September nights remained muggy and humid. By the time Mu
Wan returned home from the community gate, a thin sheen of sweat had already
formed on her skin. Upon arriving, she stripped off her clothes and stepped
into the bathroom. After her shower, Liu Qianxiu gathered his things and
followed suit.
Her clothes were at Liu Qianxiu’s place, and his were at
hers. With no suitable spot for reading in her home after bathing, the two
headed to the bedroom early.
Once inside, Mu Wan rolled over and landed in Liu Qianxiu’s
arms. He embraced her; both were cool and damp from their showers. She loved
that sensation and nestled deeper into his embrace, her breath faintly tickling
his skin.
She was doing it on purpose, and Liu Qianxiu could feel it.
Her hands wrapped around his waist, her body slightly cool, yet her palms were
scorching hot, like a fire that burned through his body straight to his heart.
Instead of pinning her down, he lifted her into his arms. Mu
Wan giggled softly as she was hoisted up, then nestled her face into Liu
Qianxiu’s chest. Her laughter was quickly silenced by his lips, kissing her
gently at first, like a dragonfly skimming the water, teasing and tantalizing.
Gradually, the kiss deepened, becoming long and intense.
As their breathing grew increasingly rapid, Mu Wan found
herself positioned beneath him. Her jet-black eyes shone like water-soaked
obsidian, glistening with a luminous sheen. Though her consciousness was hazy,
she could still clearly discern the man’s expression.
He remained as still as water, yet beneath those ink-dark
eyes surged the familiar tide of desire she knew so well. Mu Wan reached up to
touch his cheek. He took her finger into his mouth and kissed it. She let out a
soft moan, smiling, her eyes crinkling at the corners.
“I’m a bad student,” Mu Wan murmured hoarsely. His kisses on
her fingertips felt both ticklish and hot.
“How so?” Liu Qianxiu lowered his head to kiss her lips, his
voice husky.
“You were supposed to be in seclusion,” Mu Wan murmured, her
arms wrapped around his neck as she breathed in the faint sandalwood scent on
his skin, returning his kiss. “But this bad student of yours came along and
tempted you.”
The man chuckled softly, his voice low and husky, as if
carried from the depths of the ocean. It had the most primal desire and
allure, intoxicating her.
“Dual cultivation is also a form of practice,” he said.
Mu Wan smiled, but then something occurred to her. She
grasped his hand and asked softly, “Shouldn’t we... exercise some restraint
during the early stages of pregnancy?”
Releasing his grip on her fingers, Liu Qianxiu lowered his
gaze to her, his voice calm. “I’m a doctor. I’ll protect it.”
His eyes darkened. After speaking, he kissed her softly,
starting from her lips, moving to her cheek, and finally drifting down to her
ear. Her ear was filled with his breath and the damp air. She heard him murmur
deeply.
“I’m a man, and I know how to make you feel better.”
Mu Wan murmured softly, lost in the sensation.
By the time it ended, Mu Wan was too exhausted to move a
finger. Held in Liu Qianxiu’s arms, her body still responded to his touch.
After washing her, he went to shower himself. Returning to the bed, he found
the woman lying face down, idly waving his vibrating phone with a languid
voice.
“Mei Yaozhi is looking for you.”
Lowering his head, he kissed her forehead before taking the
phone and pulling her into his embrace. Their bodies pressed together as Mei
Yaozhi’s voice echoed clearly through the pitch-black bedroom.
“Have you asked Mu Wan yet? What style of engagement banquet
decor does she prefer?”
Hearing his question, the drowsy woman in his arms stirred,
lifting her head. Her simple, delicate face framed dark, luminous eyes that
gazed up at him.
Liu Qianxiu had already begun preparing for the engagement
banquet after proposing to her. Mei Yaozhi knew friends in the industry, so she
had taken the lead in handling the arrangements. She had called him earlier
that afternoon, but after dinner, they had been busy and hadn’t gotten around
to asking her.
“Did you talk to him yourself?” Liu Qianxiu asked Mu Wan
softly.
Since she had accepted his proposal, the engagement and
wedding were inevitable. Now that Liu Qianxiu had begun preparations, she
needed to cooperate fully—there was no need for shyness or affectation.
She nodded, took the phone, and called out, “Yaozhi.”
Upon hearing Mu Wan’s voice, Mei Yaozhi addressed the matter
directly with the person involved. As for Mu Wan herself, she had never been
engaged before and knew little about the styles of engagement banquets.
She answered a few simple questions as Mei Yaozhi asked,
such as preferred color schemes and styles. After exchanging a few questions,
Mei Yaozhi concluded, “I have a general idea of the style now, but there are
many subcategories within it. You and Qianxiu should come to the Mei residence
for dinner tomorrow. We’ll finalize the details then.”
“Alright,” Mu Wan replied, ending the call with Mei Yaozhi.
Whether it was the phone call or the news of the engagement
banquet, Mu Wan found sleep elusive. Liu Qianxiu took the phone and set it down
before wrapping his arms around her.
Marriage had always felt abstract to Mu Wan. But now that
she was immersed in it, a tangible sense of reality was dawning. To say she
felt nothing would be a lie. She was pleased.
“When did you start preparing all this?” Mu Wan asked,
clinging to Liu Qianxiu.
“After the proposal is successful,” the man replied.
“You’re only preparing after it’s successful?” Mu Wan
laughed and asked him, “Aren’t you afraid it might fail?”
In the darkness, both their features were slightly blurred,
yet he could precisely sense where her lips were. He lowered his head to kiss
her and said, “I’m not afraid. But before you say yes, I should give you an
answer with respect.”
See, he always did things so flawlessly that there was no
room for complaint.
Mu Wan hugged him tightly, rubbing against his chest as she
asked, “What about the wedding?”
His fingers gently combed through her hair as Liu Qianxiu
replied, “Just a preliminary plan. On your wedding day, you’ll depart from the
Mei residence and leave through the very room my mother once used for her own
wedding.
She had no parents and no relatives to turn to. He had
secured her a robust backing, giving her the confidence to walk down the
aisle.
Mu Wan felt honey-sweet warmth surge through her heart.
Clinging to Liu Qianxiu, she murmured softly, “Liu Qianxiu, I love you so
much~.”
Feeling her affectionate cling, Liu Qianxiu’s expression
softened. He murmured a soft “Mm-hmm” and whispered in her ear, “I love you
too.”
After they were together, their life settled into a quiet
rhythm, yet never lacked romance. Hearing his confession, Mu Wan’s heart
fluttered with excitement, making her want to roll around in his arms.
He held her close, cherishing her, cradling her in his arms
as he listened to her laughter and her breath, growing steadily longer and deeper. A smile slowly spread across his lips.
“Come with me somewhere tomorrow morning. Then in the
afternoon, you can come with me to the hospital for your prenatal checkup.”
“Where?” Her voice was barely audible, as if spoken in a
dream.
