. “

“Get up. The smell of blood on your body is too strong. Go down and bandage your wound first. I will prescribe some medicine to restore internal strength and heal the wound. Someone will send it over to you later.”

“Thank you, Mistress.” He looked at Mu Yunyao and saw that she was safe and sound. Only then did the fear in his heart slowly dissipate.

He heard that in Baohua Temple, there was a big fire, and it was in Mu Yunyao’s room at that. He was flustered and was injured by someone while the enemy looked for an opening. He rushed back all the way, and his heart trembled with cold. When he confirmed that Mu Yunyao was safe, it gradually stabilized. This time, those people were targeting Madam, and some were secretly trying to save her. What if the next time those people attacked Madam, and no one happened to protect them? Just thinking of this result made him unable to accept it. It was as if his heart had returned to its previous empty state. Liu Liang gritted his teeth secretly and suppressed the blood in his chest several times. This was enough to teach him a lesson. He would never make the same mistake again!

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 327

~ YUE WANG SAVES PEOPLE ~

Mu Yunyao quietly stood there, trying her best to open her eyes wide so that she could clearly see the situation within the great fire. Her entire body was surrounded by a heavy wave of grief. At this time, she didn’t shed tears, but it suddenly occurred to people that there were words of Great Compassion and Silence. “Miss, please don’t do this. It’s all my fault. Iit’s all this servant’s fault....” Si Qin raised her hand and slapped herself twice. Previously, Miss clearly warned her that she couldn’t leave Madam’s side, but she was still too careless. She didn’t expect that such a thing happened just after she left for a short time.

Su Qingwu quickly walks to Mu Yunyao. As soon as he wants to say something, he sees Su Yuyi being helped by Qi Mama. She is pale, with tears on her face, and her skirt is dirty. She looks a little embarrassed: “Elder Brother.”

“Yuyi, are you injured?”

Su Yuyi shook her head, her tears falling non-stop: “My body isn’t feeling well, I wanted to rest in my room for a while, but when I was falling asleep, I smelled smoke. Luckily I woke up in time, and escaped while the fire was not getting bigger. Otherwise…… I won’t have a chance to see you, Elder Brother. “

“What about Aunt? Did you see her?”

“I didn’t notice. Did Aunt not escape?”

Mu Yunyao suddenly turned around, her cold gaze locked onto Su Yuyi’s body. The dense hostility in her gaze was like the edge of a blade, capable of cutting a person into a bloody mess.

After meeting Mu Yunyao’s gaze, Su Yuyi abruptly took two steps back. Just now, she almost thought that Mu Yunyao would cut open her throat, but after reacting, she became even more furious in her heart, “Cousin Yunyao, you must be sosad.”

“When did you leave the prayer hall?” Mu Yunyao’s voice was hoarse, and she spoke extremely slowly as if every word was squeezed out of her throat.

“I had not recovered from my previous illness. But today, I’ve knelt for another day. At night, I can’t bear it anymore, so Elder Brother, since he doted on me, asked me to come back early.”

“How long have you been back?”

“Cousin Yunyao, what is the meaning of this? Are you questioning me? “ Su Yuyi frowned.

The baleful aura around Mu Yunyao grew even stronger, “Answer me! How long have you been back?”

Su Yuyi originally didn’t want to answer, but under Mu Yunyao’s forceful gaze, his heart couldn’t help but tremble: “It’s been more than an hour. Is there a problem with that?”

Mu Yunyao tightly clenched her fist. Her palm was pierced through by a fingernail, and blood quickly flowed out. “Damn you....”

“Miss, look!” Si Qin and the others exclaimed. They hurriedly pulled Mu Yunyao to look to the west, “It’s Madam!”

Mu Yunyao suddenly trembled, and her lips couldn’t help but tremble. She tried twice before finally turning around and following the direction that Si Qin indicated. Her tears fell down.

Mother. It’s Mother!

The pressure around her body suddenly receded, and all kinds of noisy voices once again drifted to her ears. The moment she saw Su Qing, she felt that she had come back to life.

Si Qin hurriedly supported Mu Yunyao as they walked up to welcome her. “That’s great. Madam is fine!” As long as Madam was there, Miss would not reveal that frightening expression. Miss had always been serene and beautiful in front of Madam. They had always thought that this was the real appearance of Miss. However, just now, upon hearing the news that Madam might lose her life in the sea of fire, the aura around Miss suddenly changed. She was gloomy, cold, and angry, as if that the Shura hall is spreading out slowly...

Mu Yunyao rushed forward and suddenly hugged Su Qing. She opened her mouth a few times before hoarsely shouting out two words, “Mother....”

Su Qing hurriedly reached out to support her, but her body couldn’t help but sway for a bit. Fortunately, Si Qin has supported her from the side, so she didn’t fall to the ground. “Yao’er, cough cough .... It’s okay. Mother is fine. Don’t worry, cough....”

After a long while, Mu Yunyao finally relaxed. She anxiously looked at Su Qing and asked, “Mother, are you injured?”

Su Qing’s appearance was somewhat miserable. Her sleeves and skirt had traces of being burnt. Her arms were also wounded, and her feet were unsteady. “Don’t worry, cough cough … It isn’t a problem. I just accidentally sprained my leg. Cough cough.... I choked on two mouthfuls of smoke....”

“Mother, don’t say anything. I’ll hel you to sit down and rest for a while.”

“I am fine… But Young Master Ning... cough cough, he was injured … You...”

Mu Yunyao’s eyes trembled: “Yue... Fourth Master Ning, did he save Mother?”

“Ahem... Si Qi and I were trapped in the fire... The surrounding smoke was billowing, and the fire was too strong, so we can’t escape... Seeing that the house was about to burn down, it was Young Master Ning who rushed in and rescued Si Qi and me... He was accidentally injured when we came out. Now...” Su Qing throat was thick.

She choked the smoke badly. In the end, her voice was hoarse, and she could not make a sound.

Mu Yunyao hurriedly stepped forward to support her. “Mother, you don’t need to worry. Once we’ve settled you in, I’ll go visit Fourth Master Ning.”

At this moment, there were too many people around, so Mu Yunyao couldn’t afford to visit Yue Wang immediately. She could only wait for the others to disperse before doing so.

When Su Yuyi saw that Su Qing was okay, she opened her eyes wide, and a trace of resentment flashed across her heart: How could Su Qing escape with her life intact when the fire was already in such a state? How could she be so lucky?

When Su Qingwu previously heard Mu Yunyao interrogates Su Yuyi, she felt that something wasn’t right. Now that she had such an expression, his eyes suddenly turned cold: “Yuyi, you....”

Su Yuyi quickly came back to her senses. When she saw Su Qingwu’s gaze, she suddenly felt guilty. “Why is Elder Brother looking at me like that?”

“Since you are not feeling well, there is no need to continue praying. I will have someone prepare a carriage for you, so you can return home overnight.”

“Why?” Su Yuyi quickly shook her head, “There is still one more day tomorrow. I can still hold on.” The Grand Princess Yi De was still here. She hadn’t even seen anyone, so how could she be willing to return?

“Let’s head back to the residence first. There’s no need to ask so much.” Just now, Mu Yunyao’s expression was too frightening, causing Su Qingwu to feel unsettled. It was best if she sent Yuyi away first.

However, Su Yuyi was unwilling: “Elder Brother, look at my dirty skirt. It’s already so dark, and the way home is not easy. What if something happens to me? Isn’t Elder Brother worried?”

“I’ll have someone escort you. Nothing will happen.” Su Qingwu’s attitude was firm.

“Eldest Brother, why must you be in such a hurry?” Mu Yunyao walked over there at an unknown time, her pitch-black eyes glowing with a faint red light. In the darkness of the night, she gave off an indescribable feeling that made people feel somewhat demonic, her lips slightly raised upwards, but her smile didn’t reach the bottom of her eyes. “ It’s already so late. I heard those wild beasts would occasionally appear from time to time and hurt people in the vicinity. Even if there were no wild beasts, people’s hearts are unpredictable. Currently, everyone knew Eldest Sister’s reputation. If there was someone on the way … that’s hard to explain.”

Hearing Mu Yunyao’s words, Su Yuyi felt a chill in her heart, “Elder Brother, I’m not going back!”

“Qi Mama, Baohua Temple will arrange another place to live. You can take the Eldest Miss over to rest first.” Su Qing Wu looked at Mu Yunyao, and the light in his eyes became extremely profound. “Yunyao, Aunt and you were both frightened, so you should go back and rest at this time. If you have anything to say, you can talk about it in the future.”

“Thank you for your concern, Eldest Brother. Is Eldest Sister still going back?” Her gaze lightly landed on Su Yuyi’s body. Mu Yunyao blinked her eyes at an expressly quick speed. The curve of her lips deepened, but it was filled with a cold chill.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 326

~ UNPRECEDENTED FEAR ~

Seeing that Yue Wang didn’t say anything, Mu Yunyao didn’t bother with him anymore. She lightly flexed her wrist and continued to write the Buddhist scriptures.

The Scripture Pavilion was completely silent. Occasionally, there would be the sound of lights exploding, and a faint crackling sound could be heard.

Yue Wang sat to the side and looked at Mu Yunyao as she quietly copied down Buddhist scriptures. Her eyes were bright and clear, and her breath was calm. The strokes in her hands were especially meticulous, giving people a sense of safety as they watched from the side.

Mu Yunyao’s mind was completely immersed in the Buddhist scriptures, completely ignoring Yue Wang. She was in the middle of writing seriously when her heart suddenly skipped a beat. A burst of panic caused the brush in her hands to become unsteady, and a droplet of ink dripped onto the paper.

“Yunyao, what’s the matter with you?”

Mu Yunyao’s forehead wrinkled, and her fingers unconsciously touched her chest. “What time is it now?”

“It’s not that late yet, just around....”

Before Yue Wang could finish speaking, the door of the Scripture Pavilion was suddenly pushed open. Si Qin, whose head was covered with sweat, ran in quickly. Seeing that Mu Yunyao and Yue Wang were safe and sound, her face turned white: “Miss, are you alright?”

Hearing this, Mu Yunyao’s pupils constricted, and she fiercely stood up from the table. The brush in her hand landed on her pure white clothes and drew a long black ink mark, but she didn’t pay it any heed as she stumbled towards the entrance of the Scripture Pavilion.

Yue Wang’s expression froze as he quickly rushed over to Mu Yunyao and supported her shoulders. “Don’t be afraid!” Mu Yunyao didn’t even have time to react before he wrapped his arm around her waist, hugged her in his arms, and made his way quickly to the prayer hall.

Mu Yunyao tightly held onto the clothes covering Yue Wang’s chest, and her entire body slightly trembled as if it was a bowstring that had been pulled taut to the extreme and would break in the next second.

Just now, Si Qin came over in such a hurry and asked if she had anything wrong. Someone must have told her in advance that something had happened to her. She rushed over to check and realized that nothing had happened to her. It made her suddenly remember that this was a way to lure a tiger out of the mountain.

Some people wanted to move Si Qin and Si Qi away from Mother. Once Mother was alone, then...

Mu Yunyao’s fingers tightened. Because she had used too much strength, her fingers were covered in a blue-white glow.

As Yue Wang hurried over, he looked down at her. Seeing her this way, he felt as if his heart was being squeezed tight by someone.

As they approached the prayer hall, Yue Wang placed Mu Yunyao down.

Si Qin, who had followed her, quickly supported her and rushed into the hall. But only Su Qingwu, Su Yaxian, and the others were left in the hall. Su Yuyi and Su Qing were nowhere to be seen.

“Where’s my mother?”

Su Qingwu stood up. When he saw Yue Wang, who was following closely behind, his pupils shrank. Why would Yunyao be together with Yue Wang? “Why are you here in such a hurry?”

Mu Yunyao’s heart was in a complete panic as she grabbed onto Su Qingwu’s clothes, “Where’s my mother?”

“Aunt just returned to the room....” Su Qingwu furrowed his brows, noticing that there was something wrong with her expression. He was a little worried in his heart, “Yunyao, what happened?”

Mu Yunyao ignored him and turned around to walk out. Just as she walked out of the hall door, she heard the sound of a gong being knocked. The faint sounds of clamoring could be heard: “Find water!”

Mu Yunyao lost her balance, her legs went weak, and almost falling to the ground. Luckily, Si Qin had a quick reaction and supported her, “Miss!”

Mu Yunyao wants to run to the side room, but she feels that her legs are out of control. The more anxious she was, the more she couldn’t even take a step forward. Don’t panic, don’t panic, something might not happen, so after she tried to console herself several times in her heart, she turned her head to look for the figure of the Yue Wang, only to see that Yue Wang had already quickly moved towards the direction of the side room.

“Si Qin... Quick …”

Seeing Mu Yunyao’s expression, Su Qingwu suddenly reacted, “Yunyao, I’m going over to take a look now. It might not be aunty’s side.”

Si Qin holds Mu Yunyao to walk towards the side room quickly. While walking, she secretly scolded herself, “Blame it all on this servant. After hearing that Miss was in accident, I become flustered. Thinking that Madam would not be in any major incidents with Si Qi by her side, but I didn’t expect that this would be a diversion.”

Mu Yunyao didn’t pay any attention to Si Qin. At this time, all the sounds in her ears had already disappeared. She only wants to return to the room quickly. Perhaps all her guesses had been a false alarm, and her mother was fine. She is sitting in the side room waiting for her to come back with a smile.

A fiery light soared into the sky, dyeing half of the night sky red!

At this time of the year, the Capital was already dry and dusty. In addition, the wind at the Baohua Temple was so strong. With the help of wind, the fire flared, and sparks flew in all directions.

Many monks and pilgrims came to save the fire after hearing the news, but the fire was too big, so the water would not have much effect.

Looking at the room was surrounded by raging flames, Mu Yunyao tried her best to widen her eyes. Her voice was so hoarse that it could not be described, “Mother!”

Mu Yunyao pushed Si Qin away, her face devoid of blood. Her entire body was trembling like a sieve, but her steps were firm as she charged towards the burning room.

Su Qingwu hurriedly pulled her back. “I’ll send someone to put out the fire, but don’t be rash. Perhaps Aunt is not in the room.”

Mu Yunyao suddenly turned her head. The hatred in her eyes was like a tide, surging downwards as if it could drown someone out, “Let go of me!”

Su Qingwu’s heart trembled. It was just that the hatred in her eyes was too astonishing, as though she was an enemy that wouldn’t rest until he died. With just a glance, she was able to make him tremble, “Yunyao, calm down!”

Mu Yunyao reached out to pull off Su Qingwu’s hand, but she couldn’t find enough strength. In a state of emotional breakdown, she directly lifted her hand and fiercely bit onto the back of Su Qingwu’s hand. She mustered all her strength, and immediately after taking a bite, the smell of blood gushed out, causing her to be unable to suppress her urge to vomit.

Su Qingwu subconsciously loosened his grip. Her forehead furrowed, and he didn’t seem to care about his injuries at all. “Don’t move. I’ll go in and help you find someone.”

Mu Yunyao completely ignored him. After struggling free, she immediately rushed into the room.
“Miss!” Si Qin followed closely. Just as the two of them arrived at the door, the main beam of the side room burned and collapsed suddenly, which was red and roaring.

The house collapsed, there would be no more survivors!

Si Qin stepped forward to block Mu Yunyao’s path. “Miss, the house has collapsed, and we can’t enter!”
Mu Yunyao tried her best to open her eyes wide, and her pitch-black pupils covered in layers of blood-red light from the flames.

Si Qin quickly pulled her back and spoke with an uncontrollably trembling voice, “Miss, don’t scare me. Perhaps Madam isn’t inside. Maybe she is looking for you right everywhere now?”

Mu Yunyao didn’t have the slightest reaction. At this time, she couldn’t hear anything. She only feels that the whole figure has been immersed in an ice-cold pond and was unceasingly sinking. The ice-cold water poured into her mouth and nose, blocking all her breathing. No matter how hard she struggles, she will never see the sun again......

Incurable Chapter 27 Part 2

Chapter 27 (2/2)

When Liu Qianxiu returned home, it was already eleven.

Only the table lamp in the living room was still on. Beneath that single pool of light, a woman was curled over the low table.

Her slim body had folded into a small circle, and yet somehow seemed to fill the entire room.

She was sleeping deeply, her face pillowed on her arms, turned toward the living room—almost as though she had been staring toward the door while waiting for him, only to finally succumb to sleep.

Her hair draped over her shoulders.

Her small face beneath it was vivid and beautiful even in sleep. Her eyes were closed, her lashes casting a faint shadow along the lower lids, her whole expression peaceful and still.

Even from where he stood, Liu Qianxiu felt as though he could hear her breathing, even and slow.

She had really been waiting for him all this time.

And now that he had returned, he walked over to her.

Sleeping on the low table was not comfortable.

Mu Wan had only dozed lightly after waiting too long for him. She had not fallen fully asleep. From that shallow sleep, she sensed someone approaching. Her mind gradually cleared, and she opened her eyes.

The man stood by the table, looking down at her.

Mu Wan lifted her eyes and met the dark, limpid gaze fixed on her.

“You’re back.”

Her voice came out slightly hoarse. She closed her eyes briefly, rubbing her cheek against her arm once before lifting her head.

“Why didn’t you go back to the room?” Liu Qianxiu asked.

As he spoke, she rubbed her neck. Her pale fingers pressed into her dark hair. Her head tipped back slightly, exposing the elegant line of her throat in the shadow of the lamplight.

“I said I’d wait for you.”

Mu Wan shrugged lightly. Her shoulders were thin and straight, the hollow at her throat clear, her eyes still black and bright.

She smiled, planting a hand on the table as she pushed herself upright.

“Now that you’re back, I’ll go to the guest roo—”

Before she finished, she braced a hand against the table and tried to stand.

But her legs had gone numb. The pins-and-needles sensation shot up from the soles of her feet and through the whole lower half of her body.

Mu Wan stumbled.

The instant her body tilted toward the low table, she reached out for the man in front of her.

Before her hand could find him, he had already caught her.

His hand landed on her waist.

Mu Wan stiffened all over.

His palm was large, dry, and cool. Through the thin fabric of her clothes, the sensation pressed straight into her skin. It felt cool, but it made her hot.

Her jaw trembled faintly.

Looking up at him, she said, “My leg’s asleep…”

She did not even finish the sentence.

Her body wavered again.

Mu Wan’s heart skipped. She gave a small cry of surprise as her body lifted clear off the ground.

Liu Qianxiu had bent and picked her up in his arms.

To keep from falling, Mu Wan threw both arms around his neck, her eyes widening.

“Liu Qianxiu.”

The living room was so quiet that all she could hear was her own heartbeat. She was very close to him. He looked down at her, listening to her say his name.

“Mm.”

Liu Qianxiu answered softly and carried her into the guest room.

He had brought her here once before, so he knew the way easily.

After laying her on the bed, he turned on the night lamp.

Under the light, the two of them looked at one another.

It seemed as if each of them had something to say.

And yet it also seemed as if neither of them did.

Mu Wan lay under the blanket, her body slowly relaxing.

She looked into Liu Qianxiu’s eyes.

Her thoughts were starting to drift.

“Liu Qianxiu, why did you agree to let me go to the Taoist temple with you?”

Liu Qianxiu looked at her.

Her voice was growing softer, and her eyes were slowly closing.

“I wanted to confirm whether the environment would affect my state of mind.”

“Will the environment affect it?”

Mu Wan’s small face turned to the side against the pillow. Her eyes had already closed.

Liu Qianxiu’s throat moved lightly.

Listening to the woman’s breathing gradually even out, he answered in a low voice,

“No. Only people do.”

Incurable Chapter 27 Part 1

Chapter 27 (1/2)

The sunset clouds spread across the sky.

Mu Wan tilted her head back to look at Liu Qianxiu. Something fluttered in her chest. She did not blink once as she asked uncertainly, “Did you hear it?”

“No.” Liu Qianxiu denied it and lowered his eyes to look at her.

Her hair was tied up, and even the loose strands had been gilded red by the fading light. The sea breeze lifted them, and they swayed like strands of seaweed.

“When you want to tell me,” he said, “I’ll listen.”

She wanted to tell him now.

She just did not know what the outcome would be.

Mu Wan smiled.

“That’s true. I’ll definitely tell you one day.”

The sun’s last afterglow stretched the beauty of the sea into something even more vivid and expansive.

The sun had sunk into the water.

Grains of sand shifted beneath their feet.

The two of them left the shore together.

This time Mu Wan had not fallen asleep, so she went with Liu Qianxiu to Xu Xingkong’s house.

The doorbell rang, Xu Xingkong opened the door, and the moment she saw Mu Wan standing behind Liu Qianxiu, her eyes lit up slightly, and she smiled.

“You’re here. Come in.”

Standing behind Liu Qianxiu, Mu Wan smiled back.

She liked Xu Xingkong very much.

Xu Xingkong possessed that particular gentleness unique to women from Jiangnan—like a length of gauze rinsed in a shallow stream, drifting slowly with the current, soft yet resilient. In Xu Xingkong, Mu Wan found something she had in common with her own mother. That made her feel instinctively close to her.

The four cats were split between two carriers. Liu Qianxiu carried one in each hand, while Mu Wan held only a carton of strawberry milk. Once inside, Mu Wan handed it over.

“This is for you. It’s pretty sweet. Liu Qianxiu bought it.”

Xu Xingkong glanced at Liu Qianxiu, then accepted it with a smile.

“Thank you.”

Liu Qianxiu carried the cats into the cat room. But as soon as he set the carriers down, he received a phone call. After answering it, he stepped back outside, leaving only Mu Wan and Xu Xingkong in the room.

Mu Wan crouched down and let Zhouyi and the three kittens out.

Xu Xingkong wanted to help, but Mu Wan quickly said there was no need. As she opened the carrier, Zhouyi was the first to spring out. He was clearly already used to this place. The moment he came out, he leaped up onto the cat tree. The three little ones, on the other hand, seemed as though they had glue on them. They toddled out of the carrier one by one, meowing in their soft kitten voices, then stuck themselves around Mu Wan’s ankles.

“Kittens are clingy,” Xu Xingkong said as she watched the three of them. In the end, she crouched down too.

The way she crouched made her lean back a little. Mu Wan assumed it was just a personal habit and did not think anything of it.

“But they cling to Liu Qianxiu even more,” Mu Wan said.

She pointed toward the doorway, where Liu Qianxiu was still on the phone. His voice was low. She could not make out what he was saying, only catch the occasional work-related word.

There was a different kind of charm about him when he was working.

Mu Wan found herself drifting into a daze just listening.

When she came back to herself and saw Xu Xingkong looking at her, warmth rose to her face. She hurriedly withdrew her gaze and rested a hand on the kittens’ small heads.

“These three are mine. But Liu Qianxiu was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep them alive, so he’s fostering them for now. Once they’re older, I’ll take them back.”

“Qianxiu really likes cats.”

At the mention of Liu Qianxiu, Xu Xingkong smiled.

“Our cat was given to my husband by him too.”

“Oh?”

Mu Wan looked surprised for a second, then remembered what Liu Qianxiu had once said and smiled.

“He told me his friend didn’t know how to raise one, so his friend’s wife ended up doing it.”

“Mm.”

Remembering how Mimi had first been treated in Huai Jing’s house, Xu Xingkong nodded.

“He really didn’t know how. In the end, I took the cat in.”

“Then did the two of you meet because of a cat?” Mu Wan asked.

“Not exactly.”

The moment the topic turned to the past, Xu Xingkong’s cheeks flushed faintly. Her relationship with Huai Jing had not begun because of a cat, though the cat had run through it from beginning to end.

“Your husband must be a very gentle person,” Mu Wan said as she looked at Xu Xingkong.

Happiness flowed from the corners of Xu Xingkong’s eyes, and somehow that warmed Mu Wan too.

She had never met Xu Xingkong’s husband, but she could already sense what he must be like.

Their house was large and open, yet not cold. Every corner of it carried a soft kind of warmth. If two people were not in love, a home could never hold that kind of happiness so densely.

Hearing Mu Wan’s judgment of her husband, Xu Xingkong curled her lips into a smile. But she did not fully agree. She only said, “Mm. He’s very gentle to me.”

“That’s so nice,” Mu Wan said softly.

She reached out and poked at Zhongfen’s ear, then murmured, “If only Liu Qianxiu were like that too.”

At that moment, the cat room door opened. The two women both turned.

Liu Qianxiu swept his gaze across the room, then let it settle on Mu Wan.

“There’s something at the hospital. I need to go back now.”

Xu Xingkong saw the two of them out and walked them to the car. Mu Wan waved goodbye before fastening her seatbelt.

The sun had completely set by then, and night had fallen. The streetlights lit up in rows, bathing the coastal road in brightness.

Liu Qianxiu handled everything steadily. He drove the same way.

Mu Wan leaned back in her seat, looking at the lighthouse standing on the sea cliffs.

“What’s going on at the hospital?”

As the beam from the lighthouse swept over her, Mu Wan narrowed her eyes for a moment, then looked back at Liu Qianxiu.

“There’s an issue with tomorrow’s surgery. We need to discuss the plan in a meeting,” Liu Qianxiu answered.

“Oh.”

Mu Wan responded, then asked, “Will it take a long time?”

“Yes. You should go home first,” Liu Qianxiu said.

Her lashes moved slightly.

Looking at his profile, Mu Wan asked, “Which home?”

At the red light, Liu Qianxiu turned his head.

The woman’s eyes were filled with scattered bits of light as she smiled at him.

“I may be busy until very late,” he said. The surgical plan for tomorrow had not yet been finalized.

“I can wait for you,” Mu Wan said.

What was she planning to wait for? It definitely was not dinner. It was already seven now. If he finished, it would be after nine.

After saying it, Mu Wan closed her lips and gave a sheepish little smile.

“Ah. It’ll be too late for dinner by then.”

“Go to my place,” Liu Qianxiu said calmly. “I don’t have time to take you home right now.”

Tang’er Hospital was close to Nanfeng Apartments. But if he had to take her all the way back to her own place and then return, that would cost nearly an hour. He truly did not have time.

Mu Wan pressed her lips together for a second, then nodded.

“Okay. I’m fine. I can be anywhere.”

Liu Qianxiu only took Mu Wan as far as the entrance of Nanfeng Apartments.

Then he gave her the apartment’s password.

Mu Wan entered it, heard the lock click open, pressed the handle down, and pushed the door wide.

The apartment inside was pitch-black.

Completely at ease by now, Mu Wan turned on the living room lights. Light spilled across the space, but it still felt wide and empty. Even the elusive Zhouyi was nowhere to be seen. The whole apartment held no one but her.

It was similar to her own place.

But not the same.

At home, there was only ever her.

Here, whether it was one hour, or two hours—or however many hours it took—as long as she waited, Liu Qianxiu would come back.

Mu Wan walked to the low table, took off her shoes, stepped onto the rug, and sat down cross-legged.

The books on the table were still the same ones. Liu Qianxiu seemed to read them over and over again. She had no idea how he could stand books this dry.

After sitting there for a while, Mu Wan looked out the window.

The living room faced south, with a wide open view. A curved moon hung high in the sky, cold and pale and bright, enlarging the apartment’s emptiness even more.

A few strands of agarwood fragrance still lingered in the room. Leaning back against the weight-bearing wall, Mu Wan took in the entire living room with one sweep of her eyes.

At night, under the moonlight, it really did feel a little like a Taoist temple.

But no matter how much the décor resembled one, this was still the middle of the secular world. That was probably why Liu Qianxiu wanted to retreat to the temple for quiet cultivation.

Waiting was, in truth, terribly boring.

Mu Wan had waited around on plenty of sets before. There were times in broad daylight when she had waited so long she drifted off to sleep.

But tonight, waiting for Liu Qianxiu in his home, she felt no sleepiness at all.

She leaned forward, took out her phone, and started playing a game.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 325

~ PICKED UP THE HIBISCUS ~

As Mu Yunyao stood up, she felt a strong wave of anger coming from her side. She turned her head and saw Su Yu Yi’s gaze filled with anger, and Su Yuyi said, “Cousin Sister is here kneels down to pray for Grandfather, but she still has time to pay her respects in front of the Grand Princess, this is truly unexpected.”

“I also took advantage of it. Because I came here earlier yesterday, thus I met with the Grand Princess. If Elder Sister had been here yesterday, I don’t think I would have had the chance to meet her today.”

Mu Yunyao’s words were very amiable. But in Su Yuyi’s ears, it was no different than a slap to her face.

Why didn’t she come yesterday? Wasn’t it because the Capital was filled with unbearable rumors, confusing her with a lowly dancer, forcing her to find someone and teach her how to dance, so she could use it to break through the rumors and restore her reputation.

Mu Yunyao’s words were obviously taunting her! She was just a lowly slut under someone else’s roof. How dare she say such words?

“Then Cousin Sister should go and copy the Buddhist scriptures as soon as possible. After all, the matter with the Grand Princess is more important, so we can’t delay her.” A fire rose in Su Yuyi’s heart, but her expression became more arrogant and colder. She raised her head high, and her slender neck was graceful. After saying that, she leads her people to walk away. Su Qingwu looked worriedly at Su Yuyi, then turned to Mu Yunyao and said, “Being able to help Grand Princess Yi De write a Buddhist scripture is your good fortune. Don’t go to the prayer hall to kneel down at night, so you could copy Buddhist scriptures with ease. In addition, in order to appear solemnity, you should take a bath in the incense in advance, and then go to the main hall to worship the Buddha, and then go to the Scripture Pavilion to copy the Buddhist scripture, so that the etiquette is not lost.”

“Thank you for the reminder, Cousin.” Mu Yunyao thanked him in an extremely courteous manner, but her heart was still a little unsettled.

The reason Grand Princess Yi De was able to see the Buddhist scriptures that she copied must be because she was reading them in the prayer hall. That is to say, last night, Yue Wang must have been there. So today, is it because of Yue Wang that Grand Princess Yi De asked her to copy the Buddhist scriptures?

Su Qing walked up and caressed Mu Yunyao’s hair, “You don’t have to think so much about it. Whether it’s a blessing or a curse is not something that can be avoided. The Grand Princess’s words have already been handed over. All you have to do is copy the Buddhist scriptures with peace of mind.

Mu Yunyao nodded. “Alright. I’ll listen to Mother. Mother needs to pay extra attention to herself. If you want to go out for a walk, you must bring along Si Qin and Si Qi with you.

After copying these two scrolls of Buddhist scriptures, she was at the heart of the struggle. Furthermore, looked at Su Yuyi’s appearance today clearly showed that she was full of resentment. However, this was Baohua Temple, and with Grand Princess Yi De here, she shouldn’t act rashly.

“Don’t worry.”

Mu Yunyao had a great impression of Grand Princess Yi De, so when she was asked to copy the Buddhist scriptures, no matter what the reason was, her heart filled with respect.

The moment she returned to her room, she saw a flower vase placed on the table. The vase was slender and long. At the mouth of the vase, there were two blooming Hibiscus Mutabilis.

When Si Shu saw her expression, she felt more guilty and said in a low voice, “Miss, these two Hibiscus Mutabilis flowers were also picked up by this servant.”

Mu Yunyao angered to the point of laughing, “I still lack a maid. Do you want to pick her up at the door as well?”

“Ah, doesn’t Miss have a servant by her side? There are Jin Lan and Jin Qiao. Are they not enough?”

“Isn’t this to find a new one to exchange for you?” Mu Yunyao glanced at her.

Si Shu hurriedly pleaded, her face turning pale. “Miss, this servant knows her wrongs. In the future, I will not randomly pick up anything. Please forgive this servant.”

Mu Yunyao looked at Hibiscus Mutabilis, which was on the table, and bit her lower lip. “Get up and prepare some hot water. I want to bathe myself. You wait until I finish copying the Buddhist scriptures, and I will settle accounts with you slowly.”

Si Shu turned bitter. “Yes, this servant will go right away.”

Mu Yunyao forced herself to look away from Hibiscus Mutabilis after the Si Shu left. She bit her lower lip and said, “Idiot.” It was unknown if she talked about the Si Shu or Yue Wang...

Mu Yunyao did her best to suppress her rising and falling thoughts. After bathing in the incense, she changed into a set of plain white clothes and used a jade-green hairpin to tie up her hair. Then, she headed to the main hall to worship the Buddha.

Su Qing was also worried about Mu Yunyao, so she let Si Shu and Si Hua follow her. She herself brought Si Qin and Si Qi to the prayer hall to continue kneeling.

The Baohua Temple was different from other Buddhist temples. It could borrow and copy the ancient manuscripts in the temple at will. Thus, a special place for copying scriptures has been opened up, which was the Scripture Pavilion where Mu Yunyao is now.

It was too quiet at night in the Scripture Pavilion. As soon as Mu Yunyao walked in, she could smell the faint scent of ink. The books and records were neatly placed on the bookshelves, and a little novice monk was standing by to sort them out.

“Amitabha, does female benefactor want to copy a scripture?” Little novice monk looked to be about seven or eight years old and was about the same age as Nan’er. Her appearance was round and adorable, and his movements were especially earnest.

Mu Yunyao clasped her hands together in return. “Yes, I want to copy out two scrolls of the original Bodhisattva wishes, and I hope that Little Master can help me find them.”

“Yes, please come with me.”

Very soon, the little novice monk took out the Buddhist scriptures from the cloth bag, “Please treasure the Buddhist scriptures, Miss. After you have finished copying the Buddhist scriptures, put manuscripts on the table. The manuscripts can be taken away with you. This humble monk will not bother you anymore.”

“Thank you, Little Master.”

Si Shu and Si Hua helped to lay the paper and grind the ink. Mu Yunyao looked at the flickering candle flame, and her eyes gradually calmed down. “I’ll do it myself.” Since she wanted to copy it, she might as well do it with all her heart. Hopefully, Grand Princess Yi De could find her lost daughter as soon as possible.

The night was quiet, and the sounds of the insects were notably clear.

Mu Yunyao kneeled on the ground with her back straight. Her body was upright, and her white wrists were slightly suspended. The tip of her pen was slightly moved, and one by one, the charming small letters jumped onto a piece of paper.

Yue Wang leaned on the entrance of the Scripture Pavilion and gestured at Si Shu and Si Hua to keep quiet. His gentle gaze gently fell on Mu Yunyao’s body as a concentrated and fiery light seemed to revolve in his eyes.

Mu Yunyao finished copying a Buddhist scripture. As she was changing the paper, her gaze inadvertently drifted towards the door, and she suddenly saw Yue Wang standing there. She didn’t know how long he looked at her, “His Royal Highness Yue Wang, when did you get here?”

Yue Wang walked in and looked at the Buddhist scriptures on the table. His eyes flashed with a touch of distress. “Don’t be in such a hurry. Just finish copying it before we leave Baohua Temple.”

Earlier, she had already copied down twenty scrolls of Buddhist scriptures, day and night. Because he was worried that she wouldn’t be able to hold kneeling on any longer, he secretly opened his mouth to speak to his Imperial Aunt. He had no idea that she was so anxious that she would come all night to do so.

“Wouldn’t it have been better to send the Buddhist scripture to Grand Princess Yide earlier?”

Yue Wang felt a little helpless. He should have thought of this earlier. Yunyao’s character was always stubborn, and she unwilling to show any weakness in front of others.

Si Shu and Si Hua had already retreated, and the little novice monk who had been standing guard had also disappeared. At this moment, there were only her and Yue Wang in the room. Mu Yunyao couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.

However, Yue Wang didn’t seem to notice her uneasiness as he slowly walked up to the table and sat down. He looked at the Buddhist scripture Mu Yunyao had copied, and his heart was full of appreciation.

Yunyao is very powerful. She could not only imitate his broad open, and strong calligraphy, but she could also control his elegant, reserved, and introverted style. Just like her, she looks gentle and harmless, delicate and beautiful as a flower in the bud that was about to bloom. But once she was angered, she could also show her strength and kill people on sight.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 324

~ YUE WANG’S UNREQUITED LOVE ~

Yue Wang returned to the room with a cold expression on his face.

The Grand Princess Yi De smiled as she looked over, then said softly, “What’s going on? It seems as though you’ve suffered some sort of blow.” Jin Wang’s few words of ridicule shouldn’t have made him show such an expression.

Yue Wang shook his head slightly. “Nothing much. There are just some things that I haven’t figured out yet.” As he said that, his gaze fell onto the Daffodils near the window sill. Although the Daffodils had not bloomed yet, the fat leaves were still so beautiful. Why didn’t Yunyao like it?

“Thinking about Mu Yunyao?”

Yue Wang paused before nodding slightly. “Imperial Aunt, do you like the Daffodils or Hibiscus?”

The Grand Princess Yi De slightly raised her eyebrow, then suddenly laughed. “I’m actually a little curious about that Mu Yunyao. She told you that she likes Hibiscus?”

Yue Wang nodded his head and discussed Mu Yunyao with the Grand Princess. In his heart, there was an unspeakable nervousness and distress: “En.”

“I really didn’t expect that you, Jun Yue, would actually be a one-sided love.”

Yue Wang’s body stiffened as he carefully recalled the situation between him and Mu Yunyao. However, he was unwilling to admit it. Back then, in the letter, Steward Qin had said that Yunyao was fond of him ... Although Yunyao did not personally admit it, he still believed it to be true and believes it deeply.

The Grand Princess’s smile grew wider as she looked at the troubled expression on Yue Wang’s face. A hint of emotion flashed across her eyes, “Do you know that Hibiscus has another name?”

“Another name?”

“Yes, Hibiscus is fond of cold weather, also known as frost repellent flower, frost repellent, double repellent... Is the meaning not obvious enough?”

Yue Wang was startled, a look of disappointment flashed across his face, but he quickly steeled his heart: “Imperial Aunt, I’ll go find some Hibiscus. If you wish to go to the prayer hall of Baohua later on, let Qu Mama follow you and bring along the bodyguards. Many people have heard that you’ve come to Baohua temple. Don’t be collided by those who are not polite.”

“Go ahead.”

When Yue Wang had retreated, Grand Princess Yi De’s gaze couldn’t help but fall upon the Daffodils. Qu Mama hurriedly brought the daffodils over and placed them in Grand Princess Yi De’s hand. “This old servant looks at Young Master’s expression and seems to like that Miss Mu Yunyao very much?”

The Grand Princess Yi De stretched out her hand and pulled a daffodil leaf. “How did you know?”

“Although I’ve only met Miss Mu Yunyao twice, this servant discovered that she and the Grand Princess really share some similarities. This old servant referred not only to her appearance and features but also her manner of speech and actions. There was a little bit of the shadow of the Grand Princess when she was young.”

The Grand Princess Yi De’s finger stopped, and she suddenly loosened her hand that was holding onto the Daffodils’s leaf. The leaf slightly swayed back, as if it was a ripple that was stirred up instantly in her heart: “If my child was still alive, she would probably be married and have children now too... In the end, I did not have the luck of the Su family after all, and the daughter who has been lost for so many years can be retrieved...”

The Grand Princess Yi De sighed. She also liked seeing Mu Yunyao. Although she hadn’t said much, she still felt that she was particularly pleasing to the eye. She had even specifically looked at the evidence that the Emperor had sent people to investigate. Su Qing and the Su family’s relationship was real, and the evidence was plentiful. If not, she suspects that Mu Yunyao has a relationship with her.

Qu Mama hurriedly slapped her own mouth. “It’s all my fault for speaking too much and making Your Highness sad.”

The Grand Princess Yi De returned to her senses, looked at Qu Mama, and said, “Alright, we have been master and servant for dozens of years. How can I be angry with you for saying those words? The frost repellent flower,... Now that I think about it, it really does feel like a lifetime ago.”

Qu Mama couldn’t help but laugh, “The Grand Princess must have thought of when you were young, right? At that time, you were the late emperor’s most beloved princess, peerlessly beautiful and magnificent. I wonder how many influential and powerful young masters of various families wanted to marry you back then. Among them, Lord Xu was the most infatuated. “

The Grand Princess Yi De also laughed, her smile full of nostalgia. “That’s right. At that time, I was still in the prime of my life. Although Xu Yan was extremely talented, there was a huge disparity between our statuses. I didn’t want to hurt his heart, so I sent Hibiscus to tactfully reject him. Who would’ve known that idiot clearly understood, yet, he pretended to not understand. He event went to find Double Lotus and sent it to the entrance of the palace every day. Even the late emperor was alarmed, and countless people came over to watch the show.”

“However, Lord Xu became Prince Consort in the end, so it must be because of this deep emotion that moved you.”

Recalled those sunny days, Grand Princess Yide’s eyes were bright: “At that time, I only felt that he was foolish, but later on, I don’t know when, but I felt that this idiocy entered my heart, and it lasted for so many years.” Even if the yin and yang are separated, I never forget each other...

Only after a long time did Grand Princess Yi De withdraw her thoughts from her past memories, and a faint glimmer of water appeared in her eyes, “I’m not tired of my youth, I’ve seen Zhu Mingyi. I sighed with regret, and the stars were gray hair.* I was old, and when I thought back about the past, I feel so far away. I only hope that a years ago, I can receive some news from my daughter.

This way, when I meet her in the underworld, I’ll have an explanation....”

“The Heavens will definitely show mercy to the Grand Princess, allowing you to get what you want as soon as possible.” The Grand Princess and Prince Xu had fallen in love with each other, and no one didn’t know about this. Later on, Prince Consort dies to protect the Grand Princess. This would forever be the knot in the Grand Princess’s heart and was firmly locked in the agony of those days.

The Grand Princess Yi De gently caressed the Buddhist scriptures on the table. After pausing for a while to calm herself, she said, “I feel much more calm after reading the scriptures copied by Mu Yunya. Go and pass along a message for her to help me copy another two scrolls of of the original Bodhisattva wishes.”

Qu Mama hurriedly replied, “Yes, this old servant will go now.” It seems that the Grand Princess wants to praise this Miss Mu Yunyao on account of Yue Wang.

As soon as the afternoon’s kneeling session ended, Mu Yunyao saw Qu Mama standing outside the prayer hall.

Su Yuyi, who was at the side, had already stepped forward and bowed. As she spoke, her face was pale, and her body was swaying. “Greeting, Qu Mama.”

Qu Mama quickly evaded. She didn’t accept the etiquette and then said with a slight smile, “Greetings, Miss Su. I’m here to look for Miss Mu to pass on the Grand Princess’s words.”

Mu Yunyao’s heart stirred as she hurriedly stepped forward, “Greetings to Qu Mama. I wonder what orders the Grand Princess has for me.”

“His Royal Highness Grand Princess has occasionally seen scriptures copied by Miss Mu, and she really likes them. I would like to trouble Miss Mu to copy two scrolls of the original Bodhisattva wishes.”

Mu Yunyao hurriedly answered, “Yes.”

Qu Mama smiled again. “His Royal Highness Grand Princess will be leaving Baohua Temple in two days, so I’ll have to trouble Miss Mu to hurry.”

“Yes, please send a message to the Grand Princess. This humble daughter will copy it as soon as possible and deliver it to the Grand Princess.”

“Alright, then this servant will take to leave.”

“I’ll send you off.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 323

~ SHOW LOVE AND RESPECT AS GOOD BROTHERS SHOULD ~

Si Shu left the room with some guilty conscience and just happened to run into Si Qin. She quickly stepped forward to hold her. “Sister Si Qin, Miss seems to have found out, that flower....”

Si Qin hurriedly pulled the person back and sighed softly. Among the four of them, Si Shu’s martial arts is the strongest, but her personality is also the most innocent. She couldn’t control her emotions and said, “Miss has always been intelligent. How could we hide it from her? If she discover it, then so be it. Anyway, you picked up the flower at the door.”

“But... Fourth Master sent someone to put it at the door. “

“That won’t be a problem. You just picked up the flowers from the door and placed them on the table in the room. Don’t worry, Miss won’t bother.”

“But now that we are with Miss, don’t you think she would think we were disloyal by doing this?”

Si Qin couldn’t help laughing: “Did the Fourth Master ask you to put the flowers on the table?”

“Nope.” The Fourth Master sent someone to put the flower at the door. She saw it and thought it must be for Miss, so she picked it up.

“Then that’s enough. Rest assured, Master is more considerate than us.” Fourth Master had gone through a lot of trouble to send the four of them to Miss, so he naturally wouldn’t let Miss have a reason to chase them away.

Si Shu thought about it for a while and felt that it made a bit of sense. She then calmed herself down and asked, “Then do I still need to go to the back of the mountain to find Hibiscus Mutabilis?”

Si Qin helplessly pulled Si Shu away: “We’ll just pick it up from the door at night.”

“...That would be fine.” The Fourth Master will send it anyway.

In the afternoon, Su Yuyi felt even more uncomfortable. Her knees looked like they were about to break, but she had come to Baohua Temple to perform well in order to get Princess Yi De to look at her more. At this time, she had to persevere no matter what.

Taking advantage of the afternoon break, she had someone change the cushions. However, her legs still felt very uncomfortable, and her condition did not improve at all. After kneeling for less than half an hour, she could no longer hold on and fell to the ground again.

Su Qingwu’s forehead twitched and asked the maid to help her up. “Yuyi, since you’re not feeling well, why don’t you go back to your room and rest?”

“No need,” Su Yuyi quickly shook her head. If she gave up at this moment, isn’t the previous discomfort all in vain? “Don’t worry, Elder Brother. I can persevere.”

Seeing her stubbornness, Su Qingwu knew what she and her mother were planning, so he didn’t try to dissuade her.

There are several rooms in Baohua Temple that had always been closed to outsiders. But at this moment, Jin Wang came to the door and asked people to report back. Not long after, he was invited in.

“Greetings, Imperial Aunt.” Jin Wang walked through the door and saluted Grand Princess Yi De with a smile on his face.

Grand Princess Yi De put down the Buddhist scripture in her hand and said, “Stand up, why have you come?”

“Imperial Father was worried that you weren’t used to living on the mountain, so he asked me to come visit you. He also asked me to bring a letter for Imperial Aunt to take a look.”

Qu Mama took the letter and handed it to the Grand Princess.

After reading the contents of the letter, the Grand Princess Yi De couldn’t help but smile. “Imperial Brother has thought it through a bit too thoroughly, but the Autumn Hunt in September is a good opportunity. You go back and say that I agree. During the Autumn Hunt, all of the young ladies should go as well.”

“Yes.” Jin Wang took out a prescription from his sleeve. “Imperial Aunt, I know that you’ve suffered from chest pain again these past few days. This is a prescription that I’ve got someone to look up, and I’ve asked the imperial physicians to take a look at for me. It says that the medicinal properties are mild enough and can slowly restore the body. Imperial Aunt looked at it and used it if it could be used.”

The Grand Princess Yi De motioned for Qu Mama to accept the prescription. “You’re quite considerate. This is an old ailment of mine that has been pained for many years. I’m gradually getting used to it. You even specially went to search for a prescription. It’s hard for you.”

“This is what Nephew should do. If I can cure Imperial Aunt’s chest pain after so many years, Imperial Father’s heart can also be relieved. He don’t need to worry about it all the time.”

As Jin Wang was speaking, he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. He quickly turned his head to look and saw the cold expression on Yue Wang’s face, “Fourth Brother, when did you return from Western Guangdong? Why have you not entered the Palace to pay respects toImperial Father?”

Yue Wang placed down a pot of the Daffodils in his hand and cupped his hands as he greeted Jin Wang: “Greetings, Third Imperial Brother.”

“Fourth Imperial Brother is excused. A few days ago at the Mid-Autumn Festival Banquet, Imperial Father said that he would make an order to announce the Fourth Brother’s return. I didn’t expect that in just a few short days, Fourth Imperial Brother had already returned to the Capital.”

The Grand Princess’s eyes fell on the daffodils by the table and did not participate in the conversation between the two brothers.

Yue Wang ignored him and placed the Daffodils in front of Grand Princess Yi De. “What Imperial Aunt feel about this potted flower?”

“Although it didn’t blossom, it was quite interesting and charming.” Grand Princess Yi De motioned for Qu Mama to arrange the Daffodils and then said, “You two haven’t seen each other for a long time. Go out and have a chat. I’m a bit tired. I need a nap first.”

“Yes, then I won’t disturb Imperial Aunt.”

After exiting the room, Jin Wang looked at Yue Wang with a smile, not caring about the cold look on his face: “Fourth Imperial Brother has always been a man of his words, but this time, it was really unexpected.”

Yue Wang raised his eyes. “Will the Third Imperial Brother report my return to the Capital in advance to Imperial Father?”

Jin Wang’s eyes flashed, and he smiled even more than before, “How could that be? Although Imperial Father said that you couldn’t enter the Capital without an Imperial Edict, with Imperial Aunt here, I believe Imperial Father will not care about such a small matter.”

As if he did not hear the profound meaning behind Jin Wang’s words, Yue Wang spoke coldly: “Then take care, Third Imperial Brother. I shall not send you off.” With that, he turned and headed back to the Grand Princess’s room.

Jing Wang Jin looked at his back, and a slightly gloomy emotion flashed in his eyes. Everyone knew that he had been raised by the Grand Princess when he was young. Even his Imperial Father, the Emperor, regarded him more highly because of this.

In truth, he just listened to his mother’s word and had insisted on staying by the side of the Grand Princess. He had always been humble and submissive, trying to curry favor with the Grand Princess. However, at that time, he was still young, and his patience was poor. It was because the Grand Princess was neither cold nor hot, so he had not been able to persevere to the very end.

However, during that time, he discovered a secret. That was to say, the Grand Princess’s treatment of Yue Wang was very different from others. Not only would she get the mama to deliver things to the cold palace every once in a while, but she would also even occasionally hear stories about what he had done in the cold palace.

After that, when the Grand Princess left the Capital, she did not reduce the amount of care she provided to Yue Wang in the cold palace. It could be said that without the Grand Princess taking care of him, it would have been difficult for Yue Wang to live to the age of twelve, let alone be assigned to Western Guangdong.

And now, Yue Wang had returned to the Capital, but he had gone straight to the Grand Princess without even seeing the Imperial Father in the Palace. He couldn’t help but suspect that the two never break off contact, and the relationship between the two of them was extremely close.

After thinking for a moment, Jin Wang did not immediately leave. Instead, he sent his personal bodyguards back to the Palace to report to the Emperor and chose a room to stay. He still had a few things he needed to confirm, and staying in this room would allow others to feel that he and Grand Princess Yi was close. Thus, the benefits would be greater.

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife Chapter 322

~ YUE WANG HAS SPECIAL FLOWER DELIVERY SKILLS ~

On the second day, Mu Yunyao got up early and accompanied Su Qing to finish their vegetarian meal. After she finished eating, she headed to the prayer hall to continue kneeling and praying. However, just as she left the side room, he saw Su Yuyi, who was slightly pale.

“Greetings, Cousin.”

When Su Yuyi saw Mu Yunyao, a look of disgust flashed past her eyes: “Cousin, there’s no need to be so polite.”

Mu Yunyao’s eyes held a smile. She had already guessed that the news of Princess Yi De’s coming to Baohua temple could not be concealed, but she hadn’t thought that it would leak out so quickly. It had only been a short night, but Su Yuyi had already caught up.

Su Yuyi’s expression was slightly stiff as she followed Yunyao and the rest to the prayer hall, placing the copied Buddhist scriptures on the table. She had come in with hasty manner, and before coming, she even had to teach the woman whom her eldest brother had found to dance. The Buddhist scriptures were extremely rushed, so she was not copied much of The Buddhist scriptures. Compared with Mu Yunyao’s twenty scrolls, it made her feel exceptionally awkward.

Su Yuyi kneels on the prayer mats and slightly closes her eyes. As long as Mu Yunyao was there, she would feel uncomfortable all over. However, this place was Baohua Temple, and people were coming and going, along with Grand Princess Yi De. She couldn’t fall out with Mu Yunyao, and it would be bad for her reputation.

However, due to the restlessness in her heart, she found it particularly hard to endure while kneeling on the ground and chanting. Her knees also began to feel waves of pain, which caused her to frown.

Mu Yunyao was kneeling at the side. Seeing Su Yuyi, who would occasionally move her knees from time to time, a trace of coldness flashed through her slightly lowered eyes.

In order to deal with her, the Eldest Madam prepared very well. The porridge that Qi Mama had sent over was mixed with koji grass powder, but she had used a prayer mat with soft cushions yesterday. Today, she had sprinkled the prayer mat with anemarrhena powder. Both of these things were cold, especially koji grass. It is also known as June Frost, which shows its coldness.

Now the weather is getting colder. If people were to kneel here and pray for blessings, they would be vulnerable to be attacked by cold. First, she took koji grass orally, and then she would kneel on the prayer mat stained with anemarrhena powder. After three days, the legs will be wasted!

Furthermore, even if she had suffered a loss, she wouldn’t dare to make a big fuss about it. After all, she came to Baohua Temple to pray for her grandfather. In just three days, she said that her leg was broken. Isn’t it because she has no filial piety and fussy? After all, this was the usual practice in the past years. If other people are okay, she seemed to be a spoiled child?

Mu Yunyao closed her eyes and knelt down once again, a slight smile appearing on her lips. The Eldest Madam had painstakingly planned for such a long time, so she couldn’t let these things go to waste. Thus, after seeing the Grand Princess Yi De, she had ordered Liu Liang to secretly prepare those arrangements ready for them last night. Today, Su Yuyi came in handy as soon as she arrived.

If the Eldest Madam wanted to harm her, she would return it to her daughter, Su Yuyi, which was very fair.

At first, Su Yuyi could endure it a little, but gradually, her knees became numb from the pain. It was as if the prayer mat she was kneeling down was not a soft cushion, but it was a wooden board filled with needles.

A cold sweat gradually came out on her forehead, and her face became paler. Su Yuyi did not pretend to be sick these past few days, as she really did feel uncomfortable. After all, she wanted to spread her reputation, yet on the way, she even actually got involved with the lowly dancer of Huan Cai Pavillion in the middle of the journey. This depression alone was enough to make her flustered and short of breath.

What was even more shocking was that when she danced in the palace, the reputation she got was worshiping the Moon Fairy. While the lowly dancer had spread the reputation of being the Moon Fairy of the Moon Palace, and just from her reputation, she was able to suppress her. It made her wish to find the other party directly and tear her alive!

The anger was intertwined in her heart. Su Yuyi endured and forbore, but she still couldn’t bear it and fell to the side.

Mu Yunyao extended a hand to support him, “Elder Sister Yuyi, are you alright?

Su Yuyi waved her hand to block Mu Yunyao, and her tone became even stiffer: “I don’t dare bother Cousin Yunyao.”

Mu Yunyao blinked in surprise as she turned her head to look at the person at the door, “Why is His Royal Highness Jin Wang here?”

Hearing the two words Jin Wang, Su Yuyi’s body couldn’t help but stiffen. She remembered Mu Yunyao viciously in her heart and slowly supported herself up as she turned around. Her voice carried a hint of weakness, “Greetings, His Royal Highness Jin Wang.”

The Third Prince, dressed in a light blue embroidered auspicious cloud pattern, had a jeweled belt on his waist, had a bright face, and a warm breath. Right now, he was faintly smiling, looking like a gentleman unparalleled in the world: “There is no need to be so courteous. Miss Su seems to be unwell. Although it’s filial piety to recite Buddhist scriptures and praying for blessing, you can’t exhaust your body just because of it.

Su Yuyi shook her head slightly. There was a trace of worry on her beautiful face, and it made the people’s hearts melt, “Thank you for your concern, His Royal Highness Jin Wang. I should have come with Eldest Brother last night to pray for my grandfather in place of my parents, but yesterday was really.....I came here as soon as I got a little better this morning.”

Su Yuyi paused for a moment and didn’t say exactly why she didn’t come yesterday. Instead, she made people guess that she must have been too sick yesterday and couldn’t get out of bed at all.

Mu Yunyao on one side heard this, and her mind moved slightly: Sure enough. Both Su Yuyi and Jin Wang are extremely compatible. Both of them are extremely hypocritical characters, and looking at the current situation, Su Yuyi probably had some intentions towards Jin Wang. Since this was the case, she would definitely push the two of them together to achieve this good marriage.

Su Yuyi didn’t say much. After all, this wasn’t the right time and place to do so. She knelt down gracefully on the ground and started to recite the Buddhist scriptures attentively.

Su Qingwu stepped forward to converse with Jin Wang, and after a few sentences, Jin Wang said his goodbyes. but before he left, his words were directed towards Mu Yunyao, “Miss Mu must also pay more attention, please do not hurt your body because of this.”

“Thank you for His Royal Highness Jin Wang’s concern.” Mu Yunyao slightly bent over and bowed. She could clearly feel that Su Yuyi’s breath was in chaos for a moment, so she smiled and didn’t take it to heart.

When she returned to her room to rest at noon, Su Yuyi was practically helped out by her maid. Her entire face was deathly pale, and cold sweat covered her head. However, her beautiful appearance did not decrease in the slightest, causing people to feel heartache.

After accompanying Su Qing and eating some food, Mu Yunyao returned to the side room to rest for a while. Just as she walked into the room, she saw a plain butterfly flower placed on a table. There were plain white pebbles on the plate and clustered with Daffodils. The Daffodils were raised to perfection. The dark green leaves were so thick, so thick that one could see an air of innocence in their eyes.

“Why didn’t I see this Daffodils before? Did it come from Baohua Temple?”

Si Shu’s expression was somewhat unnatural. “In reply to Miss, this servant picked it up at the door. It looked so beautiful, so I placed it on the table for you to admire.”

Mu Yunyao’s eyes moved as she extended her hand to poke at the Daffodils’ chubby leaves. At this time, the Daffodils haven’t bloomed, so there’s nothing to see.

Si Shu became even more careful. “What kind of flowers does Miss like? This servant will go to the back mountain to look for them. There are many flowers planted in the back mountain of Baohua temple, and are very beautiful.”

“I like the Hibiscus Mutabilis and always feel that it has a character of the wind. It is so gorgeous and definitely rare.”

“Then, wait until Miss goes to the prayer hall in the afternoon. This servant will go to the back mountain to take a look.”

Mu Yunyao laughed. “You don’t need to go to the back of the mountain to look around. Just wait at the door and see if you can pick up a few more flowers.”

Pampered Poisonous Royal Wife chapter 321

~ THE TRUTH SHOULD NOT BE BURIED ~

Grand Princess Yi De gently closed her eyes, gripped the incense in her two hands, and respectfully bowing to Buddha. “Even if there is only a sliver of hope, I am still willing to believe in Buddha wholeheartedly. Even if..…even if I can’t get the child back, I hope she can be safe and carefree in the place where I can’t see her....”

At this moment, she was no longer the Grand Princess. She was just a mother who had lost her child for many years and cannot find any news of her..…

Yue Wang went forward to help put the incense into the incense burner in front of him and then accompanied the Grand Princess to recite the Buddhist scriptures and pray for blessings.

“Imperial Aunt, it’s getting late. Let’s go back.”

The Grand Princess Yi De opened her eyes and took a little breath of air. After bowing once more to Buddha, she stood up and said, “Many thanks, Great Master Yuan Guang, for waiting here every year.”

Ever since her daughter had been lost, she had come to Baohua Temple every year to make a wish, and the abbot Yuan Guang has also waited here every year. Other than the appearance of the two of them, the rest had never changed for more than 30 years.

The Great Master Yuan Guang smiled but did not speak, only slightly bowing.

When the Grand Princess Yi De turned to leave, she caught a glimpse of the Buddhist scriptures on the incense table from the corner of her eye. One of the scrolls was slightly opened, revealing the extraordinarily graceful little regular script with flowers in it. She was able to tell at a glance that this was a woman’s handwriting. But the font was not the same as the common boudoir women, which empty, tangible, and lacking in strength. On the other hand, it had a unique edge to it that made it especially refreshing.

The Grand Princess Yi De said softly, “These Buddhist scriptures?”

Yue Wang picked up the scroll and placed it in front of the Grand Princess. There was a faint soft look in his eyes. “It was written by Miss Mu for her grandfather’s blessings.”

The Grand Princess Yi De took a look at it, then looked at the high pile of Buddhist scriptures on the table, with a smile on her face: “Filial piety is rare. I think the words written on this Buddhist scripture are exceptionally likable. Take this scroll for me, Jun Yue. You can tell Mu Yunyao at a suitable time tomorrow.”

“Yes.”

After exiting the prayer hall, Grand Princess Yi De turned her head to look at Yue Wang. “Jun Yue, you’re not young anymore. There should be someone by your side to take care of you.”

“Imperial Aunt, I’m not in a hurry.”

“Previously, when you said that you were not in a hurry, I actually felt that it was believable. But now, you aren’t in a rush either?” As Grand Princess Yi De spoke, her eyes rested on the Buddhist scripture in Yue Wang’s hands, “That Mu Yunyao is actually quite an astute child. She doesn’t look too bad, but her background is rather low....”

Yue Wang’s body stiffened, and his expression became even more gentle: “I … I don’t care about her background.” Facing the Grand Princess Yi De, who had doted on him for so many years, Yue Wang did not want to hide his thoughts.

The Grand Princess Yi De laughed softly, “No wonder you had to put so much thought into it today. It’s just that you deliberately arranged for her to see me, but she doesn’t seem to appreciate it.”

When Yue Wang had previously said that she did not have a cape in Lingxi River, she noticed something unusual. She originally thought that Mu Yunyao would pass her cloak over to her out of flattery. But she did not expect that the other party would be completely unmoved and left very happy afterward.

When she saw the scriptures that she had copied in the prayer hall, coupled with the look of Yue Wang when he mentioned the other party, she immediately understood his intention.

“Although she is still young, she has a strong temper. She always has her own plans when she speaks and doing things. I originally wanted to make her feel a bit more at ease. But it seems that I have been overdoing it.” As Yue Wang said that, he did not sound dissatisfied at all. Instead, there was a little more admiration in his heart.

Nowadays, the Capital was in an uproar. Almost all the young ladies of the official families had squeezed their heads out, wanting to perform a little more in front of Imperial Aunt, but only Yunyao was out of the ordinary.

Seeing his expression, the smile on the Grand Princess Yi De’s face deepened. “You’re not planning to return to Western Guangdong this time, are you?”

“Yes, I want to stay in the Capital. Firstly, to take care of Yunyao, and secondly…secondly, I want to investigate the cause of my mother’s death that year.”

In the deep darkness of the night, the surrounding pilgrims had already returned to their respective rooms to rest.

The Grand Princess Yi De went to the stone bench beside the ginkgo trees and sat down. She sighed softly, “I know that one day you will come back to this place, and one day you will want to find out what happened in the past.”

Yue Wang stood in front of the Grand Princes Yede and helped her to block the night wind. “Imperial Aunt, regarding the cause of death of my mother, I must investigate it thoroughly.”

The Eldest Princess Yi De slightly lowered her eyes. Under the night sky, her face seemed somewhat blurry, and no one could clearly see the turbulent emotions that flashed through her eyes. “I already knew that this day would come....”

“Imperial Aunt, I’m sure you are aware of what happened that year. However, you have been secretly watching me for so many years, and yet you are unwilling to tell me the truth about what happened that year.”

“So many years have passed, is the truth still that important?”

“To others, it might not be important anymore, but for Mother and me, no matter how many years have passed, it’s just like a sore throat.” Yue Wang’s tone was firm, with a hint of coldness in his voice. “I do not believe that Mother will persecute my father’s heirs. If Mother really can’t tolerate others as the rumor says, she wouldn’t wait for the princes to grow up before taking action, and even then, choose to be pregnant with me....”

He had been born in the Cold Palace. Later, he had heard from Steward Qin and Eunuch Chen, who had taken care of him since he was young, that his mother had been sentenced to death shortly after giving birth to him. The reason was that his mother had worried that the princes who had already grown up would become a threat to her children. So when she was four months pregnant, she simply poisoned the ten grown-up Imperial Brothers to death, which was why she was so detested by his Imperial Father. Imperial Father didn’t even care that she was pregnant and directly locked her in the Cold Palace, waiting for the pregnancy to finish, and bestowed her the poisoned wine.

This matter had caused too much trouble at first and had even shaken the very foundations of the Imperial Court. The Imperial Court was filled with a miasma of smoke, and several large families had joined hands to pressure their Imperial Father, hoping to directly execute his mother. If it wasn’t for the Grand Princess Yi De’s intercession, he might not have been born. That’s why the current princes are relatively young.

The Grand Princess Yi De slightly opened her mouth, but then she swallowed down the words that were about to leave her mouth, “I know I can’t persuade you, but sometimes the truth is even crueler....if you find out about it, it might not be beneficial to you....”

“Imperial Aunt, I know that you won’t tell me, must be for my own good. But as a son, I can’t see my mother being wronged and not doing anything. Please understand me. I want to investigate!”

The Grand Princess Yi De slightly shook her head, “If you want to investigate, then go ahead and investigate it. According to your character, no matter what you find out in the end, you’ll be able to endure it. Come on. It’s getting late, go back and have a rest early. I will tell your Imperial Father not to send you back to Western Guangdong.”

“Thank you, Imperial Aunt.”

“Listen to my advice. Don’t get angry with your Imperial Father. He arranged for you to stay in Western Guangdong all these years, and he has his own reasons....”

“Imperial Aunt, there’s a gust of wind. I’ll send you back.”

The Grand Princess Yi De stopped talking and nodded her head helplessly. “Let’s go.”

Incurable Chapter 26 Part 2

Chapter 26 (2/2)

They went home first to collect the cats.

Used to the car by now, the three little ones and Zhouyi were all quite calm inside the carriers. Only Dàtóu, the chatterbox, kept meowing the whole way.

By the time they reached the South District, the roads had opened up, and the car quickly sped onto the coastal highway.

The line of the sea had been painted gold by the setting sun. The car window was cracked open just a little, and a gust of sea wind rushed in—salty, damp, and cool, driving away the summer heat.

No wonder everyone bought homes by the sea. The air was fresh, yes, but the evening view alone was worth it. The horizon swallowed half the sun, the rippling sea curled with golden light, and wave after wave folded over one another like night-blooming flowers opening all at once.

Mu Wan sat in the passenger seat, looking past Liu Qianxiu toward the sea.

The sunset was gold.

The side of his face was gold, too.

His smooth forehead, high brow bone, elegant nose bridge, straight nose, and the faint line of his lips.

From her angle, the outline of his profile looked like a beautiful paper-cut pasted onto a sky drenched in evening glow, almost holy in its unreachability.

“Do you want to stop and look?”

The sunset was particularly beautiful tonight. Liu Qianxiu had clearly noticed her gaze fixed on the window and asked lightly.

The moment he said it, Mu Wan was tempted.

Even if they stopped now, they would only catch the very last of the sun disappearing. If they dropped the cats off first and came back later, the sun would be long gone.

“Okay.” Mu Wan agreed with a smile.

Liu Qianxiu pulled the car into an open lot by the shoreline.

He was obviously not unfamiliar with the place. After parking, the two of them got out and walked toward the water.

Mu Wan was not exactly someone who adored the sea.

She had grown up in Xiacheng. Her mother had brought her to the coast when she was little, and school excursions had brought her here plenty of times, too.

But she had never seen the sea like this.

The slanting sun sank into the water. Waves rolled one after another, all burnished in red-gold light. The wind lifted the hem of her skirt. Barefoot on the beach, she let the tide rush up around her ankles—cool and gentle—and the sand slipped away between her toes.

Her mood that morning had not been good.

But after seeing Liu Qianxiu in the afternoon, it had only grown brighter and brighter.

He said she could go to Qingyuan Temple.

He handed her strawberry milk.

He had brought her here now to watch the sunset.

Anything he did for her could make flowers bloom in her heart.

He was the source of all her happiness.

The man walked ahead of her, tall and slender. The last light of sunset stretched out his shadow until it fell over her body.

Mu Wan looked at him like she was looking at a god she could long for but never truly reach.

They watched the horizon in silence. Neither of them had spoken since getting out of the car.

Only once the sun had disappeared completely and the air had turned cool did Liu Qianxiu stop, turn to her, and say, “Let’s go.”

“You’re in front of me.”

Mu Wan agreed, then stepped aside instead of moving forward. She took one step back into the water. The tide rolled up and swallowed her ankles. It felt wonderful.

Bathed in the afterglow, the woman looked as if she had been given a thick, warm filter. Her features were even more vivid than usual. Standing there so quietly, she looked up at him with a smile, and even with the sky behind her, her dark eyes still seemed to shine.

The sea breeze rose again, cool and tender.

Liu Qianxiu started forward, his feet pressing softly into the sand.

For a while, the only sound was the muted whisper of his steps.

Just as he slowed and seemed about to turn back, he heard the quick light sounds of a woman running up behind him.

Bare feet hitting the sand sounded strangely smooth.

“Liu Qianxiu!”

She caught up behind him, called his name, then poked him lightly in the back and said, “Don’t turn around.”

Liu Qianxiu stopped.

He did not turn.

His frame was lean, yet tall and broad enough that, standing behind him, Mu Wan could smell the faint clean trace of disinfectant on him even through the salty sea air.

“I have a secret.”

Mu Wan’s heart rose and fell with the waves.

“What is it?” the man asked.

Mu Wan smiled.

Looking at his back, she opened her red lips.

Her voice was so low the wind itself could not hear it.

She said it only with her lips, silently.

I’m secretly in love with you.

Liu Qianxiu turned around.
