By the time they arrived at Lin Wei’s home, the sky had already turned dark. November nights carried a slight chill. Mu Wan had put on a coat, and after ringing the bell, Lu Feng came to open the door.

Lu Feng did not look well either. Since Mu Wan still did not know what had happened, she only asked, “Where’s Lin Wei?”

After staying in Finland for a week, the two of them flew to Tasmania, Australia, in the second week. As November arrived, the Southern Hemisphere was gradually entering summer, and the weather was at its most pleasant. Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu stayed in a seaside villa on the island. In such weather, sunbathing felt especially wonderful. Almost every day, Mu Wan would go out and bask in the sun for a while. Being able to live anywhere she wanted, without any worries, was really an easy, comfortable life.

“Then what were you thinking about?” Before pulling his hand away, Liu Qianxiu tucked her hair behind her ear and gently pinched her earlobe.

The spot behind Mu Wan’s ear was very sensitive. When he pinched it, she let out a soft cry and pulled her neck back, her cheeks turning red. Her face warmed, and she tilted her head, rubbing against his hand like a small puppy.

“I was just thinking that I used to have no ambition,” Mu Wan said.

Starting the car again, Liu Qianxiu curved his lips faintly. “How so?”

Thinking back over her past, Mu Wan laughed too. Leaning slightly toward him, she said, “Ever since I graduated from high school and entered film school, my life goal has been just to become a minor actress. Take home film pay that was a little more than an ordinary salary, buy a house that felt comfortable to live in, buy a car that felt comfortable to drive, and then live the rest of my life in comfort.”

When she reached this point, she paused. Liu Qianxiu pressed his lips together slightly, eyes forward, and asked in a light voice, “And now? Is it uncomfortable?”

“Of course it’s comfortable!” Mu Wan said with a sigh. “We have a private plane when we travel, so we can go anywhere. Even in Xia City, we have houses in every district—east, west, south, and north—and staff takes care of them all. We can live wherever we want.”

Just as she was happily petting them, a phone rang in the living room. Mu Wan got up from the cat room and went to get her phone. The screen flashed with the name Lin Wei.

After coming back, Mu Wan and Liu Qianxiu went straight to pick up the cats and hadn’t told Lin Wei yet. Her schedule for the next few months was light, and Liu Qianxiu could also take another two weeks off. They had actually come back early to make it in time for Lin Wei’s wedding.

Lin Wei’s wedding was set for early November—next Monday, in fact. That meant there were only four days left, and it should have been the busiest time.

“What happened?”

“I need to go check on Lin Wei,” Mu Wan said, turning to him.

Worry filled her eyes. Liu Qianxiu didn’t ask any more questions. He just said, “I’ll drive you there.”

The day started off sweetly. Mu Wan hugged his waist from behind as Liu Qianxiu walked ahead. She rubbed her cheek against his back, softly whispering sweet nothings to him. His dark eyes, full of tenderness, caught the snowy light as he walked.

The villa’s kitchen looked a lot like the one in Liu Qianxiu’s Southwind apartment. It had an island in the center and a dining table. Mu Wan sat on a high stool, facing the window with the red heart.

She ate her food and laughed when she saw the heart. Liu Qianxiu handed her freshly warm glass of milk. Mu Wan took it and drank most of it with a smile. When she finished, she turned to him and asked, “Shall we go into town later?”

Since they were traveling, staying inside the villa didn’t sound fun. After seeing the snow, it seemed like a good idea to walk around town and experience the local culture.

“Sure,” Liu Qianxiu agreed.

The manager of Liu Qianxiu’s Finnish branch was quite considerate. While Liu Qianxiu and Mu Wan enjoyed their private time in the villa, he arranged for the driver and housekeeper to stay in the nearby town, just in case they were needed.

He didn’t understand her words right away, but when he looked at her, he could sense the meaning. He smiled faintly and reached out to pat her head. She let out a small “ah” as she smiled.

As she smiled, she felt a tug on her sleeve. Mu Wan looked down and saw a little boy, about three or four years old.

The little boy was white, with fair skin, round cheeks, long black lashes, and a pair of blue eyes like the starry sky.

It was the first time Mu Wan had seen such a beautiful little boy.

When she looked at him, the boy seemed to realize he had mistaken her for someone else. His parents hurried over and called his name.

Mu Wan didn’t understand Finnish, but the boy’s parents apologized for bothering her. She waved it off, and Liu Qianxiu translated as the parents apologized again before leaving.

“What’s his name?” Mu Wan asked, the boy’s name still echoing in her mind.

Liu Qianxiu repeated it. Mu Wan tried to say it, but couldn’t keep up. She gave up and asked, “What’s it called in Chinese?”

“Star Light,” Liu Qianxiu said. “In the north part of town, you can see auroras, and even when there aren’t any, the starlight is beautiful.”

“Is it because the starlight is so beautiful here that they named him that?” Mu Wan said, looking back at the little boy, the memory of his beautiful blue eyes lingered in her mind.

“Yes,” Liu Qianxiu answered.

“When we name our children, I want the name to have Chinese cultural meaning,” Mu Wan said suddenly, looking at Liu Qianxiu with hope. “You read a lot, so you should name our child.”

After she spoke, Mu Wan frowned. She realized she might be asking too much and hadn’t really thought it through.

“Let’s think about it when we’re home. Or else…”

“‘Lai Zhi,’” Liu Qianxiu said.

He interrupted her. She looked at him, her eyelashes fluttering. “That’s a boy’s name, isn’t it? What if it’s a girl?”

Snow had fallen all night, quiet and gentle. After a long trip and a joyful evening, Mu Wan woke up feeling groggy. She curled up under the soft down blanket and opened her eyes to a world covered in white.

Liu Qianxiu was already awake. The bedroom was spacious, with a fireplace burning brightly. European-style sofas and a coffee table sat nearby, and a patterned carpet covered the floor.

He wasn’t on the sofa. Instead, he sat by the floor-to-ceiling windows, where the carpet stretched out beneath a low table and two cushions. Wearing a green robe, Liu Qianxiu meditated in the morning light.

Outside, thick snow blanketed the mountains and forests, with bits of green showing through. He sat quietly, eyes half-closed and brows relaxed, like a peaceful painting.

Liu Qianxiu sat below her line of sight. Mu Wan shifted under the white down blanket to see him better. As she moved, his long lashes fluttered, and he opened his clear, dark eyes, glancing at the bed. Their eyes met, and he smiled.

“You’re awake?” Liu Qianxiu uncrossed his legs and stood up. He was tall and straight, rising with an easy, graceful posture.

“Mm.” Mu Wan watched him come closer, lying back and looking up at him. “The snow is really coming down.”

Liu Qianxiu got onto the bed and, with the blanket between them, pulled her into his arms and kissed her hair. They pressed close together, watching the snow outside.

The room was filled with the scent of incense, but it was nowhere near as pleasant as Liu Qianxiu’s scent. He carried the fresh fragrance of masculinity, mixed with sandalwood, evoking both desire and coldness.

They had nothing urgent to do. Since they woke up early and weren’t hungry, they stayed in bed watching the snow. Liu Qianxiu enjoyed the quiet, but Mu Wan grew restless. She turned her head, and when he looked at her, she gave him a quick kiss before turning away.

She couldn’t help but giggle for a moment, but when Liu Qianxiu realized what had happened, he held her shoulders, not letting her turn away. Instead, he slightly tilted his head, his breath close to her ear. Mu Wan’s heart skipped a beat when he nipped at her earlobe.

The action was neither too hard nor too soft, his teeth grazing her sensitive skin, sending a tingle through her. She let out a small gasp and quickly tried to escape. But before she could move far, her body was held in place by him, and she laughed out loud. Liu Qianxiu kissed the back of her neck.

His warm lips pressed softly against her, and Mu Wan’s eyes shifted as a soft moan escaped her.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

Liu Qianxiu turned her to face him, their eyes meeting. His clear eyes softened as he spoke softly, “You were the one who provoked me first.”

Mu Wan caught the playful accusation and smiled. She turned to look at him. Liu Qianxiu was so handsome, she couldn’t help wanting to tease him.

“I was just teasing you. Is that not allowed?”

He listened quietly to her unreasonable explanation. Before she could finish speaking, he cupped her face with both hands and kissed her lips gently. The soft kiss made the remaining words of hers turn into whispers.

His dark eyes became unfocused for a moment, and Mu Wan couldn’t resist his sudden approach. Each time he did this, it felt like she was a torch drenched in honey and then set ablaze by him.

She laughed, burying her face in his chest, murmuring, “Liu Qianxiu, I’m hungry.”

They got up. Liu Qianxiu went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, and Mu Wan, feeling a little bored after inspecting the villa, put on a down jacket and scarf and stepped outside.

The snow had stopped, and the sun had even come out. The brilliant white snow reflected the sunlight, illuminating everything.

Mu Wan stepped off the stairs, her snow boots sinking into the thick snow, which covered her heels. The snow was about four or five centimeters deep—just the right amount to step on comfortably.

The front of the villa had no traces of anyone else, so the snow was perfectly smooth. Mu Wan put her hands behind her back and left a trail of footprints as she moved like a little penguin.

She walked all the way around the villa, as if drawing a circle around it. After completing the circle, she felt warm and walked up to the kitchen window, and saw Liu Qianxiu flipping eggs inside.

He wore a dark blue sweater, his tall, long-limbed figure as he calmly turned the eggs over. Mu Wan stood by the window, tapping the glass. He looked up, and as soon as he saw her, his dark eyes were filled with warmth.

Mu Wan smiled at him, seeing her reflection in the glass. She paused, then took off her scarf, showing her red nose and lips.

She put her hands on the glass and blew on the window. When the white mist appeared, she quickly drew a heart with her finger.

It was a game she used to play with her mother as a child. Every time it snowed in winter, before going to school, she would knock on the window and leave her mother a heart.

Dressed in a dark down jacket, her black, fine curls hidden beneath a knit hat, her lips were red, and her nose slightly pink. She leaned against the glass like a little hamster, smiling from the heart.

But soon, the cold cleared the mist from the glass, and the heart faded. Mu Wan frowned and quickly blew on the glass again. After drawing another heart, she looked inside, but Liu Qianxiu was gone.

“Eh?” Mu Wan was surprised and leaned closer, looking for him in the glass. Before she could spot him, she heard the door open behind her. Liu Qianxiu came outside.

He held a small bucket and a paintbrush, and Mu Wan wondered what he was carrying. She tilted her head at him. Before she could say anything, Liu Qianxiu set the items on the table and gently pulled her scarf back over her face.

“Cold?” he asked. Mu Wan’s face was red from the cold after she had blown on the glass.

The scarf wrapped around her cheeks, and Mu Wan’s warm breath soon heated her face. She blinked and noticed the frost on her long lashes. She shook her head, pointing at the glass. “I drew you a heart, but it disappeared.”

Liu Qianxiu looked in the direction she was pointing. On the clean glass, the heart had faded into faint marks. He lowered his gaze and squatted down, opening the small bucket in his hand.

Mu Wan’s gaze was blocked as she crouched down with him. The bucket opened, and inside was red paint. She watched as Liu Qianxiu dipped the brush into the paint, and then he began to trace the faint heart on the glass.

He recreated the heart with red paint, his brush gently sweeping across the surface, and Mu Wan’s reflection was once again enclosed in the red heart on the glass.

She smiled at the red heart and looked back at Liu Qianxiu. He set the brush aside, picked up the bucket, took her hand, and walked toward the room. “It won’t disappear now.”

The instant the name fell, a wave of murmurs surged through the hall.
