~ PROVOKE THE SU FAMILY AGAIN ~
After more than ten days of bustling, a caravan departed from Jingling City under the guise of transporting tea leaves, heading westward towards Yuxi City, the closest city to Western Guangdong.
Steward Qin had finished his business with ginger tea and was once again focusing on Bu Xian Luo. The signboard, made by copying the Emperor’s calligraphy, was finally sent over after being meticulously carved by over a dozen craftsmen. To show her respect, Mu Yunyao discussed with him and specially selected a good day. She also invited Cao Yunnian and the rest to put out the 1000 echo firecrackers. After it fired, Bu Xian Luo’s signboard was hanging up solemnly! Such a great scene naturally attracted more than half of the people from Jingling City to come to watch. Mu Yunyao announced that she would spend the next half a month’s profits from Bu Xian Luo to buy grain and give it to the lonely, elderly, and children born with a difficult family background to express her gratitude to the Emperor. This expression naturally drew a voice of praise.
During this time, the head of the Ci You Bureau came to see Cai Qing and wanted to bring her back. However, after hearing that she had signed a contract, he cursed her for being heartless and left bitterly.
Cai Qing knew that Mu Yunyao was disgusted with her previous actions, so she didn’t intentionally approach her. Instead, after cleaning up the residence, she focused on learning the embroidery needle technique under Lady Ding. Her talent wasn’t bad. She had even grasped half of it before, and it’s still pretty good. Nan’er’s injuries were already sufficient to get out of bed. Every day, he would follow behind Mu Yunyao, hoping to help her a little. However, seeing that he was coughing at every turn, Jin Lan was so shocked that she hurriedly sent him back to his room. There were so many times a day. After three or four days, Jin Lan couldn’t take it and complained to Mu Yunyao.
After Mu Yunyao called Nan’er over to give him a careful warning, she finally made him give up on the thought of helping her. He could only concentrate on recuperating his body and wait for his body to recover before repaying her properly.
After the Double Ninth Festival was over, the weather had clearly turned cold. When Mu Yunyao had changed into some clothes and was preparing to leave, Su Qing chased after her and made her put on an emerald embroidered cloak.
The light of the emerald embroidered cloak made Mu Yunyao’s face turn even paler. Her face was tender tofu, causing Su Qing to reach and touch her cheek. “Hurry up and greet Lady Jin on my behalf. You must be careful on the way.”
Mu Yunyao intimately rubbed her hands against Su Qing’s and smiled with her eyes curved, “Yes. Please don’t worry, Mother. I will be back soon.”
This morning, Lady Jin had sent someone to invite her. Mu Yunyao didn’t dare to delay when she saw the maid’s anxious expression. After changing her clothes, she took a carriage to the Cao family’s residence.
Yin Hong was anxiously waiting at the door. Seeing Mu Yunyao come down, she hurriedly went up to pay her respects, “Greetings, Miss Mu. You’re finally here. Madam is waiting for you inside!”
Seeing Yin Hong’s face turn ugly, Mu Yunyao was shocked. She quickly followed her to the backyard.
Lady Jin was lying on the bed with a pale face in the room while Cao Yunnian watched anxiously from the side.
As soon as she entered the room, she smelled medicine. Mu Yunyao could not help but furrow her brows, but upon seeing Cao Yunnian, she immediately knelt down. “Greetings, Lord Cao.”
“Miss Mu, please don’t be polite. Please help me to take a look at Madam.”
Mu Yunyao didn’t care about being polite and hurriedly went up to take Lady Jin’s pulse.
Maybe because Lady Jin heard Mu Yunyao’s voice, she opened her eyes and firmly held her hand. “Yunyao, what’s the matter with the child in my womb? You have to help me protect him. I don’t care what happens to me, but I don’t want anything wrong with him!”
Mu Yunyao’s heart stirred, and she hurriedly held Lady Jin’s hand tightly. “Madam, don’t worry. I’ll do my best. Please don’t be agitated at this moment, or else....”
Lady Jin turned her head slightly, and tears began to flow from the corners of her eyes. Cao Yunnian was pacing back and forth at the side. When he saw her expression, his expression became more anxious. “Oh, Madam, don’t be sad. I will definitely give you an explanation.”
Just as Cao Yunnian finished speaking, Yin Hong walked in. “Reporting to Old Master and Madam, Concubine Wang is kneeling at the entrance to the courtyard.”
Lady Jin’s face turned cold as she told Cao Yunnian, “I look haggard today, so it’s not convenient for me to see her. You should leave first.”
The anxiety on Cao Yunnian’s face deepened, but Mu Yunyao’s presence made it inconvenient for him to say anything. He hesitated momentarily before slowly saying, “Then Madam must rest well. I’ll come to see you later.” After Cao Yunnian left, Yin Hong went out to take a look and returned to report to Lady Jin, “Madam, Concubine Wang is still kneeling at the courtyard entrance. When Master left just now, she seemed to have said something that made Old Master kick her.” Seeing that Lady Jin had slightly nodded to indicate that she had heard her words, Yin Hong withdrew herself from the room and stood guard at the door. When there were no outsiders, Mu Yunyao, who had her head lowered, finally opened her mouth and asked, “Madam, why must you go through all this trouble?” Just now, when she had helped to feel Lady Jin’s pulse, she discovered that Lady Jin’s pulsation was so steady that nothing had happened. However, her face was pale, and she forcefully shook her hand, hinting that she had followed her instructions. Lady Jin sat up, took up the silk pad, and wiped away the tears: “Yunyao, I’m really sorry for dragging you into this mess. For the past two days, there have been people who have been unhappy with me. They also always talked about me before Lord Cao, which has caused enmity in his heart. If I don’t get rid of this feud, sooner or later, it will form into a knot in his heart, and I won’t be able to open it again.”
“As long as Madam is fine, it’s good enough. You can call me over like this because you don’t treat me as an outsider. Why would I mind?” Mu Yunyao thought for a moment and was able to guess a few things. There was a rumor that Cao Yunnian had made it to the top so quickly, mostly because of the help from Lady Jin’s family. Later, Lady Jin’s clothes attracted colorful butterflies, causing the Emperor to promote Cao Yunnian to the next rank. Later on, because of the spread of the embroidery needle technique, Lady Jin gave her a mandate, and it said outside that Cao Yunnian’s most excellent fortune was to marry a good wife.
“At this time, if someone intentionally made a scene or two, they would likely lead him astray. By the way, there is another thing I need to call you about today. I had told Lord Cao about the gift for the New Year. After hearing the news, Governor Zhang was also very moved, so he thought of finding a few blessed elders from all over the place to write down the good fortune and bring it to Jingling City to assemble the embroidery. I don’t need to collect the handwriting because Governor Zhang will send someone for it. It’s just that the final embroidery is about to be bigger. Do you think that the final embroidery item will be complete?”
Mu Yunyao thought momentarily before replying, “Because the time is relatively short, if the embroidery is made larger, it will take a lot of time. However, since Governor Zhang has spoken, even if I have to work day and night, I still have to try my best to finish it. The embroidery will grow nine feet long and five feet wide, which is in line with the supreme meaning of the ninth five-year plan. What do you think, Madam?”
Lady Jin looked apologetically at Mu Yunyao. “Of course, it’s best this way, but it’ll be hard on you.”
Mu Yunyao smiled, “To receive the Emperor’s bestowment, I feel extremely grateful. No matter how difficult it is, I will gladly endure it.”
Moreover, the New Year gift she helped embroider not only wanted to show her face in front of the Emperor. But more importantly, she wanted to use this opportunity to provoke the Su family.
Back then, on the day of the Emperor’s birthday, the screen embroidery presented by the Su family not only did not help the Su family gain any glory. It also caused the Emperor to be furious because the meaning of the bloodstained mountains and rivers was ominous. It also humiliated the Su family.
It was likely that the one that the Su family was most unwilling to see was the embroidery, and she wanted to send another set of embroidery. If the Emperor praised this embroidery, it would make them feel their throats were stuck. Taking a step back, even if this piece of embroidery didn’t receive the Emperor’s praise, it would still be able to remind the Emperor of the matter of the Su family sending the screen over to the Emperor. As long as it could make the Su Family unhappy, she was willing to be busy for a few months.

Thanks for the chapter!
ReplyDeleteSo, it is not only our FL who is scheming... Lady Jin can scheme as well. Although it seems kind of distasteful when presented like this and not as a life-or-death struggle (like in other novels), it's merely the only way for her to protect herself...
Anyway, thanks for the chapters, and stay safe!
Yeah, not to mention someone already tried to make her miscarry the baby. It wasn't explained any further, but remember Yunyao noticed her room had unclean things and those pots of flowers were the cause she was feeling so sick on the first months. It could be Lady Jing's maiden family or it could be anyone else (a concubine working for a different enemy?).
DeleteThanks for the chapter! So it is not only our FL who can scheme... Lady Jin can too!
