The Wedding Ahead
The moment they entered the bedroom, Mu Wan rolled across the mattress and straight into Liu Qianxiu's arms.
He caught her.
They had both just showered, so their skin still felt cool and faintly damp.
Mu Wan liked the sensation and burrowed deeper into his embrace.
Her breath brushed lightly across his body.
She was doing it deliberately.
Naturally, Liu Qianxiu knew.
Her arms circled his waist.
Her body was cool, but her palms were warm, like a flame traveling across his body and straight into his heart.
He did not press her beneath him.
Instead, he simply gathered her closer.
Mu Wan was lifted into his arms.
She giggled and settled against his chest.
Her laughter was soon swallowed by his lips.
At first, his kisses were light, touching her again and again like dragonflies skimming across water.
Gradually, they became deeper and more lingering.
Their breathing slowly quickened.
Mu Wan was lowered beneath him.
Her dark eyes looked like black gemstones submerged in water, glistening brightly.
Her thoughts had begun to blur, yet she could still see Liu Qianxiu's expression clearly.
He remained outwardly calm as still water.
But beneath those dark eyes stirred the familiar desire she knew so well.
Mu Wan reached up and touched his cheek.
He caught one of her fingers between his lips and kissed it.
A soft sound escaped her.
She laughed, her eyes curving.
“I'm a bad student.”
Her voice was hoarse.
His kisses against her fingertip made it feel both warm and ticklish.
“How so?”
Liu Qianxiu lowered his head and kissed her lips, his voice equally rough.
“You were supposed to cultivate in solitude.”
Mu Wan wrapped her arms around his neck.
Breathing in the faint sandalwood fragrance surrounding him, she returned his kiss.
“But then this bad student came along and tempted you.”
Liu Qianxiu laughed softly.
The sound was low and husky, as though rising from the depths of the sea, carrying something primitive and seductive that made her sink further into him.
“Dual cultivation is cultivation too.”
Mu Wan laughed.
Then she suddenly remembered something.
She caught his hand and asked quietly,
“Shouldn't we be a little more restrained during the early stages of pregnancy?”
Liu Qianxiu turned his hand and enclosed her fingers in his.
He lowered his gaze toward her.
His voice remained calm.
“I'm a doctor. I'll protect the baby.”
His dark eyes deepened.
Then he kissed her again, moving from the corner of her lips to her cheek and finally toward her ear.
His breathing was close.
The air around her ear grew warm and damp.
Then she heard his deep voice.
“And I'm also a man.”
“I know how to make you more comfortable.”
Mu Wan let out a soft sound and lost herself in their cultivation.
By the time they finished, Mu Wan was so exhausted she could barely move her fingers.
Liu Qianxiu lifted her.
Her body still seemed to react to every touch.
He washed her first, then went to shower himself.
When he returned to the bedroom, Mu Wan was lying on her stomach, lazily waving his vibrating phone.
“Mei Yaozhi is calling you.”
Liu Qianxiu lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
He took the phone, then gathered her back into his arms.
Their bodies rested together as Mei Yaozhi's voice sounded clearly through the dark bedroom.
“Did you ask Mu Wan yet? What kind of style does she want for the engagement banquet?”
The sleepy woman in Liu Qianxiu's arms moved slightly.
She raised her head.
Her bare face looked soft and clean, and her dark eyes stared up at him.
Liu Qianxiu had begun preparing the engagement banquet immediately after Mu Wan accepted his proposal.
Mei Yaozhi knew people who specialized in such arrangements, so he had been helping.
He had called that afternoon, but after dinner, Liu Qianxiu and Mu Wan had been occupied and never got around to discussing it.
“Do you want to talk to him yourself?” Liu Qianxiu asked quietly.
Since she had already accepted his proposal, an engagement and wedding would naturally follow.
If Liu Qianxiu had started preparing, she would cooperate fully.
There was nothing to be shy or difficult about.
Mu Wan nodded.
She took the phone.
“Yaozhi.”
The moment Mei Yaozhi heard Mu Wan's voice, he began asking the person directly involved.
Unfortunately, Mu Wan had never been engaged before either.
She had no idea what kinds of engagement banquet styles existed.
So she simply answered his questions one at a time.
What colors did she like?
What atmosphere?
What overall style?
After several rounds of questions, Mei Yaozhi finally said,
“I have a general idea now, but there are still a lot of details and different variations.”
“You and Qianxiu should come to the Mei residence for dinner tomorrow. We'll decide the rest then.”
“All right.”
Mu Wan agreed and ended the call.
Whether because of the phone call or because the engagement banquet had suddenly made everything feel more real, she was no longer sleepy.
Liu Qianxiu took the phone from her, set it aside, and held her again.
Marriage had always felt abstract to Mu Wan.
But now that she was actually experiencing it, everything was gradually becoming real.
To say she felt nothing would have been a lie.
She was incredibly happy.
“When did you start preparing all this?” Mu Wan asked as she hugged Liu Qianxiu.
“After the proposal succeeded.”
“You waited until after I said yes?”
Mu Wan laughed.
“Were you afraid I'd refuse?”
In the darkness, the outlines of their faces were indistinct.
Yet Liu Qianxiu could still find her lips perfectly.
He lowered his head and kissed her.
“I wasn't afraid.”
“But before you agreed, I needed to respect whatever answer you gave me.”
There it was again.
He always handled everything so carefully that she could find nothing to complain about.
Mu Wan hugged him tighter.
She rubbed her cheek against his chest.
“What about the wedding?”
Liu Qianxiu's fingers moved gently through her hair.
“I only have a preliminary idea.”
“On the wedding day, you'll leave from the Mei residence.”
“You'll be married from the same room my mother left from when she married.”
Mu Wan had no parents.
No close family.
Almost no relatives she could rely on.
So he had given her a powerful family to stand behind her.
A place from which she could walk into marriage with dignity and confidence.
Sweetness seemed to bubble from the deepest part of Mu Wan's heart.
She tightened her arms around Liu Qianxiu and hummed softly against him.
“Liu Qianxiu, I love you so much~”
Hearing the spoiled sweetness in her voice, Liu Qianxiu's expression gradually softened.
“Mm.”
Then he whispered beside her ear,
“I love you too.”
After they got together, their lives had become simple and peaceful.
Yet romance had never disappeared.
Hearing his confession made Mu Wan's heart itch with happiness.
She wanted to roll around in his arms.
Liu Qianxiu simply held her and indulged her.
He listened to her laughter gradually fade into slow, even breathing.
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
“Come somewhere with me tomorrow morning.”
“And in the afternoon, you can come to the hospital with me for your prenatal examination.”
“What place?”
Her voice was barely audible, as though she were asking the question from inside a dream.
Liu Qianxiu lowered his eyes.
Before he could answer, he realized that Mu Wan had already fallen asleep.
He pulled her closer into his arms.
Then he said nothing more.
